Spending time in Prague can be made more adventurous by participating in various activities. The city offers some of the best activities that will make your stay more memorable. Activities are held throughout the year but reservations in advance are required.

There are also various spectator sports which are very popular with the locals, such as football, horse racing, ice hockey and tennis.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Clay Pigeon shooting is a thrilling and competitive event. It is a perfect game for all teenagers as well as the older generation, but it needs calm concentration, perfect aim time and an intense eye. You obtain 25 pigeons targets which pop up from underground pits and are started with voice commands. The activity is held for around 3 hours long and is a 45 minutes drive north of Prague. A maximum of 6 people can participate in the Prague shooting Clay Pigeon activity.

Football

Football (Soccer) is a very popular spectator sport in Prague and national league games are featured in the city’s two major stadiums.

Slavia Praha and Sparta Praha are the two main teams in Prague contending for the national league title. Other smaller teams are FC Bohemians and FK Viktoria Zizkov. The football season runs throughout the year apart from July and January. Games are mostly played on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday afternoons.

Stadiums:

AC Sparta Praha Stadium – This is the Toyota Arena, the home ground of Sparta Praha who have won the national league numerous times. It is also used for big international matches.

SK Slavia Praha Stadium – This is one of the oldest stadiums in continental Europe and is a member of England’s Football Association. Its red and white strip design has remained unchanged since 1896.

Golf

Many visitors as well as locals enjoy a relaxing game of golf. Prague is home to three main golf clubs which are well equipped for professional games.

Golf Club Praha, Tel. 257 216 584 – This is in the western suburbs of Prague and features one nine hole golf course. Clubs are also available for hire.

Golf and Country Club, Tel. 244 460 435 – Situated on the southern edge of Prague, this features one nine hole course, chipping and putting greens, and a driving range.

Karlstejn Golf Course, Tel. 311 604 999 – This is located southwest of Prague and is the nearest 18-hole course.

Horse Racing

Prague Racecourse is on the southern side of the city. The horse racing season begins from April to October, on Sundays only. There are buses’ which go directly to the venue from Prague’s city centre.

Ice Hockey

This is another popular spectator sport, no surprise here as the Czech national team have won the championship eleven times, most recently in 2005. They also took Olympic Gold in 1998.

Prague’s two main teams are HC Slavia Praha and HC Sparta Praha. Sazka Arena is the home rink for Slavia Praha and also hosts other major events because of its large capacity. The T-Mobile Arena is Sparta Praha’s home rink and it is considerably smaller with a capacity of only 13,000.

Paintball

Paintballing is a new sport that takes place on the playground of Prague Island, named Cisarska louka. It is a game of attacking and defending flags of two teams. Flags are assigned to both teams and the game is over only when any one of the team captures the opposite team’s flag. This game is held under the old mythological Vysehrad Fortress near the city centre but makes use of mainly modern guns and equipment which makes it more adventurous.

Range Shooting

Range shooting is a great indoor activity allowing you to experience shooting from a pistol, rifle, shot gun or revolver. It begins with basic training about how to use weapons and then shoot in the air-conditioned range with the best licensed professional guides. Various weapons can be used, like the 44 Magnum revolver, browning 22 pistol, pump - action shot gun, HK USP.45, and the 22 Margolin pistol.

Skating

This is a very popular activity especially for the locals. In the summer many people enjoy roller skating in the parks, whilst during the winter some areas are frozen over and people can ice skate. Stvanice Stadium is the oldest indoor ice hockey stadium in central Europe. It offers skating sessions for the public, as well as hosting ice hockey games.

Tennis & Squash

These activities are well appreciated by the locals and even visitors who want to take a break from sight-seeing. The Czech Lawn Tennis Club is the most prestigious tennis venue in the Czech Republic being the oldest (since 1893). It accommodates around 8000 people and hosts the annual Prague Open tournament in May.

At the Esquo Squashcentrum, squash courts are available for rent. This costs around 135kc - 300kc depending on the time. It is important to make reservations early as the courts tend to fill up quickly.
