16mm ANAMORPHIC TEST
A very cheap experiment with an anamorphic lens mounted onto an Arri S 16mm film camera. This was also an expirment to see how well the 12 year-old reversal film stock would hold up. Because it was an experiment, a professional telecine transfer was not employed.

16mm Film Project PickPocket
This is our 16mm film project which is a group project. It's the very first time we actually use FILM to shoot a film, pretty special expereience. However, because of the length limitation of our film stock, there may have some small shots missing. Anyway, overall I'm pleased about this final output.

"The Surprise" - 16mm Film Shoot (Behind The Scenes)
My first project in my Production 1 class this semester was to shoot a short film using a 16mm Bolex film camera.
I was given 100 feet of film, roughly 2 minutes and 45 seconds, and a list of camera angles that had to be included. The story could be anything I wanted.
Shooting on a film camera is such a tedious and time consuming process, requiring exact measurements of light, distance, focus, and everything else that would only take seconds to set working with a digital camera.
It took around 7 hours total to shoot the entire length of film.
As of uploading this video, I have no idea how any of the footage turned out. When I get it back in a couple of weeks, I will edit and upload the final product. The entire thing may be completely messed up, but I guess that's part of the learning process.

Bell and howell 8D 655 16mm film projector
Bell & Howell 16mm projector model 8D 655. I have modified this projector to use a 250 watt halogen bulb commonly found in overhead- and slide projectors instead of the original 1000 watt tungsten lamp which is just about impossible to obtain. As you can hear, the EL84 push-pull amplifier is working great. This projector is supposed to be automatic threading, but if you push down the lever for the auto threading system the whole system jams, so it has to be threaded manually.

16mm Film 400ft 250D Vision 3 - Test Shoot for "Away with Love"
Most of the music is from an album called: Chopin Etudes Preludes Polonaises (Disc 2). In the middle there is a guitar version of the Prélude From Cello Suite No. 1 and it is from Andrés Segovia's album, The Art of Segovia.
This video is a plain reel of developed 16mm footage, specifically Kodak VISION 3 250D 7207. The neg was put onto a Beta SP tape and then the tape was captured on a Beta SP tape deck, that is why the quality is not as nice as as you would expect from film. I wish there was a nice cheap easy way to get a raw piece of film onto my hard drive in 1920 x 1080. You would think that cant be so hard, but oh my word, you have to transfer to HD CAM which is not extremely cheap, but here is a tip for everyone who bothers to read all of this, seriously this was gold for me on later projects, simply ask if they can transfer the footage for you to HD on one of their "gash stock hd cam tapes" and they will hopefully go, oh, so thats what you want, okay here it is in HD. easy peasy.. Most of this reel was hand held, in fact, all it was hand held. We shot the first part of it in Observatory, in Cape Town, then there is a house scene that takes place between a mother and her son, that was also Observatory, then we have some exterior morning shots in Bonteheuvel along the N2, 5 minutes drive from Observatory. I had an ND9 Grad and an ND 9 on the camera for those morning shots at the end. it was amazing how much latitude film had, you'll notice at 06:08 how mistaken blown out that shot was, because the grading at telecine only kicks in at 06:10, so for two seconds you see the original exposure, and then the grade/correction kicks in and it blew my brain off to see how much you can pull film down. So it is always better to overexpose the neg. If its under, then there is nothing there to bring up, but if its over, then there is information to pull down. I wish the film school i go to taught me this. I had the beautiful Laura Gamse assist me on the morning shots, and she took a few shots too. anyway, there is not much more to it. stay gold everyone
