Islam: The Empire Strikes Back
Beginning in Arabia, Islam grew into a vast religion spreading across the globe. At its start in 610 C.E., Muhammad, the leader of Islam, began having mystical visits from the archangel, Gabriel, explaining the necessity of the preaching of the one true god, Allah, as shown in this video. And so, Islam was created. Within 100 years of the creation of Islam, major expansion had taken place.
Though, the death of Muhammad caused major conflict between Muslims; does the next leader need to be a descendant of Muhammad or simply the person best able to lead the community. A competition between Abu Bakr, a close friend of Muhammad, and Ali, Muhammad’s relative, flared. Eventually, Abu Bakr was appointed, ruling from 632-634 C.E. A summary of the achievements of his ruling include the confirmation of the Five Pillars, the unification of Muslim Arabs, and the expansion of the Muslim community. This rule began to upset Ali, eventually causing the split between Sunnis and Shias.
Abu Bakr selected a successor, Umar, who ruled from 634-644 C.E. Umar, as well, expanded the Muslim community, defined the Dar al Islam (places where Islam is routed in society), gave more structure to the government, and chose a comity to decide the next Caliph. The race began between Uthman and Ali, and Ali was overthrown. Uthman ruled from 644-656 C.E., and used similar tactics to Umar. During his reign, financial problems caused revolts, leading to his death.
Meanwhile, Ali and the Umayyad leader, Mu’awiya, fight for the role as Caliphate. A third party is chosen to decide the verdict which is that both should resign. When both refuse, the Karijites (Islamic faction) attempt to kill both, but only succeed in killing Ali. Therefore, Mu’awiya takes over, causing the main split between Sunnis and Shias.
As stated in the video, the Sunnis are the acceptors of Mu’awiya, believing that the caliph should be a devout Muslim even if he is not related to Muhammad. On the other hand, the Shia are Ali’s supporters who believe that the caliph should be a direct descendant of Muhammad.
With Mu’awiya in control, the Umayyad dynasty (661-750 C.E.) takes control, spreading Muslim rule from Spain to central Asia. The Umayyads moved the capital to Damascus, created a tax system, made coinage uniform throughout the empire, established innovative architecture such as mosques and canals, but eventually wars over succession caused the major downfall of the Umayyad dynasty.
While being taken over by a different clan, the Abbasids (750-1258 C.E.), the Umayyad leader escapes to Spain and sets up an empire there. The Abbasids move the capital to Baghdad, becoming a crossroad for land and water trade. The achievements of the Abbasid dynasty include a code of law (Shari’ah), a sophisticated banking system, new libraries and universities, development in translation, medicine, astronomy, math, chemistry, and advanced navigation and sailing techniques. Eventually, the Abbasid dynasty fell due to the inability to maintain complete control over the entire Muslim empire and separated into independent states.
Meanwhile, Muslim Spain (where the Umayyads take over), known as Al-Andalus, became a thriving dynasty, consisting of tolerance and distinct Umayyad culture as shown in the video, including authentic artwork and glorious architecture such as the Great Mosque of Córdoba. Sadly, the Spanish Inquisition (1492 C.E.) ends the glory age of Spain, as the Christians gain control and expel all Jews and Muslims, crumbling the Muslim empire.

COPA DEL MUNDO DE ATLETISMO.SEVILLA99
Seville is more than 2,000 years old. The passage of the various people instrumental in its growth has left the city with a distinct personality, and a large and well-preserved historical centre.
The city was known from Roman times as Hispalis. The nearby Roman city of Italica is well-preserved and gives an impression of how Hispalis may have looked in the later Roman period. Existing Roman features in Seville include the remnants of an aqueduct.
After successive conquests of the Roman province of Hispania Baetica by the Vandals and Visigoths, in the 5th and 6th centuries, the city was taken by the Moors in 712 and became an important centre in Muslim Andalusia. It remained under Muslim control, under the authority of the Umayyad, Almoravid and Almohad dynasties, until falling to Fernando III in 1248. The city retains many Moorish features, including large sections of the city wall.
