Amjad Farooqi (1972—September 26, 2004) (Urdu: امجد فاروقی), known by the alias Amjad Hussain (Urdu: امجد حسین), was an Islamic militant.^{[1][2][3][4][4][5][6][7]} He was born in Punjab, Pakistan, and participated in the fighting against India in Kashmir.

Farooqi allegedly was involved in the murder of Daniel Pearl, as well as conspiring with Abu Faraj al-Libbi to kill General Pervez Musharraf during the assassination attempts in Rawalpindi on December 14 and December 25, 2003. Farooqi might have been an associate of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed.^{[citation needed]}

Pakistani forces launched a massive manhunt in May 2004, which ended with Farooqi's death in a two-hour gun battle at a house in southern Sindh province.

Farooqi was a member of the Pakistani-based jihadi group Jaish-e-Mohammed (now banned), which was founded by Masood Azhar after he was released by India because of a deal with hijackers who hijacked an Indian plane in December 1999.

One of his great grandsons, Farooq Shah Kabuli, was the ruler of Kabul and Ghazni. Farooq Shah's son died fighting Hulagu Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan. The family got uprooted and most moved to the area which is now the modern day Punjab. There, one of the great grandsons Baba Farid made a name as a Sufi Saint and also travelled to Dehli Farooqui's(Ghazi) in India (Meeruth,Doraha,Jhalod,Depalpur,Mungavli). Khawja abu-alfateh Daood Farooqui Qadiri, grandfather of Mai Safoora, who migrated from Levant area to Afghanistan as merchant and later settled in riyasat of Jhang which was under the control of Nawab muzafar khan, governor of riyasat appointed by Ahmed Shah Abdali. The Farooqui clan also moved in under the Ottoman rule during the late 16th century and eventually lost their name under the title of Ghazi. They employed Sipahi under the casted families including Sayyid, Mughal, Qureshi, Shaikh, Pathan, Parmar, Ghori, Rathore, Kokwana, Bhelim, Khokhar and Soomra.
The name "Farooqi" or "Farooqui" reappeared from time to time as the Nizam family grew too large, as Farooqui was more or less of a title of reference (to Umar ibn al-Khattāb) rather than a Family name until the mid 19th century. They're official residence was Chowmahalla Palace. It later grew to Falaknuma Palace, Bashir Bagh Palace, etc., under the Jah title.

Today Farooquis are a multilingual Muslim community spread across Turkey, Romania, Pakistan, India and parts of Europe.......

Although the children of Umar ibn al-Khattāb are known as El-Umari or Al-Omery in Saudi Arabia, some Farooqis went back to Arabian Peninsula and Palestine from Today's India and Pakistan and retained the family name Al-Farooqi or Al-Farouki during the late crusades. Possibly as fighters or war profiteers.

Sharmila Farooqi (39) is a Pakistani politician who served as advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh from September 2008 - January 31, 2011.^[1][2] She is the maternal grand daughter of N M Uqaili and daughter of Usman Farooqi, who was a bureaucrat and former chairman of Pakistan Steel Mill. She is the niece of Salman Farooqi, a well-known confidante of President Asif Ali Zardari.^[3] Sharmila holds an MBA and a Master's degree in Law.^[3]

Shahid Khan (born c. 1950) is a Pakistani-born American businessman. He is the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL) and owner of automobile parts manufacturer Flex-N-Gate Corp. in Urbana, Illinois.

Early life[link]

Khan was born in Lahore, Pakistan, and moved to the United States when he was 16 to study at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.^[1][2] He said he spent his first night in a $2/night room at the Champaign YMCA and that his first job in the United States was washing dishes for $1.20 an hour. He joined the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at the school.^[3] He graduated from the UIUC School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering with a BSc in 1971.^[4][5]

Flex-N-Gate[link]

Khan worked at the automobile manufacturing company Flex-N-Gate while attending the University of Illinois. When he graduated he was hired as the engineering director for the company. In 1978, he started Bumper Works, which made car bumpers for customizing pickup trucks and body shop repairs.^[1] The transaction involved a $50,000 loan from the Small Business Loan Corporation and $16,000 in his savings.^[6]

