Following the Lausanne Treaty, the 'Armenian Issue' ceased to exist. However, the Armenians of Diaspora, clinging firmly to their allegations, unleashed a series of terrorist attacks on Turkish diplomatic missions abroad as of 1970.
All these attacks were masterminded by ASALA for short, the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia. Under a mask of independence, ASALA carried out ruthless and dastardly attacks. Psychologically and logistically supported by the Hinchaks, ASALA engaged in acts of terror against Turkish diplomats, representation offices and other organizations. These armed assaults rapidly escalated in a short period of time. Armenians who had assured bases for their activities in both Europe and the East, Syria and Lebanon in particular, continued their acts of terror in collaboration with Greeks and Greek Cypriots. As a result of the world wide repercussion of these armed attacks on Turkish diplomats.
In fact, these two organizations assumed responsibility for the bomb attacks perpetrated on November 9 of the same year on the Turkish Consulate General in Strasbourg and on November 19th on the Tukish Airlines offices in Rome.
A CIA report on Armenian terrorism, which was declassified recently, also narrates about Asala's "heroic deeds" in the 1970s-1980s. According to the report, between the years 1975-1983, it perpetrated 200 terrorist acts, including 161 blasts and 12 commissioned murders. During the period, Asala committed 35 terrorist acts in France, 22 - in Switzerland, 18 - in Italy and 17 in the USA. It also committed numerous terrorist acts in Spain, the UK, West Germany, Lebanon, Turkey and Iran - 22 countries in total. These terrorist acts were committed by a dozen Armenian terrorist groups a large part of which belong to Asala. Their main targets were Turkish diplomats and citizens. The CIA report makes certain conclusions which point to a direct agreement between a number of European nations and Asala as a result of which Armenian terrorists only received short prison terms or were released altogether despite the fact that citizens of these European countries died at their hands.
The CIA report makes an alarming conclusion: "In a plot that has ominous implications for international cooperation in combating terrorism, some Western European countries reached agreement with ASALA, giving terrorists a freedom to prosecute Turkish targets in exchange for a promise not to attack the indigenous citizens of these countries. Turkey was appalled by Europe's indifference and tacit agreement with the Asala terrorism. They are extending a decisive pressure on the USA to ensure that the latter can pressure the governments of European states and immediately engage in the struggle against this threat."

Armenian Americans (Armenian: ամերիկահայեր) are citizens or residents of the United States who have total or partial Armenian ancestry. They form the second largest community in the Armenian diaspora after Armenians in Russia. The first major wave of Armenian immigration to the US took place in late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Between the 1960s and 1980s Armenians from the Middle Eastern nations of Turkey, Iran and Lebanon migrated to America as a result of political instability in those countries. At around the same time immigration from Soviet Armenia began. It accelerated in the late 1980s and has continued after Armenia's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 due to socio-economic reasons.
The 2011 American Community Survey estimated that 483,366 Americans held full or partial Armenian ancestry. Various organizations and media criticize these numbers as an underestimate, proposing 800,000 to 1,500,000 Armenian Americans instead. The highest concentration of Americans of Armenian descent is in the Greater Los Angeles area, where 166,498 people have identified themselves as Armenian to the 2000 Census, comprising over 40% of the 385,488 people who identified Armenian origins in the US at the time. Glendale, California is widely thought to be the center of Armenian American life.

Black Americans Failed by Good Intentions: An Interview with Jason Riley

"My beef with the black left is that they want to keep the focus on what government or Washington or politicians or whites in general can do for blacks, instead of what blacks can do for themselves," says Jason Riley, author of Please Stop Helping Us: How Liberals Make it Harder for Blacks to Succeed and editorial board member of the Wall Street Journal.
In a wide-ranging conversation with Reason TV's Nick Gillespie, Riley praises the Civil Rights acts of the 1960s even as he takes aim at affirmative action in higher education, which he says keeps black graduation rates low even as it increases diversity among freshman classes at various univesities. He also argues that the drug war doesn't explain black-on-black violence and ending it won't transform urban America in the way libertarians insist. His book lays out the case against the minimum wage in a chapter called "Mandating Unemployment" and he argues that especially among African Americans, an intact family unit is the best anti-poverty program available.
About 20 minutes.
Produced by Anthony L. Fisher, camera by Meredith Bragg and Fisher, with assistance from Brett Crudgington.

On Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)47%
insisted Dr. Ben Carson apologize for saying a Muslim should not be president of the Untied States.
Graham said, “During the second election of Karzai, I had an opportunity to go to a polling station during the election with military members in charge of security. One was a young man who grew up in Kabul, went to this particular high school. He came to America. He was a member of the United States Army. He was so proud of what happened in Afghanistan. He was proud to wear the uniform. I had a cup of coffee with him, and, yes, one day, I hope that young man could grow up to be president of the United States.”
He continued, “America is an idea not owned by a particular religion, race or anything else. Out of many comes one. I think Dr. Carson needs to apologize to this young man and every other Muslim serving their country and to the American Muslim community. And if he understood the world and how dangerous it is he would not say things like this. We have to partner with people in the faith to destroy radical Islam. And most Muslims throughout the world reject what radical Islam is trying to do to the world and their faith. This is an example to me that Mr. Carson may be a good doctor, but he is not ready to lead a great nation.”
He continued, “what would he say to the young man I met in Kabul who left Afghanistan, became an American citizen, joined the United States army? What would he say to the approximately 3,500 American Muslims who have been to Iraq and Afghanistan fighting for our freedom, risking their lives. What he should say is thank you for serving our great nation. We’re all in this together.”

ATLANTA, GA — In what is now an annual remembrance ceremony, Armenian-Americans, friends of the community, and elected officials from across the state came together at the Georgia State Capitol on April 24 to honor the innocent victims and commemorate the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. The mistress of ceremonies for the event was Dr. Vardoui Agasarkisian-Jinian representing the Armenian National Committee (ANC) of Georgia.
Former Congressman and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Andrew Young opened the ceremony with an invocation. He then delivered the welcoming remarks. Young spoke about the importance of remembering past genocides—particularly the Armenian Genocide.
Congressmen John Lewis and Hank Johnson, Superior Court Chief Judge Thelma Wyatt Cummings Moore, and former Mayor of Atlanta Bill Campbell also delivered remarks about the importance of remembering the Armenian Genocide, and the duty to prevent such crimes from taking place in the future.
Lewis extended his deepest sympathy to the Armenian community. “Today, people all over the world will stop and remember the 1.5 million Armenians killed between 1915 and 1923. I applaud your dedication to preserving the memory of those who lost their lives,” said Lewis.
In her remarks, Judge Cummings Moore spoke about the Armenian community and the community’s political involvement in Atlanta. She stressed the importance for the U.S. government to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide in order to ensure that such atrocities never happen again.
Congressman Hank Johnson stressed the importance of remembrance and historical justice, Johnson noted, “As we mark the 100th anniversary of these terrible atrocities, let us remember those who have come before us, and not forget their suffering. Remembering these tragic events helps our society advance the cause of human rights.”
Emory University Professor Dr. Julieta Stepanyan-Abgaryan delivered moving remarks. She discussed her life in Soviet Armenia, and the independence movement. She also touched upon the stories of her family members, survivors of the genocide.
Chairman of the American Armenian Association Dr. Sarkis Agasarkisian discussed current congressional efforts to attain U.S. recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the importance of international recognition of Artsakh’s independence.
“…Many Turkish scholars—at the face of death threats and criminal prosecution—are calling upon their government to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide. Until the U.S. recognizes the Armenian Genocide, Turkey will keep denying it,” said Agasarkisian.
He also touched upon the importance of recognizing the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, Artsakh, “We need to have an understanding about the historical realities and call upon the U.S. government to formally recognize the independence of the Nagorno Karabagh Republic. Artsakh is part of historic Armenia; it was arbitrarily carved out of it and placed under Soviet Azerbaijan. However, it has never been part of an independent Azerbaijani state,” he concluded.
Noah Mushegian read the Atlanta City Council Proclamation, which designates April 24, 2015 as the day to honor the “100th Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.”
Georgia State Representative Mable Thomas read resolutions on Nagorno Karabagh and the Armenian Genocide. Janett Mushagian read the Georgia Governor’s letter to the Armenian community.
Former Mayor of Atlanta Bill Campbell, who was the first city mayor to issue an Armenian Genocide proclamation, praised the activism of the Armenian community of Atlanta. He noted the importance of condemning all genocides. Campbell read the latest proclamation of current Mayor Kasim Reed, which states, “As you assemble to commemorate this tragic occurrence, I salute the Armenian community for all that you do to advance human rights and cultural understanding.”
The memorable ceremony concluded with Mushegian’s benediction, followed by Ruzanna Pogosian’s a capella performance of “Kelle Lao.” Dr. Vardoui Agasarkisian-Jinian thanked the attendees, particularly Aroutioun Agasarkisian and Sarkis Agasarkisian, who first initiated the annual remembrance ceremony in the State of Georgia.

