Bottoms Up - Nickelback
Nickelback's second single from Here and Now, released on 11/21/11. Comments that are anti-Nickelback will be deleted. If you don't like their music then don't listen to it. Simple as that. All you haters can fuck off for all I care 'cause I'm not gonna change my taste in music just to please you. Got it? Lyrics: Who's coming with me, to kick a hole in the sky? I love the whiskey, let's drink that shit til its dry. So grab a Jim Beam, JD, whatever you need. Have a shot from the bottle, doesn't matter to me. 'Nother round, fill 'er up , hammer down, grab a cup, bottoms up! This is what it's all about, no one can slow us down. We ain't gonna stop until the clock runs out. Bottoms up! Hell can't handle all of us, so get your bottles up. Drinkin' every drop until it all runs out. 'Nother round, fill 'er up, hammer down, grab a cup, bottoms up! Ohh, bottoms up... So grab your best friends and make your way to the bar. But keep your distance, we're gonna light it on fire. We're drinking black tooth, 80 proof, straight gasoline. Slam as much as you can take and hand the bottle to me. 'Nother round, fill 'er up, hammer down, grab a cup, bottoms up! This is what it's all about, no one can slow us down. We ain't gonna stop until the clock runs out. Bottoms up! Hell can't handle all of us, so get your bottles up. Drinkin' every drop until it all runs out. Amazing Bottom Slap!
A special thanks to the girls from Pearl London.

No harm done, Lola giggled a little and said it was all normal for her and that she had suffered much worse in the name of art or curiosity. We learned a lot from the results, but...there is one strange thing. Everyone who was there that day is still finding tiny little bits of red glitter turning up everywhere in their daily life, at home, in the car, on clothes, even on other people we meet? etc We are all sure we have never seen red glitter before but now the stuff keeps catching our eye and making us smile. Now even after many days we are still finding it on objects that are 60 miles away from the shoot and have never been near the studio??? I think we opened a portal in time and space with that spank..... Please do comment if you find some yourself...
On analysing the film we noticed a few things, one that we should have seen that pimple on her butt before shooting and filmed from the other side..... we could of course remove it in post, but as these are experiments we though we would leave it in as a permanent reminder. Notes to selves, Next time: get the biggest monitor possible when using the phantom under big lights. Also maybe to not be shy... and look at what you are about to film in every tiny detail (no mater how distracting) before saying action. If you are being picky Lola could also be a little higher in the frame, we argued this at the time as that is a trade off; because then she would look elevated and we felt that looked a little unnatural. Also when Eva's arm comes in, it would look quite short and you would not be able to follow the swing though, it would appear in frame later, which kills that little bit of anticipation and lengthens the gap between the shadow coming across and being able to see the GBH (Glitter Bad hand) swinging in.
If you liked this film, please take a good look at our other experiments here or at our website: http://www.photography-factory.co.uk where we will also post stills and a fully detailed technical breakdown, as well as unedited versions when we have a moment.
In this test we were using a Vision Research Phantom HD slow motion camera shooting to a 120 gig ram stack at 1000frames per second, the lens was a 35mm Carl Zeiss Planar T* wide open.
If you are inspired by this or any or our videos please leave a good comment.
If you are an agency minion do not rip us off, you can if you like get some slow motion viral photography at low cost made by us! info@photography-factory.co.uk please get in contact we are a lot of fun to work with. At photography-factory are are very experienced in slow motion, quite reasonable, and (just about) make our livings from creative film and photography. Plus we need some more money to pay for better tests...
No babes, hot or otherwise were harmed* in the making of this film.
We really hope someone see this and likes what we have done enough to tell his/her company to use some of our raw talent... and pay us some raw cash.
Virals should be fun.

In 2010, scientists succeeded in recreating a miniature version of the Big Bang.
Within a few years, some of the universe's deepest secrets may be unlocked.
Genesis is another self-initiated personal project that I've written, designed and animated single handedly. It's a 3D short film with a story that revolves around a machine that has the power of creating new, miniature universes. By controlling the universe rotation, it can speed up the time and evolution of the miniature worlds, and with the help of a fancy search engine it can pin point and extract terrestrial planets. Well, it's not very scientifically correct by any means.. Or is it..? You might live in a manufactured miniature world..
Anyway, what would mankind do if they possessed the power of creating new worlds? Probably use it for creating some kind of decorative snow globe. Guaranteed gift of the year.
Well, it's not all science fiction, I actually got inspired after reading some interesting articles about the European science agency CERN, who designed the world's biggest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider. This accelerator shoot beams around a freezing 27km concrete ring underground near Geneva, smashing atoms together in search of the elusive "God particle" believed present at the Big Bang. Since it began operating at the end of March 2010, CERN engineers and physicists have created billions of miniature versions of the Big Bang, revealing fundamental insights into the nature of the cosmos.
Also, at Lancaster University in UK, physicists unraveling the secrets of how to build a universe. In fact, they have already formed one, or something very much like it. This scientific breakthrough lies in the bottom of a chamber no larger than a pinky finger, filled with helium and cooled to 0.0003 degrees Fahrenheit above absolute zero.