In 1980 he bought his former employer Flex-N-Gate, bringing Bumper Works into the fold. Khan grew the company so that it supplied bumpers for the Big Three automakers. In 1984 he began supplying a small number of bumpers for Toyota pickups. By 1987 it was the sole supplier for Toyota pick ups and by 1989 it was the sole supplier for the entire Toyota line in the United States. Toyota Sensei instruction drastically transformed the company efficiency and ability to change its manufacturing process within a few minutes.^[1][7] Since then the company has grown from $17 million in sales to an estimated $2 billion in 2010.^[8]

By 2011, Flex-N-Gate had 12,450 employees and 48 manufacturing plants in the United States and several other countries, and took in $3 billion in revenue.^[2]

Khan has received a number of awards from the University of Illinois, including a Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1999 from the Department of Mechanical Science and Industrial Engineering, the Alumni Award for Distinguished Service in 2006 from the College of Engineering, and (with his wife, Ann) the Distinguished Service Award in 2005 from the University of Illinois Alumni Association.^[4]

Jacksonville Jaguars[link]

Khan's first attempt to purchase a National Football League team came in February 11, 2010, when he entered into an agreement to acquire 60 percent of the St. Louis Rams from Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez, subject to approval by other NFL owners.^[8] However, Stan Kroenke, the minority shareholder of the Rams, ultimately exercised a clause in his ownership agreement to match any proposed bid.^[9]

On November 29, 2011, Khan agreed to purchase the Jacksonville Jaguars from Wayne Weaver and his ownership group subject to NFL approval.^[10] Weaver announced his sale of the team to Khan later that same day. The terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, other than a verbal commitment to keep the team in Jacksonville, Florida. The sale was finalized on January 4, 2012.^[11] The purchase price for 100% share in the Jaguars is estimated to be $760 million.^[12] The NFL owners unanimously approved the purchase on December 14, 2011.^[13] The sale made Khan the first member of an ethnic minority ever to own an NFL team.^{[14] [15]}

Israr Ahmad (December 19, 1940 – April 2, 2010) was an Indian theoretical nuclear physicist and professor at Aligarh Muslim University since 1961. He was known for his work in quantum scattering theory.

He was an associate member of the International Center for Theoretical Physics located in Trieste (Italy), a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, and the Indian Physics Association. He was Founding Director of the Center for Promotion of Science at the Aligarh Muslim University from its inception in 1985 to 1991, and Chairman of its Department of Physics from 1988 to 1991. He was editor of the monthly Urdu journal Tahzibul Akhlaq of Aligarh Muslim University from June 1986 to 1990. In addition, he had served as professor at King Abdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia. He was married to Mahe Laka (daughter of Dr. Qammrudeen).^[1][2]

Centre for Promotion of Science (CPS)[link]

Apart from his scientific work, Ahmad was keen in spreading the message of Islamic reformer Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. He was one of the strong supporters of the Aligarh Movement and revived the mission of Sir Syed to promote modern education, especially science, among oriental students and seminaries. To achieve this, with the support of Dr. Abdus Salam, he established the Centre for Promotion of Science (CPS) at AMU Aligarh in 1985, and was appointed as Founder Director of the center.

The center played a key role as a bridge between the Madrasah and a modern institution. It organized several refresher courses, seminars, series of lectures for Madrasah students and seminaries. In these, Ahmad organized a number of conferences on 'Religious Seminaries and Science Education', and conducted several introductory science courses for the teachers of Muslim religious seminaries. He established an independent office of CPS next to the Department of Physics and Dean Faculty of Science. He served CPS until 1991 and handed over his post to his student Dr. Abdul Qayum.

In 1864 Sir Syed Ahmed Khan started the Urdu journal Tahzibul Akhlaq to spread awareness of contemporary socio-economic and educational developments in the Muslim community. Tahzibul Akhlaq was discontinued in 1881, but 100 years later, his ardent supporter, the then Vice-Chancellor Syed Hamid, revived it in 1981. Ahmad took an interest in the project and its promotion and was appointed its editor in June 1986, taking over this position from Prof. Noorul Hasan Naqvi. He played a key role in making Tahzibul Akhlaq a viable journal. As a science fiction writer in Hindi, Urdu, and English, Ahmad wrote several articles in different journals. He served as the editor of Tahzibul Akhlaq until 1990, when he handed over the post to Prof. Kabir Ahmad Jaisi.

Death[link]

Ahmad died on 2 April 2010 at Holy Family Hospital in New Delhi. His body was brought to Aligarh and was buried at the Aligarh Muslim University graveyard. He left behind a family which including his wife, sons Shahid Israr and Khalid Israr, and daughters Sabiha Alvi and Subia Wahid.
