THC Kills Glioma Cancer Cells - Medical Miracles from Europe
April 4, 2008 - Before speaking to the 5th Clinical Conference on Cannabis Therapeutics in Pacific Grove, CA, Deputy Director of NORML Paul Armentano talks about new science on Cannabis (marijuana) and the Endo-Cannabinoid system being done in Europe, while American cancer patients, many with tragic cases of Glioma brain tumors, seek any news of an alternative therapy. Paul references the work of Dr. Manuel Guzman, Madrid, who has seen THC kill brain cancer cells while leaving surrounding tissue unharmed, demonstating the neuroprotectant properties of Cannabinoids. Then Paul is joined by Dr. David Bearman, of Galeta, CA, who tells of the fear that patients feel when encountering an cancer like Glioma. Paul has collected the latest research on medical Cannabis, available in a PDF or booklet at: norml.org We also talk about Cannabis in the treatment of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and the documentary I'm doing on Cathy Jordan, a medical marijuana patient who has survived ALS for 22 years now! Waiting to Inhale
Waiting to Inhale examines the heated debate surrounding marijuana and its use as medicine in the United States. As patients demand laws to protect their right to use medical marijuana, opponents claim their argument is just a smokescreen for a different agenda— to legalize the drug altogether. How did America go from Reefer Madness mania to permitting the first clinical trials using smoked cannabis in decades? And what evidence is there that marijuana can alleviate the devastating symptoms of AIDS, cancer and multiple sclerosis? Waiting to Inhale takes the viewer from underground pot clubs to the US Supreme Court; from an Israeli scientist's laboratory to massive government approved marijuana gardens outside London. The film goes inside the lives of patients who have been forever changed by illness—and parents who have lost children to drug overdoses and believe marijuana is the culprit. Above all, Waiting to Inhale sheds new light on the controversy and presents shocking new evidence that marijuana could hold a big stake in the future of medicine. www.waitingtoinhale.org

Twelve states have passed legislation to protect patients who use medical marijuana. Yet opponents claim the medical argument is just a smokescreen for a different agenda-- to legalize marijuana for recreation and profit. What claims are being made, and what are the stakes? Waiting to Inhale takes viewers inside the lives of patients who have been forever changed by illness—and parents who lost their children to addiction. Is marijuana really a gateway drug? What evidence is there to support the claim that marijuana can alleviate some of the devastating symptoms of AIDS, cancer and multiple sclerosis? Marijuana Use Studies - A History, with Ethan Russo, MD
At Second Clinical Cannabis Therapeutics Conference in Portland, OR (2002), Dr. Ethan Russo recounts major studies on the use of marijuana by different populations. Beginning with the India Hemp Drugs Commission in 1893, Dr. Russo reports that every study came to basically the same conclusion - Society has no cause for concern regarding the effects of Cannabis use on health or crime, and in fact, it has many positives - like medicinal value, spiritual traditions and productivity. Other studies mentioned: * Panama Canal Zone Army Study (1930) * La Guardia Report ( 1943) * Shaffer Commission (1972), with data from Greece, Costa Rica, Jamaica and America. * NY Academy of Sciences (1976) * and other NIDA investigations. Dr. Russo cites a great reference book for further study: "Marijuana Myths; Marijuana Facts", by Lynn Zimmer and Dr. John Morgan. Dr. Russo also debunks the myth that today's marijuana is stronger than 1970's marijuana. Conference hosted by Patients Out of Time. DVDs are available at: www.medicalcannabis.com This video is part of a report on a Chronic Cannabis Use Study that Dr. Russo conducted on patients supplied legal marijuana by the US government.Watch the entire presentation at video.google.com

euronews focus - Taking the pulse of medical tourism in of South Korea
www.euronews.com South Korea has been making a huge effort over the past few years to develop medical tourism as one of its new growth industries. To make life easier for foreign visitors, information centres have been set up to offer advice and guidance to a growing number of foreign patients (mainly from Japan, China and Russia), who come to South Korea in search of all manner of medicinal marvels. "We help about 60 foreign patients per day, which means that there were more than 12000 in our first year of business. They ask for very diverse treatments, from cosmetic surgery to traditional medicine," explains Ki Rip Park, from a Medical Tourism Information Centre in Busan. In Seoul, business at the Jaseng Hospital of Eastern Medicine is booming. It specialises in non-surgical spine treatments and has an international clinic to accommodate its foreign patients, with translators on hand to help out. Naoko, from Japan, suffers from severe back pain and has become a regular here. She gets Chuna therapy, as well as a mixture of electric stimulation acupuncture and herbal medication. Naoko Kawaragi, a medical tourist told euronews: "Sometimes I cannot walk, I cannot stand, I cannot stretch. I started coming here two years ago. Now I come here every three months and I stay for three days. Before I couldn't even walk." Treatments combine old and new - East and West - a medical fusion that allows new treatments to develop, attracting an increasing number of Westerners along the ...

Surviving ALS # 3 - with Dr. Bob Melamede
We flash foward to 2006 to learn from Robert Melamede, PhD, Biology Professor at the University of Colorado, exactly what marijuana does for ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and other degenerative nerve diseases, like Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Dr. Melamede describes the unique role of the body's own Endo-Cannabinoid system as a "homeostatic regulator" keeping numerous body systems in balance - including the immune, digestive, reproductive, cardio-vascular and neuromuscular systems. Dr. Melamede sees the plant-based Cannabinoids in marijuana as a suppliment - to help the Endo-Cannabinoid system achive balance during biological,bio-chemical or other stresses, "The use of Cannabis has a profound effect in helping to stop nerve degeneration and helping to restore functional nerves". He also recommends Hemp Oil, rich in Omega 3 & 6 EFAs (Essential Fatty Acids), to give the body the tools it needs to achive health. Then, back to May of 2000 (14 years with ALS), at home in Parrish, Florida, Cathy Jordan demonstrates how Cannabis helps her to have a great quality of life, while she and her family enjoy her heated pool. Please visit Cathy's website: www.alsandcannabis.com For more videos & info on medical marijuana, visit www.youtube.com View an excellent presentation by Professor Melamede on the "Holistic Biochemistry of Cannabinoids" at: video.google.com from 2004 Clinical Conference on Cannabis Therapeutics, hosted by Patients Out of Time: www.medicalcannabis ...

Childhood Cancer our journey! Ewing's Sarcoma
February 1st 2007 our lives were changed forever. Our 15 year old daughter Nicolette (Nikki) was diagnosed with ewings sarcoma. For about 6 months Nikki was complaining of lower back pain off and on. The pain would go away with Motrin and sometimes be gone for a few weeks at a time so the doctor said to stop doing sit ups (she did 100 a day) and not to run on the treadmill and see what happens. Then on Feb.1st she said the pain was so bad she can't sit in the chairs at school. That morning I took her back to the doctor and she sent us for a MRI that day. A few hours later the phone rang with the doctor telling us to pack a bag and get to Children's Memorial Hospital that something was seen on the MRI. Since that day she has had several procedures, scans, MRI, and biopsy. Due to the location in her spine it is inoperable. She has completed 9 rounds of chemotherapy out of 14 all inpatient and she has just finished 31 radiation treatments. She loves shopping, listen to Bob Dylan, and horseback riding. Her older sister is her best friend and as she says her 2 younger sisters are annoying. Nikki is an inspiration to all of us with her strength and her constant negotiations with the doctor to move chemo for a week or two due to what she calls more important things. They gave in this time so she could start her Junior year but it's going to be the last time. As with all these amazing kids life has been a roller coaster this past year in and out of the hospital, low counts ...
