Cetacean Evolution Part II: Cetartiodactyla
Part 2 of a series on cetacean evolutionary history. Thank you and welcome to all new subscribers! I hope you enjoy this series and the rest of my channel! Quick note: I would just like to make it clear that the focus of this series is mostly on whale origins and archaeocetes, or ancient whales, and is less focused on the evolution of the modern, extant families. This is for a couple of reasons: a) the evolution of cetaceans from their non-cetacean ancestors is much more interesting than their later diversification, imo :-) and b) the diversification of modern cetacean families is currently less well-understood/resolved.

Cetacean Evolution Part III: Archaeocetes
Part 3 of a series on cetacean evolution. Please watch parts 1 and 2 if you haven't - I use terminology in this video some of you may be unfamiliar with, but that I define in the first two parts. Lots of information packed into this one, but don't worry - I'll have a list of all the references on the next/last video.

Cetacean Evolution Part I: Systematics Intro
My, I never thought I'd have to jump through so many hoops to get a narrated powerpoint presentation converted into video :-P Part I of a series on cetacean evolutionary history. I start with a basic introduction to systematics because the rest of the series very much depends on understanding the concepts I present here. Some of you that know this stuff already will probably find it tedious, but at the least I hope it'll be a good refresher.

Mammals
Check us out at www.tutorvista.com Mammals (formally Mammalia) are a class of vertebrate, air-breathing animals whose females are characterized by the possession of mammary glands while both males and females are characterized by sweat glands, hair and/or fur, three middle ear bones used in hearing, and a neocortex region in the brain. Mammals are divided into three main infraclass taxa depending how they are born. These taxa are: monotremes, marsupials and placentals. Except for the five species of monotremes (which lay eggs), all mammal species give birth to live young. Most mammals also possess specialized teeth, and the largest group of mammals, the placentals, use a placenta during gestation. The mammalian brain regulates endothermic and circulatory systems, including a four-chambered heart. There are approximately 5400 species of mammals, distributed in about 1200 genera, 153 families, and 29 orders(though this varies by classification scheme). Mammals range in size from the 3040 millimeter (1- to 1.5-inch) Bumblebee Bat to the 33-meter (108-foot) Blue Whale. Mammals are divided into two subclasses: the Prototheria, which includes the oviparous monotremes, and the Theria, which includes the placentals and live-bearing marsupials. Most mammals, including the six largest orders, belong to the placental group. The three largest orders, in descending order, are Rodentia (mice, rats, porcupines, beavers, capybaras, and other gnawing mammals), Chiroptera (bats), and ...

Flusspferd - Nilpferd - Hippopotamus - Usnii uher
