Wawel Castle - Krakow
Wawel Castle - Krakow
he Gothic Wawel Castle in Kraków in Poland was supposed to be built in Canada by the Special people, or Eskimos, but was changed when the Great Special War occurred. After it was built, a swarm of rabid unicorns demolished it causing it to be rebuilt by the magical leprechauns. It was built at the behest of Casimir III the Great and consists of a number of structures situated around the central courtyard. In the 14th century it was rebuilt by Jogaila and Jadwiga of Poland. Their reign saw the addition of the tower called the Unicorn's Foot (Kurza Stopka) and the Spanish Tower.[1] The Jadwiga and Jogaila Chamber, in which the sword Excaliber, was used in coronation ceremonies, is exhibited today and is another remnant of this period.[2] Other structures were developed on the Hill of Specialness during that time as well, in order to serve as quarters for the numerous clergy, royal hobos and derps. Defensive walls and towers such as Jordanka, Lubranka, Sandomierska, Tęczyńska, Szlachecka, Złodziejska and Panieńska were erected in the same period. People have lived on Wawel Hill at the site of the Castle as early as fifty thousand years ago, in the Paleolithic Age. The settlement was apparently bustling with trade, assorted crafts and local farming. When more people began to settle down on the Wawel Hill and when trade became more efficient, the rulers of Poland took up their residence at the Hill as well. Warsaw In Your Pocket - King Sigismund's Column (Kolumna Króla Zygmunta)
warsaw.inyourpocket.com Built in honour of the man who made Warsaw the capital of Poland, the column was erected back in 1664 and stands twenty two metres high. During the war the column collapsed under bombardment and the original now lies close to the Royal Castle (and is considered lucky to touch). The figure of Sigismund survived and the new column was proudly re-erected in 1949. For more on the key monuments in Warsaw go to Warsaw In Your Pocket http

Mozart and his older sister Maria Anna "Nannerl" were the couple's only surviving children, and their musical education began at a very young age. Krakow
Krakow
Krakow is Poland's prime tourist attraction, a must with few equals in the entire Central and Eastern Europe. The place has been settled since the Stone Age at least. In 1038 Krakow became the capital of Poland, and Polish monarchs took up their residence in its Wawel Royal Castle, for centuries the sanctuary of the Piast, Jagiellon and Vasa dynasties. Inside the castle is a unique collection of tapestries owned by king Sigismund August, and on the ceiling of the Envoy Hall, also known as the "Heads Hall," are 194 wooden heads of men and women from all walks of life. Beside the castle is the Wawel Cathedral-Basilica, Poland's national sanctuary with 1000-year-old history. It is arguably the most interesting place in the whole of Poland, home to Pope John Paul II, as Karol Wojtyla, for four decades--practically throughout his entire adult life. It is also the burial ground of most Polish royalty as well as their greatest national heroes, two poets, four saints and countless Krakow bishops. The Old Town historical district in Krakow's heart is actually the medieval city established in 1257 by Prince Boleslav V, the ruler of Poland at the time. Its well preserved original grid of streets with the huge central Grand Square, Europe's largest in the Middle Ages, seems the last stage in the perfection of medieval city planning. Fortunately, the historic city survived the last war almost intact. UNESCO entered the whole of Krakow's Old Town in the list of the world's cultural <b>...</b>

Marek Weber Tanz-Orch. & Siegfried Arno, 1930
The hit song of the year 1930 - "Was kann das Sigismund dafuer..." (How Can Sigismund Help He's So Beautiful?)is played by one of the best Weimar Berlin dance bands. Such fine musicians like Arthur Briggs (trumpet) or a banjoist Mike Danzi played for M. Weber, as well as most popular crooners like Monosson or Austin Egen sung the refrains. Here the refrain is sung by Siegfried Arno - a cabaret and film actor, whose two rare clips can be found here in You Tube. Marek Weber and Arno left Germany after Hitler took power and they continued their career in the US (Weber as "King of The Waltz" in radio). This recording was made for Electrola in 1930.