Following the Reconquest, the city's development continued, with the construction of public buildings including churches, many in Mudéjar style. Later, the city experienced another golden age of development brought about by wealth accumulating from the awarding of a monopoly of trade with the Spanish territories in the New World (See Winds in the Age of Sail). After the silting up of the Guadalquivir, the city went into relative economic decline.
Seville's development in the 19th and 20th centuries was characterised by population growth and increasing industrialisation.
Seville fell very quickly to General Franco's troops near the beginning of the Spanish Civil War in 1936 due to its proximity to the invasion force coming from Morocco. After the initial takeover of the city, resistance continued amongst the working class areas for some time, until a series of fierce reprisals took place.[1][2]
Main city sights
Monuments
Seville city's cathedral was built from 1401–1519 after the Reconquista on the former site of the city's mosque. It is amongst the largest of all medieval and Gothic cathedrals, in terms of both area and volume. The interior is the longest nave in Spain, and is lavishly decorated, with a large quantity of gold evident. The Cathedral reused some columns and elements from the mosque, and, most famously, the Giralda, originally a minaret, was converted into a bell tower. It is topped with a statue, known locally as El Giraldillo, representing Faith. The tower's interior was built with ramps rather than stairs, to allow the Muezzin and others to ride on horseback to the top.
Torre del Oro
The Alcázar facing the cathedral has developed from the city's old Moorish Palace; construction was begun in 1181 and continued for over 500 years, mainly in Mudéjar style, but also in Renaissance. Its gardens are a blend of Moorish, Andalusian, and Christian traditions.
The Torre del Oro was built by the Almohad dynasty as watchtower and defensive barrier on the river. A chain was strung through the water from the base of the tower to prevent boats from traveling into the river port.
The Town Hall, built in the 16th century in Plateresque Style by Diego de Riaño. The Façade to Plaza Nueva was built in the 19th century in Neoclassical style.
The University of Seville is housed in the original site of the first tobacco factory in Europe, La Antigua Fabrica de Tabacos, a vast 18th century building in Baroque style.
The Plaza de España was built by the architect Aníbal González for the 1929 Exposición Ibero-Americana, and is an outstanding example of Regionalist Architecture, a bizarre and lofty mixture of diverse historic styles and lavishly ornated with typical glazed tiles.
Museums
The Fine Arts Museum of Seville is considerated the second museum of spanish art of Spain, it was established as a "Museum to display paintings", in 1835, with objects from convents and monasteries. It is located in the Plaza del Museo.
Parks and gardens
Parque Maria Luisa was built for the 1929 Exposición Ibero-Americana World's Fair, and remains landscaped with attractive monuments and museums.
The Alcázar Gardens, arranged to the back of the palace. They were planted and developed alongside the Alcázar throughout the centuries. Sheltered within the walls of the palace, they are laid out in terraces, and present variations of influences, styles and plants in each sector.
The Gardens of Murillo and the Gardens of Catalina de Ribera: alongside the wall of the Alcázar and next to the district of Santa Cruz.
La Isla Magica, Cartuja Island, a theme park built on the site of the 1992 Universal Exposition of Seville

Masjid Al-Nabawi Rev. 2. Medinah, Saudi Arabia, 12-11-10 - YouTube
Uploaded to Vimeo September 3, 20012
Islam is the fastest growing religion and consequently this religion has largest followers on this planet. At this date the Muslim population is about 2.1 billion human beings.
The video and chant calling the Muslim faithful to prayer are quite different from what Westerners and non Muslims usually are used to or watch and hear on YouTube. Please keep an open mind as you watch this video and do not believe all what negative things we are being bombarded with by the Media , Governments and the Zionist detractors and their supporters about the Muslim Religion. Muslims are human beings just like we are and have an amazing history.