**FROM LA THIS WEEK, CHANNEL 35**
CITY HALL -- The Los Angeles City Council took action on two items on Wednesday to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, one of the greatest crimes against humanity,Councilmembers Mitch O’Farrell and Paul Krekorian announced this week.
The first motion, which was introduced by O’Farrell and seconded by multiple Councilmembers, directs staff to install signage at Hollywood Blvd and Western Ave, which is located in the Little Armenia neighborhood of the 13th District. The intersection is a key point for the annual genocide march, and commemorative events are held in cities around the world every April 24.
“This memorial square will honor the 1.5 million Armenians that perished, and the hundreds of thousands more that were permanently displaced, while serving as a daily reminder of what happened 100 years ago,” said Councilmember O’Farrell, who represents the 13th District. “The cultural, economic, and political contributions that have emanated out of Little Armenia for decades have helped make all of Los Angeles a better place, and understanding the history of the Armenian genocide makes us all more enlightened."
Vice Consul of Armenia Valery Mkrtoumian was on hand for the vote and spoke in favor of the motion and the significance of having this square in Little Armenia. The City Council also discussed additional plans to commemorate the 100th anniversary, including planting 100 pomegranate trees across the City and illuminating City Hall in purple for the week of April 24.
“This memorial shows that the City of Los Angeles is fully committed to commemorating the Armenian Genocide and educating people throughout the city about our community’s continued struggle for justice and recognition,” said Councilmember Krekorian, District 2. “Like so many others, members of my family survived the genocide and planted our roots in this great city. It is so important that we honor those who died so that we can preserve our history and prevent such horrors from happening again.”
The second item was a motion co-introduced by O’Farrell and Krekorian, and seconded by Council President Herb Wesson, that seeks to add April 24 to the Council Recess Calendar to coincide with this year’s march - which is termed March for Justice.
Organizers of the event are expecting it to take place on a much larger scale than the annual marches. It will start in the 13th District and stretch six miles through the 4th Council District, the City of West Hollywood, and then to the Turkish Consulate in the 5th Council District. Thousands of people from across the Southland are expected to participate in the event. Route details will be announced soon. [SEE: March for Justice]
The Genocide was committed by Ottoman Turkey in 1915, when 1.5 million Armenians were massacred and another half million were deported from their ancestral homeland of several millenia.
Greater Los Angeles is home to the largest population of Armenian-Americans in the United States.

it was another beautiful wonderful parade...the one day of the year that makes up for all of Pasadena's other faults...and it was one of the COLDEST new year days, if not the coldest I've ever experienced...but the parade moves so quickly you don't have time to worry about being cold or anything else...especially if you are trying to capture it all on film as I was doing (photos & video)...so here it is; and due to the trolls I've turned off commenting and ratings...just enjoy ! (SORRY for the darkness...I didn't realize until later how much shadow the nearby building was creating)

The ANCA Hovig Apo Saghdejian Capital Gateway Program (CGP) was launched in 2003 as a strategic initiative to strengthen the scope and depth of the Armenian American advocacy presence in Washington, DC policy-making circles, and also, eventually, throughout America.
The CGP aligns the professional interests of ambitious and talented young Armenian Americans with the ANCA's broader political interest in seeing Armenian Americans play a more prominent role in all aspects of decision-making in the nation's capital.
Since its start, the CGP has helped place over 100 Armenian Americans in various public policy and government positions in and around Washington, DC, and, on a less formal basis, materially assisted at least as many other Armenian Americans in their job searches. Fall and Winter internships are also available through the CGP - either at the ANCA or elsewhere.
Among the placements that these young professionals have secured are the U.S. Export-Import Bank, Congressional Quarterly, World Bank, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Fleishman Hillard, Chemonics International, Political Media, Louis Berger Group, Civilian Research & Development Foundation, Central Asia and Caucasus Analyst, Booz Allen Hamilton, American Civil Liberties Union, American Lung Association, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Human Rights Campaign, Human Rights Watch, Bloomberg BNA, National Democratic Institute, and various House and Senate member and committee offices.
The creation of the Capital Gateway Program Advisory Committee (CGPAC) in March 2010 and the structuring of the CGP into two set sessions - Winter and Fall - has expanded the ANCA's capacity to serve its CGP Fellows.
For the past few years, the ANCA has started the Fall Session in early September and the Winter session in early January. The CGPAC, comprised of CGP alumni, has been helpful in promoting the three main components of the program - three months of free housing, enrichment seminars, and mentors. Fellows are provided with three months of free housing at the ANCA Martha Aramian Armenian Cultural Center which alleviates the hardship of starting anew in DC, and the possible opportunity to remain at the House following that period.
Each session begins with a two week period of enrichment seminars (held at the ANCA) which cover the following topics - resumes, cover letters, interviewing, networking, professionalism, and “How to DC.” These seminars are presented by CGP alumni and other talented young Armenian American professionals in the DC area. Fellows are then matched with volunteer mentors who provide one-on-one counseling and assistance.

