Born in February 1986, Jonathan Paula is a professional YouTuber and creator of the hit web series, "Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This?". In April 2006 he founded Jogwheel Productions, a new media production company that specializes in web video. He has been reviewing films since 2003, and professionally since 2009. Jon graduated from Emerson College in 2008 with a degree in Television Production / Radio Broadcasting. He currently lives in Rockingham, NH with his wife Rebecca.

~~ Review Script ~~
The first in a series of five very successful films whose total cross is 1.8 billion dollars, this 2000 action superhero film is based off of the Marvel comic series of the same name. Bryan Singer directs this rushed 104-minute movie that focuses on the secret life of gifted-"mutants" in America, who hide and live together in a secluded academy, where they affectionately refer to each other as "X-men". This prejudice-based narrative is largely analogous to the American Civil Rights movement, shining a slightly more serious tone to X-Men's otherwise lively story. Lacking a true origin story, or a relatable lead character, this sporadically overwhelming motion picture feels more like an average middle-chapter of a larger story. The mammoth cast stars Hugh Jackman, who despite receiving the slight majority of screen-time, is hardly the film's sole protagonist, as that title is shared amongst Patrick Stetwart, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, and Anna Paquin -- all of whom do their best to stand-out in their limited roles. Ian McKellen and Rebecca Romin-Stamos are featured as the eccentric villains, who despite being mutants themselves, disagree with their more friendly counterparts. Inherently, the entertainment from comic-book adaptations comes from watching your favorite characters unleash their super-powers on the big screen, with the advent of great special effects and exciting action sequences. Luckily, "X-men" delivers on these points in spades... resulting in a truly entertaining film that comic book fans will surely enjoy. Culminating in an absurd battle set atop the Statue Of Liberty that is as enjoyable as it is preposterous. For non-fans however, this movie is a confusing mess: spending far too much time developing each member of the supporting cast, rather than advancing the plot. What you're left with is a fast-paced and flashy action film that is more concerned with a checklist, rather than creating a genuinely dramatic story. Luckily for the franchise, once this pesky backstory was established, the next four films in the series got progressively better. X-Men is an "Detrimentally ambitious adaptation, but exciting".

Von der US-Regierung wird gerade an einem Gesetzentwurf gefeilt, Mutanten mit besonderen Fähigkeiten meldepflichtig zu machen, da sie eine Gefahr für die Gesellschaft darstellen. Vor allem einem Mutanten bereitet das große Kopfschmerzen: Magneto (Ian McKellen). Er will einen Krieg gegen den Rest der Menschheit führen, im Glauben, die Mutanten müssten die Weltherrschaft übernehmen.
Professor X (Patrick Stewart), der eine Schule für junge Mutanten führt, ist ganz und gar nicht dieser Ansicht. Zusammen mit seinen engsten Mitarbeitern Dr. Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), Storm (Halle Berry), Cyclops (James Marsden) und Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) versucht er seinen neuesten Schützling Rogue (Anna Paquin) aus den Klauen von Magneto zu befreien. Mit Hilfe von Roarkes Kräften will Magneto die Weltherrschaft an sich bringen, doch dagegen stehen die Kräfte von Professor Xs Truppe.

One of the most popular superhero teams in comic book history finally comes to the screen in this big-budget adaptation of the long-running Marvel Comics series. Psychic Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) leads a school of skilled mutants called X-Men, a peacekeeping force to safeguard the world against a race of genetically mutated humans known as Homo Sapiens Superior. However, Magneto (Ian McKellen), a mutant with a powerful magnetic charge, has also begun to organize a team to strike first against what he believes to be a threat from humanity. When he kidnaps Rogue (Anna Paquin) from the X-Men's compound, Xavier and his forces must rescue her, even as they continue to vie with Magneto for the fearsomely strong mutant battler Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). Both Xavier and Magneto also have to contend with Senator Kelly (Bruce Davison), a heartless political leader who wants a final solution against mutants on both sides. . Une adaptation franchement réussie, malgré une caractérisation pas parfaite des personnages et trop peu de scènes d'action. Le film de Bryan Singer respecte l'essence même du comic-book, à savoir le réalisme de l'intrigue et les discours sous-jacents, tels que le racisme, la discrimination... etc. Pour l'époque, X-Men est une vraie surprise qui va ouvrir la voie aux super-héros des années 2000. Aujourd'hui, c'est un très grand divertissement qui mérite d'être vu et re-vu.