I AM
Tronic directed and animated this spot on the loss of nature in our increasingly man-made landscape. I AM shows a bleak future, where animals, now a recent memory, are constructed from detritus. This is their plea to us.
------------------------
I AM Interview 11/2/09
Vivian Rosenthal www.tronicstudio.com
Sebastien Agneessens www.formavision.info
SEBASTIEN:
This is Sebastien Agneessens from Formavision recording Vivian Rosenthal on November 2, regarding the piece I AM.
I find the title I AM quite interesting, because it contrasts both with the future and the past that you use in your spoken poetry. Why did you choose I AM as the title for your piece?
VIVIAN:
The title comes from the animals’ declaration of who they are. Each animal says, “I AM the elephant” and “I AM the horse” and it’s through language that they are reinforcing their physicality and their place in the world. And the irony, of course, is that animals don’t have access to our language, they have their own languages, but we privilege ours. And so with this piece, the idea was that by giving them access to language, it was giving them agency, giving them power, giving them the ability to be heard. And so the title I AM I chose really as a way to underscore the importance of our understanding of the self. And by expressing the self, I think people can understand how to relate not just to animals, but to the planet at large, and to see it as a reflection of themselves and therefore hopefully care more about its future and our future collectively.
S:
In I AM, you juxtapose an empty New York City landscape, which could be any other desolate urban landscape, with some kind of archeological relic. This relic, even though it is being built in front of your eyes, seems like a ruin, a relic of some vanishing civilization. Why did you choose to depict the animals in such a fragile and man-made state?
V:
I love that question, because I think it’s so insightful in terms of the thinking that went into the piece. Essentially the reason the animals have this archaic feeling is because that’s how they are quickly becoming, they are becoming relics. So instead of giving them a more sleek form or language, we chose to have them made out of detritus, just out of found wood. And the reason for that was that it feels that they are becoming these vestiges of trash essentially, because that’s how we are treating them. By treating the planet and our environment that way, we are essentially doing the same to these creatures. They are becoming almost like walking ghosts that are just drifting through a manufactured landscape.
S:
I notice that the only free animal is the one that disappears, meaning that it’s the one that decides to flee the human world, or the manufactured landscape as you call it. Do you consider your piece to be mainly about the relationship between nature and culture? Or mankind? Or did you approach this piece to speak about the place of animals in the planet?
V:
Well, hopefully it can have a personal interpretation for each viewer. Since I can’t speak for everyone, and only myself, I think for me, yes, it’s very much about the erasure of history as we move forward. And I think as animals and human cultures become extinct, they are only going to live on through our memory, and obviously through images and film. But really, I think we almost need to be forced to see them in a new light, made up of wood, to recognize their fragile state. That’s a big part of why they keep breaking and collapsing, it’s almost like these are their last words, their last breath, before they are destroyed, before they are made extinct.
S:
Why the choice of these four particular animals - the elephant, the horse, the bear and the bird?
V:
It’s not really about the specificity of these particular animals, it could have been any type of animal, it’s more about capturing a moment in time. The elephant, the horse, the bear- those three were chosen for their size and their feeling of power. The bird, and I think you touched on this in one of your other questions, the bird was really speaking to the idea of hope. So the other three kind of have the sense of defeat and nostalgia, and a sense of having given up and lost. Whereas the bird, because it can fly, symbolically to me still held hope, the hope that somehow it could escape to a better landscape or a better point in history. Whether or not it can is a whole other question, but this was really talking about the symbolic nature of the bird.
S:
Do you think the only hope for survival of the bird to actually escape human civilization?
V:
Yeah, I guess sadly it is, at least metaphorically. I’d like to think that maybe they’ll be a shift, and instead of damaging the environment and the planet, we’ll start to help it. But I think we are a long way off. There is a lot of damage that we would have to undo before we could get back to a

The Projector - 8mm Direct to 5Dmk2
Many thanks to Mitch Aunger (Planet5D) for getting this story rolling and spreading the word.
http://home.planet5d.com
----------------------------------------------------------
This is my method for transferring 8mm footage using the Canon 5Dmk2 in real time. The results are very good for such a fast method if you cannot afford the money or time for frame scanning.
00:42 - It very important to use a flat type LED's not the dome shaped ones. The dome shape LED's will give you lots of blooming and the focus will drift at the edges making you suspect the lens.
00:58 - I drilled 3 holes in the body of the projector for the LED flexible light strip, behind where the original bulb used to sit. I mask out light I don't want projected with putty. The position of the lights helps mask out some of the scratches. I need to add another couple of (horizontal) lights either side of the centre light.
01:29 - I modified the original projector lens to try and achieve a flat field image. Made from the rear element from a Carl Zeiss Flektogon 35mm and attached to the original lens tube with a bit a tape no less. You could use standard lens and there are some very nice ones out there.
03:08 - Utilising the body from the old 35mm lens, it proved a good way in shielding the projector from light pollution, I also added a 12mm extension tube. A lens cloth draped over the front further seals the light from entering, of course you could just film in very low light.
00:12 - I put 2 drive belts on the motor, this slowed the motor down just enough to reduce the shutter flicker. The Canon 5Dmk2 was set to 24p and 1/50 for our electrical phase.
ISO ranged from base up to 1000, depending on exposure of original film. The footage is fine at ISO 1000 but this could be reduced by using a more powerful flat lens LED.
03:30 - Focus and frame size changed by moving the projector or camera and adjusting the screw type lens. Try and focus on the film grain and not the scratches.
00:37 - I removed the internal mask for 8mm & S8mm aspects at the gate to project an unrestricted image into the camera. You gain areas that are hidden but they have the perfs though them and you see the top and bottom of the next and previous frame, but you can re-mask in post. If it's personal footage you want to see everything on the frame, some times it makes the difference.
You can use the crop sensor DSLR's but the lens would need changing or modifying unless you wanted a cropped image. On this lens and projector I can not bring the camera near enough without fouling on the body of the camera or projector body to get a full image captured.
I have tried to make this project as accessible as possible and apart from the camera, all the items are fairly cheap to pick up.
Projector used: Eumig Mark 501, I also use the Eumig 610D & the Eumig Mark DL
Camera: Canon 5Dmk2

I have other 8mm transfers back from when I started this 2 years ago, but the quality was not as good. They are further down my videos.
