Rex Harrison & Richard Burton Staircase (1969)
In response to Mia & Liz, this is the introduction to the two London hairdressers played by Sexy Rexy and Dashing Dick in their second pairing 7 years after Cleopatra. Having two of Hollywood's notorious womanizers play homosexual hairdressers must have seemed very 'with it' in 1968. Alas, no one cared or came to the theater and this poignant production has hence languished in obscurity.

Staicase Drama Queen.mpg
This is a Mash-Up of Look At Me by Geri Halliwell and the 1969 movie Staircase with Richard Burton and Rex Harrison. It's filled with witty one liners. Staircase is a 1969 film adaptation of a two-character play, also called Staircase, by Charles Dyer. The film, like the play, is about an aging gay couple who own a barber shop in the East End of London. One of them is a part-time actor about to go on trial for propositioning a police officer. The action takes place over the course of one night as they discuss their loving but often volatile past together and possible future without each other. The two main characters are named Charles Dyer (the name of the playwright/screenwriter) and Harry C. Leeds, which is an anagram of his name. The screenplay was written by Dyer, and the film was directed by Stanley Donen. Dyer "opened up" the script to show the couple's neighborhood, expanded the action to cover a period of ten days, and added characters. Rex Harrison and Richard Burton portrayed the couple and Cathleen Nesbitt and Beatrix Lehmann were featured as their mothers. The film was produced by 20th Century Fox. Because of Great Britain's tax laws, the stars insisted that the film be shot in Paris, which added to the film's budget, already inflated by their salaries ($1 million for Harrison, $1.25 million for Burton). Reportedly Elizabeth Taylor was shooting 1970's The Only Game in Town at the same time as this film was in production. While that film is set in Las Vegas ...

565. Streets of London (Ralph McTell)
"Streets of London", Ralph McTell's best-selling song, was included on his album "Spiral Staircase" (1969), and was released as a single in 1974. It was inspired by his experiences busking and hitchhiking around Europe. The actual events are based on encounters with homeless, elderly and other forgotten members of society in the city of Paris, but he thought "London" sounded better in the song. He had already written it before recording his first album, but decided not to include it as he thought it too depressing. The song has been covered by many artists, including Cliff Richard, Joan Baez, Roger Whittaker and Sinead O'Connor. I am assisted here by Dylan Perry on guitar. if you look carefully you may also see a brief guest appearance by Axel Perry.

2002 The Spiral Staircase
Pat Upton, lead singer for the Spiral Staircase, sings at the Annual Three Saints Feast in Lawrence MA The Spiral Starecase was an American band, best known as a one-hit wonder for their 1969 single "More Today Than Yesterday". The band, from Sacramento, California, was a popular 1960s group, recognizable for its horns and lead singer/guitarist Pat Upton's distinctive voice. The group also included Harvey Kaye (organ), Dick Lopes (saxophone), Bobby Raymond (bass guitar) and Vinny Parello (drums). Starting as the Fydallions, they released that song, one album, and a few more singles including "No One for Me to Turn To" after signing with Columbia. The band is known for their hits "More Today Than Yesterday" (US #12), released in January 1969, and the follow-up "She's Ready". "More Today Than Yesterday" has been widely covered by, among others, Sonny and Cher, Diana Ross and the band Goldfinger, and was featured in the 1991 film My Girl, on the soundtrack of The Waterboy in 1998, and in an episode of Ally McBeal entitled Silver Bells. Forms (excerpt)
http://www.memo.tv/forms
Forms is an ongoing collaboration between visuals artists Memo Akten and Quayola, a series of studies on human motion, and its reverberations through space and time. It is inspired by the works of Eadweard Muybridge, Harold Edgerton, Étienne-Jules Marey as well as similarly inspired modernist cubist works such as Marcel Duchamp’s “Nude Descending a Staircase No.2″. Rather than focusing on observable trajectories, it explores techniques of extrapolation to sculpt abstract forms, visualizing unseen relationships – power, balance, grace and conflict – between the body and its surroundings.
The project investigates athletes; pushing their bodies to their extreme capabilities, their movements shaped by an evolutionary process targeting a winning performance. Traditionally a form of entertainment in todays society with an overpowering competitive edge, the disciplines are deconstructed and interrogated from an exclusively mechanical and aesthetic point of view; concentrating on the invisible forces generated by and influencing the movement.
The source for the study is footage from the Commonwealth Games. The process of transformation from live footage to abstract forms is exposed as part of the interactive multi-screen artwork, to provide insight into the evolution of the specially crafted world in which the athletes were placed.
The video installation is currently being exhibited at the National Media Museums ’In The Blink of an Eye’ Exhibition, 9th March – 2nd September, 2012, alongside classic images by photographers as diverse Harold Edgerton, Eadweard Muybridge, Roger Fenton, Richard Billingham and Oscar Rejlander as well as historic items of equipment, films and interactive displays.