AGHET -- A Genocide [produced by NDR (German public television)] is a new award-winning documentary made by German filmmaker Eric Friedler which compellingly proves the truth of the genocide of the Armenian people. Using the actual words of 23 German, American and other nationals who witnessed the events, and armed with archival materials, AGHET expertly takes on the challenge that PM Erdogan hurled at the world by stating: »Prove it.«
AGHET incorporates never-before-seen footage and documents -- making it one of the best researched and presented documentaries on the Armenian Genocide. More than just a historic retelling of the Genocide, the film also delves into the ongoing campaign of denial that the Turkish government has mounted since these events occurred in World War I.
AGHET was debuted on NDR in April, 2010. Friedler has assembled an impeccable cast, who bring to life the original texts of German and U.S. diplomatic dispatches and eyewitness accounts, interspersed with never-before-seen footage of the Genocide and its political aftermath. The film, applauded by Nobel Prize laureate Gunter Grass, has sparked renewed debate throughout Europe. It is now being showcased around the world on television, in major film festivals and has been seen by members of the U.S. Congress.
AGHET represents a significant contribution to political and cultural awareness not only for Armenians worldwide, but also more importantly for the non-Armenian world community.

Having debuted on Horizon Armenian TV in December 2015, some four months before the 100th anniversary of the onset of the Armenian Genocide (1915 to 1923), this documentary was initially going to be a look at the life of genocide survivor Ghazaros Kademian, from his 100th birthday in 2007 to his 101st birthday in 2008...and his wish to get the United States of America to officially recognize the genocide he survived. The end result is much more.
What is being hailed as "a journalist, one-man-band masterpiece," took Los Angeles Area Emmy award-winning reporter Peter Musurlian on a journey from Los Angeles to Sacramento to Washington, D.C., and to New York City.
Musurlian, who produced, shot, wrote, edited, and narrated the film...interviewed and captured soundbites from Armenian activists, Turkish-Americans, and elected officials.
Most important, he conducted the last interview with Ghazaros Kademian.
Burbank-based columnist, Garen Yegparian, calls the 55-minute effort, "The best Armenian-themed documentary ever produced."

The California State Assembly Rules Committee on Monday cast a historic vote supporting and encouraging Artsakh's (Nagorno Karabagh) continuing efforts to develop as a free and independent nation, and urging the President and Congress of the United States to support the self-determination and democratic independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, reported the Armenian National Committee of America -- Western Region. AJR 32, introduced by Assemblymember Mike Gatto, was adopted by a vote of 9 yes, 1 no, and 1 member who did not vote and will now move to the full Assembly floor for a vote scheduled for May 8, 2014.
"We are grateful to Assemblymember Mike Gatto for introducing this important resolution calling on the state of California to take a moral stand in line with American ideals of self-determination and freedom by recognizing the independence of Artsakh," states ANCA-WR Chair, Nora Hovsepian, who offered testimony in support of the resolution at the committee hearing. "We look forward to California joining the States of Rhode Island, Maine, Massachusetts and Louisiana in supporting the righteous quest of our brethren in Artsakh for a life of peace and prosperity on their ancestral lands."
AJR 32 lead author, Assemblymember Gatto was joined by Co-Author Assemblymember Katcho Achadjian (R-CA), Assemblymembers Adrin Nazarian (D-CA), Scott Wilk (R-CA) and Cheryl Brown (D-CA) in offering testimony in support of the measure. Joining Hovsepian in testifying on behalf of California's over 1 million Armenian American community were Alina Nalbantyan, who hails from the Shahoumian region of Artsakh, and Sevak Khatchatourian from the Armenian Council of America.
The Armenian National Committee of America -- Western Region (ANCA-WR) has been instrumental in the passage of AJR 32, working closely with Assemblymember Mike Gatto and the Rules Committee to ensure a sound understanding of the facts. "It has been my privilege to work with the leaders of the local Armenian American community and their outstanding representatives on this important resolution," said Gatto. The ANCA-WR launched an action alert on this resolution and in a matter of a few days, Armenian-Americans from all parts of California contacted their representatives on the Rules Committee urging their members to vote in favor of AJR 32, in support of the Republic of Artakh's independence. More than 2,500 letters were sent to the members of the Rules Committee.
On Thursday, May 8, 2014, AJR 32 will be voted on by the full California State Assembly.