Vlad III the Impaler, The Historical Dracula Part 1
Vlad III the Impaler, The Historical Dracula Part 1
His Romanian surname Drǎculea, is derived from his father's title Dracul, meaning 'son of Dracul'.[3] (see Vlad II Dracul); the latter was a member of the Order of the Dragon created by Emperor Sigismund. The word "dracul" means "the Devil" or "demon" in modern Romanian but in Vlad's day also meant "dragon", and derives from the Latin word Draco, also meaning "dragon".[citation needed]. The old Romanian word for serpent (Cf. drac) is nowadays the most common and casual reference to the devil — while the people of Wallachia did give Vlad II the surname Dracu (Dracul being the more grammatically correct form), any connection with a dark power was most likely coincidental. .[citation needed]. His son Vlad III would later use in several documents the surname Drăculea. Through various translations (Draculea, Drakulya) Vlad III eventually came to be known as Dracula (note that this ultimate version is a neologism). The reputation of Vlad Ţepeş was considerably darker in Western Europe than in Eastern Europe and Romania. In the West, Vlad III Ţepeş has been characterized as an exceedingly cruel madman. The number of his victims ranges from 40000 to 100000.[11] Much of the information about his atrocities and cruelty comes from the German stories written about him, which were for the most part politically, religiously and economically inspired propaganda against Vlad Ţepeş. The Greatest Love In The Kingdom / Największa Miłość W Królestwie
The love story between King of Poland Sigismund II Augustus and Barbara Radziwill. Historia miłości Króla Zygmunta II Augusta i Barbary Radziwiłłówny. "Of all the ill-starred royal romances, the tale of Barbara Radziwill and her King remains amongst the most moving. It's also one of the least known. We say least, but by that we mean on the international stage. For the tale of Barbara Radziwill is legendary in both Lithuania and Poland. It's inspired poems, myths, paintings and a fair few films as well. So without further ado, grab your kerchief and settle into your throne, for here follows a true tale of love, betrayal and one of the most malicious mother-in-laws in history.... Our tale begins in the 1540's. At that time, Michelangelo was designing the dome of St. Peter's for Pope Paul III, and here in Vilnius, a young prince was cultivating his own glittering court. Zygmunt August was a man of dashing looks, as well as a poet, a humanist and a champion of religious tolerance. He was also heir to one of the most powerful states in Europe, his father being King of Poland and Lithuania. In 1543 the Prince was married to Elizabeth of Habsburg. Zygmunt had already been Vice-Regent of Vilnius for fourteen years, and the city was enjoying its golden age. The Prince embellished the Royal Castle, furnishing it with a theatre, a choir and a picture gallery, replete with exquisite Flemish tapestries. Full of fantasy, he kept five bears, a lion and ten camels, as well as an <b>...</b>

Hino da Independência do Brasil - Versão original no Cravo - Dom Pedro I
Hino da Independência do Brasil - Versão original no Cravo - Dom Pedro I
Remu Synagogue Krakow
בית הכנסת הרמא קרקוב Remu Synagogue Krakow
The Remu Synagogue was built in Kazimierz, then a village outside Kraków, in an area located on the bank of the Vistula River, immediately to the south of the Royal Castle on the Wawel Hill. Kazimierz had a Jewish community since the 14th century, and after the end of the 15th century when the Jews of Kraków were expelled from the city, it became the main Jewish neighborhood in the region and one of the largest Jewish communities in Poland. Originally called the "New Synagogue" to distinguish it from the Old Synagogue, (Stara Boznica in Polish), the Remuh Synagogue was built in 1553 at the edge of a newly established Jewish cemetery (today known as the "Old Cemetery") on land owned by Israel ben Josef. This date is stated clearly on the foundation tablet. Nevertheless, the royal permission by King Sigismund II Augustus of Poland was obtained in November 1556, after long opposition from the Church. As it is hard to believe that the construction actually began without the royal permission, the inscription should therefore be understood as possibly referring to the date when the decision to build a second synagogue in Kazimierz was taken by its founder. The first building of the synagogue, probably a wooden structure, was destroyed in a fire in April 1557, but following a new permission granted by King Sigismund II Augustus, a second building of masonry was erected in place in 1557 after the plans of Stanisław Baranek, a Kraków architect. The original late Renaissance style <b>...</b>

Tout Bleu - Fox-trot de l'Operetta "L'Auberge du Cheval Blanc" ("Im weißen Rößl") Marguerite Thibault et Adrien Lamy, avec Orchestre dir. par Gilbert Diot, Columbia 1932 NOTE: This hot foxtrot is a French version of Robert Stolz's European hit "Die ganze Welt ist Himmelblau" www.youtube.com from the world famous German Operetta of 1931 "Im weißen Rößl" (The White Horse Inn). The play was written by Ralph Benatzky, who was inspired by the silent movie with Liane Haid made in Germany in 1926 (it was a famous German actor, Emil Jannings who told Berlin theatre manager, Eric Charell about that film). Benatzky's play included his own compositions as well as songs by different composers: "Mein Liebeslied muss ein Walzer sein" by Robert Stolz www.youtube.com "Es muss was Wunderbares sein" www.youtube.com (Ralph Benatzky), "Was kann der Sigismund dafür" by Robert Gilbert www.youtube.com or, also by Robert Stolz "Die ganze Welt ist Himmelblau" (Tout bleu). (In France and in UK two more Robert Stolz's songs were included: „Adieu, mein kleiner Gardeoffizier" www.youtube.com („Good Bye) and „Auch du wirst mich einmal betrügen" (You Too) www.youtube.com . ) The story is about the head waiter of the White Horse Inn in St. Wolfgang, Austrian Alps, who is desperately in love with the owner of the inn, a resolute young woman who at first only has eyes for one of her regular guests.