Synopsis:
Secret Machine is the second of the Secrets Trilogy; a cycle exploring the imperceptible conditions that frame life and is preceded by Secret Life (2008) and followed by Six Easy Pieces (2010)
In Secret Machine a woman is subjected to Muybridge’s motion studies. She is treated in the same fashion as in the original Muybridge photography: with Greek aesthetic in a Cartesian grid. A short time after Mybridge’s studies, Duchamp painted Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2 (1912) attempting to show time on a flat surface. He is expanding cubism and painting into another dimension: time. Time is about movement and change, like our experience of reality. Without change life does not exist. Photography does not capture this experience. In Secret Machine different filming techniques are compared to the motion of the body. The film camera becomes another measurement tool in a way a video camera cannot. The intention was to make an art piece from the point of view of a machine, specifically a camera.

Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story.

Rex Harrison Tribute
Here are two great songs, chosen to enhance the charm and talent of the wonderful Rex Harrison: the first one, sung by Doris Day, from "My Fair Lady", one of Harrison's best movies, the second one, beautifully nostalgic, sung by Robert Goulet. Sir Reginald Carey "Rex" Harrison (1908 -- 1990) was an English actor of stage and screen. He first appeared on the stage in 1924 in Liverpool. He acted in various stage productions until May 1990. He acted in the West End of London when he was young, appearing in the Terence Rattigan play French Without Tears, which proved to be his breakthrough role. He won his first Tony Award for his appearance as Henry VIII in Anne of the Thousand Days and international superstardom (and a second Tony Award) for his portrayal of Henry Higgins in the musical My Fair Lady, in which he appeared opposite Julie Andrews. Harrison's film debut was in The Great Game (1930), and other notable films include The Citadel (1938), Night Train to Munich (1940), Major Barbara (1941), Blithe Spirit (1945), Anna and the King of Siam (1946), The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), The Foxes of Harrow (1947), The Constant Husband (1955), The Reluctant Debutante (1958), and The Yellow Rolls Royce (1964). He was best known for his portrayal of Professor Henry Higgins in the film version of his stage success, 1964 film version of My Fair Lady, based on the Broadway production of the same name (which itself was based on George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion), for which ...

THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE "More Today Than Yesterday" I don't remember what day it was I didn't notice what time it was All I know is that I fell in love with you And if all my dreams come true I'll be spending time with you Every day's a new day in love with you With each day comes a new way of loving you Every time I kiss your lips my mind starts to wander If all my dreams come true I'll be spending time with you Oh, I love you more today than yesterday But not as much as tomorrow I love you more today than yesterday But, darling, not as much as tomorrow Tomorrow's date means springtime's just a day away Cupid, we don't need ya now, be on your way I thank the Lord for love like ours that grows ever stronger And I always will be true I know you feel the same way too Oh, I love you more today than yesterday But not as much as tomorrow I love you more today than yesterday But only half as much as tomorrow Every day's a new day, every time I love ya Every way's a new way, every time I love ya Every day's a new day, every time I love ya
