Republicans hold on Hagel's nomination
The Senate vote for President Obama's defense secretary pick was filibustered on Wednesday by Republican lawmakers. Now it looks like the vote on Chuck Hagel's nomination will happen on Friday, and it's the first time a defense secretary nomination has been filibustered. To discuss it with us, Jake Diliberto, a political researcher at the University of Birmingham and a former Marine, joins us from the UK. Republican Attack Ad On...Ashley Judd?? (Video)
"Karl Rove's American Crossroads is spending $10000 on an online ad taking aim at actress Ashley Judd's political views -- the latest sign that her possible challenge to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is one Republicans take seriously. The ad, released Wednesday and called "Ashley's Story," highlights clips of the actress professing her support for Obama and his health care plan, and quotes a Daily Caller story where her grandmother called her a "Hollywood liberal."* Karl Rove and the Republicans are running scared, so they're launching an attack campaign on actress Ashley Judd. She has no political career in her history, but she still poses a huge threat to GOP power in elections 2 years from now. Why? Cenk Uygur breaks it down. *Read more from Ariel Edwards-Levy/ Huffington Post: www.huffingtonpost.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: bit.ly Buy TYT Merch: theyoungturks.spreadshirt.com

Weekly Republican Address 2/2/13: Rep. Susan Brooks (R-IN)
In this week's address, Congresswoman Susan Brooks (R-IN) gives an update on our efforts to get our economy moving again and the importance of having a budget. "Each of the last two years, the Republican-led House has passed a responsible budget that addresses what's driving our debt in order to put our country on a path to prosperity," she says. "Unfortunately, it's been nearly four years since Senate Democrats last passed a budget -- 1375 days to be exact." It's time for the president and Senate Democrats to produce a serious budget and join us in tackling our nation's spending problem.

Republican Against Voter Fraud Arrested for Voter Fraud
"A Nevada Republican arrested for voter fraud in the 2012 election, after claiming she was trying to test the system's integrity, pled guilty and accepted a plea deal Thursday, forcing her to pay almost $2500 and promise to stay out of trouble. Roxanne Rubin, 56, a casino worker on the Las Vegas Strip, was arrested on Nov. 3, 2012 after trying to vote twice, once at her poling site in Henderson and then at a second site in Las Vegas. The poll workers at the second site said that she had already voted, but Rubin said that she hadn't and insisted on casting a ballot, which the poll workers refused to allow her to do."* *Read more from Luke Johnson/ Huffington Post: www.huffingtonpost.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: bit.ly Buy TYT Merch: theyoungturks.spreadshirt.com

Of Course! Republicans Filibuster Obama's Defense Nom
We knew most of this last night, but finally, today, Republicans are going on record to promise that they have—for now—41 votes against the cloture vote to move ahead Chuck Hagel's nomination. The best, least sensationalized take comes from Jon Karl. And, as of right now, top Senate Democratic aides say they fear they don't have the votes. Ultimately, it would seem that Hagel is a shoe-in: All 55 Senate Democrats support him and so do two Republicans (Sens. Mike Johanns of Nebraska and Thad Cochran of Mississippi). Three others have suggested they might oppose him but would not filibuster his nomination."* Republicans have filibustered Chuck Hagel. It's unprecedented, but the GOP refuses to call the move a filibuster. Why are they doing this? What do they think blocking and revoting will achieve? Cenk Uygur breaks it down. *Read more from David Weigel/ Slate: www.slate.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: bit.ly Buy TYT Merch: theyoungturks.spreadshirt.com

Debt Ceiling Caves in on Republicans
"Avoiding an economic showdown with President Obama, the House on Wednesday passed legislation to eliminate the nation's statutory borrowing limit until May, without including the dollar-for-dollar spending cuts that Republicans once insisted would have to be part of any debt limit bill."* House Republicans have had a rare cave-in on the debt ceiling, putting off the fight for the budget and government funding for a little longer. Could this be a strategy to get leverage? Cenk Uygur explains what the real motivation is, and where Wall Street fits in. *Read more from Jonathan Weisman/ New York Times: www.nytimes.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: bit.ly Buy TYT Merch: theyoungturks.spreadshirt.com