I hope that you will like the YouTube "Video" which I created of the Masjid Al-Nabawi, (The Prophet Mohammad's Mosque and Tomb) in Medinah, Saudi Arabia.
I would especially like the poor and the sick Muslims, men, women and children in many parts of the worlds who cannot make the pilgrimage to Medinah and Mecca and the Palestinian Muslims, whose lands are occupied by Zionist Israel and who are not allowed by the Israeli's to travel or if they do so they are usually not allowed to return to their ancestral homes, to somehow be able to view this slideshow “video“ of the beautiful Masjid Al-Nabawi, their Prophets Mosque the second holiest Muslim Mosque, in Medinah, Saudi Arabia.
I want non-Muslims in the World to view this “video “ of the beautiful second holiest Muslim Mosque,The Prophets Mosque in Medinah, Saudi Arabia. Perhaps they will begin to understand a bit better about the greatness of Islam as a religion and its Hajj (Pilgrimage), to Mecca and Medinah, the two Holy Muslim cities in Saudi Arabia and its once great most long lived Arab Muslim Empire from about 638 AD (see further on below). The Third holiest city for Muslim is Jerusalem, Palestine, the city where I was born, with its beautiful Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Golden Dome of the Rock.
Perhaps it may inspire non-Muslims to seek more knowledge about Islam which is an extension of Judaism and Christianity whose ideas and doctrines the Prophet Mohammad adopted freely and which are in the Quoran ( Koran) their Holy Book. Perhaps they will seek more knowledge about Islam and its adherent's amazing history and culture and stop this unwarranted demonizing of Islam especially here in America and England and other parts of Europe. The Muslim religion and the Quoran recognize Christians and Jews as the People of the Book the Torah and the Bible. Muslims do recognize and respect Jesus (Jasuu in Arabic) as a very great Prophet.
I am working on creating a YouTube "Video" of the First Holy City of Islam, Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Mecca is a closed city and only Muslims are allowed to enter it. That bothers some non-Muslim people. I feel that it is their Holy City, their Religion and we must respect their about 1380 year old restriction. I never had a problem with that . When I was in Saudi Arabia I was treated very well and courteously. I was allowed close to the Holy City of Mecca but not allowed to enter it. The Prophet Mohammad is buried in Medinah in the Masjid Al-Nabawi with two other great early Muslim leaders, Abu Bakr (first caliph and the father of Muhammad's wife, Aisha), and of Umar (Umar ibn Al-Khattab), the Second Caliph. The outskirts of Medinah and the Medina Airport, are open to all. Non-Muslims are strictly prohibited from entering Central Medina. Some hotels are for Muslims only. I have no problem with that.
A bit of Muslim history may be in order here.
Islam, the longest lived of any empire, the Arab Empire of Faith, existed for about 857 years after the Prophet Mohammad died in 632 AD in Medina, Arabia. Islam would become the revitalizing force of a barbaric ancient Arabia returning people to God and bringing back the monotheistic message of Christianity and Judaism in its most powerful way. Muslim Women were given rights over their husbands, racism was annihilated and the rich were made equal to the poor.
During its Golden Years to about 1518 AD, for about 856 years the Great Muslim Empire stretched from the African shores of the Atlantic Ocean to China and India, a 200 days journey. While Europe was in the Dark Ages, the Arab Muslim Empire flourished as great works of architecture were built, reading and writing, mathematics, medicine, and astronomy to name a few blossomed. Even before the printing press Muslims would have hundreds of scribes writing all at once so they would learn and reproduce the writings.
The conquering Ottoman Turks adopted Islam shortly after about 1518 AD and ruled for 400 years more as Muslims until 1918. History of Islam http://www.barkati.net/english/,
The Muslim Conquests http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_conquests
Before there was the modern so called pariah "state" of Israel, there was great peace in the Holy Land of Palestine. First under the Muslim Arabs after they conquered the L