Republicans' Electoral College Scheme - Can a Dem Win?
"Republicans in Virginia and a handful of other battleground states are pushing for far-reaching changes to the electoral college in an attempt to counter recent success by Democrats. In the vast majority of states, the presidential candidate who wins receives all of that state's electoral votes. The proposed changes would instead apportion electoral votes by congressional district, a setup far more favorable to Republicans. Under such a system in Virginia, for instance, President Obama would have claimed four of the state's 13 electoral votes in the 2012 election, rather than all of them."* Proposed changes to the electoral college system would definitely favor Republicans in presidential elections. In fact, with the changes, it's unlikely a democrat could be elected again. Why? John Iadarola (TYT University), Desi Doyen (Green News Report), and Lissette Padlla (The Lip TV) break it down. *Read more from Nia-Malika Henderson and Errin Haines/ Washington Post: www.washingtonpost.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: bit.ly Buy TYT Merch: theyoungturks.spreadshirt.com

"You Don't Own Me" PSA
Women constitute more than half of the population. In 2008, 60% of voters were women. It is estimated that 10 million more women than men will vote in this election. Despite this, women make up only 16% of Congress. Women earn only 70 cents to each dollar men make. Women of color and undocumented women make less than white citizens. Mitt Romney and the Republican Party are determined to overturn Roe V. Wade. Romney has not supported equal pay for women (The Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act). Romney has vowed to defund Planned Parenthood. Romney has vowed to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Romney doesn't want health care to cover birth control. Romney says same sex marriage should be banned with a Constitutional Amendment.
Women, let's rise up. Our vote alone can win this election. A vote for Obama is a vote for your health and your right to choose. It is a vote for equal pay and equal rights. A vote for Obama is a vote for our families. It is a vote to marry who you choose. It's a vote to start a family when you choose. A vote for Obama says that we won't stand for violence against women and that rape is rape. Our vote ensures that our daughters will grow up with the same rights that we've had. A vote for Obama sends a message: This war on women must end. We will not go backwards.
This election is shockingly close. Our safety is at stake. Our silence is consent and our vote is our voice. Let’s get active. Let’s get out every vote we can. Let’s make this election a mandate. A mandate to finally ensure women the respect, dignity and equality we all deserve! This is now. This is our call to action. Once and for all, let's take back the power that is so inherently and naturally ours!

Grand Old Party
From the catalogue (available at http://mepler.com)
Dear Voter,
Whether you’re Democrat or Republican, you’ve probably grown
weary of the endless circus that is the electoral process. It is painful.
But it shouldn’t be that way. As a member of a free democratic state
you should feel exhilarating pleasure when exercising your right to
choose your leader.
Grand Old Party demonstrates that as a people united, our opinion
has real volume. When we approve of a candidate, they swell with
power. When we deem them unworthy, they are diminished and left
hanging in the wind. We guard the gate! It opens and closes at our
will. How wide is up to us.
In an age of information, we rely on hard facts. Each of the shapes
you see here come directly from poll data collected by Gallup. This
data reects approval ratings for each GOP candidate among registered
Republican voters from December 10, 2011 to April 1, 2012.
Each shape’s girth is a reflection of popularity while their height is a
reflection of time.
The contours of these delightful shapes conjure up the waves of
amber grain and those lapping at the rim of our great nation spanning
from sea to shining sea. As the battle for the Presidency rails
on, we must remember that Americans may may have achieved
freedom through war, but they are also a people of love. After all, in
the end all we have is each other.

Republicans are outraged over President Obama's Second Quadrennial Inaugural Address because it's liberal. Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS even made an ad making the case. Marco Rubio Delivers The Republican Response
US Sen. Marco Rubio immediately followed his rebuttal to the president's State of the Union address Tuesday night by releasing a "school-choice" bill to allow taxpayers to subsidize private-school education for poor kids. By putting legislation where his mouth is, Rubio wanted to reinforce the theme of his speech — that conservative policy is good for the poor and working class. The legislation, which revolves around tax credits, also makes good on a 2010 Rubio campaign pledge, and reinforces his strong ties to former Republican Gov. Jeb Bush, his friend and mentor whose nonprofit education foundation helped shape the legislation. Bush passed a similar school-choice voucher program in 2001, which Rubio voted for while he served in the Florida House. If Florida's experience is any measure, though, Democrats, teacher unions and some church-and-state separatists will oppose the scholarship-voucher program, saying it indirectly uses tax money to fund private, and often religious education. "It's not about unions. It's not about school administrators," Rubio said in an interview. "This is about parents. The only parents in America who don't have a choice where their kids go to school are poor parents." Though Rubio's rhetoric adopts longstanding Democratic talking points about the disadvantaged, the legislation will have a tough time in the Democratic-controlled US Senate. Across the nation, Democrats and teacher unions have faced off with Bush and his nonprofit foundation as ...
