Raageshwari Loomba (born 25 July 1977) is an Indian pop singer, actress, model, television anchor, former MTV and Chanel V VJ a Yoga expert and a motivational speaker. She also entered in the fifth season of the reality television show Bigg Boss and was named 'Positive Raaga and the messenger of peace'.

Biography[link]

Raageshwari was born in Mumbai to Trilok Singh Loomba, a National Award winning musician and government servant, and his wife Veera. She has an elder brother, Rishabh who is a filmmaker. The Sanskrit word Raageshwari means 'the goddess of Ragas' and 'wife of the Lord'.^{[citation needed]}

Raageshwari attended the Auxilium Convent High School.^[1] As a child model, she did the rounds of several advertising agencies with her father. At the age of 13, she was noticed by director Shekhar Kapoor, and auditioned at a photo shoot for the lead role opposite Bobby Deol, but did not secure the part.^[2] As a teenager, Raageshwari signed her first film as an actor, Zid (released in 1994). She took a month off from school to complete the shooting, but managed to secure a distinction in her Class X exams. She then acted in hit films, including David Dhawan's Aankhen (1993) and Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994).

Later, Raageshwari forayed into television, acting as VJ for the popular countdown shows, BPL Oye. In a later version of the show, she also wrote her own scripts and won innumerable awards. She was given the nickname "Ragz", while working on BPL Oye with Sunil Sahjwani and his team. She was an instant hit with teenagers and young kids.

She then decided to launch herself as a musician. She recorded a scratch demo of the song Ta Ta Ra Ri Ra Ra (later the title song of her first album, Duniya), and did the rounds of music companies. However, she faced rejection from the music companies. She and her brother Rishabh then decided to go ahead and shoot the music video in Maldives. The music video became very popular and launched Raageshwari's singing career. It was followed by another video, titled Oye shava. The album went platinum in just a month after its release. Raageshwari then signed a deal with Coca-Cola to do a series of concerts all over India.^[3]

In 1998, Raageshwari released her second album, Pyar Ke Rang, in collaboration with her father and brother. The video for the title track was a spin-off on the character of Aida from Giuseppe Verdi's opera, with Raageshwari switching between the characters of Aida and a college girl. The second music video, for the song Mere Mehboob, depicted her as a young woman separated from her lover. At this point, Raageshwari also began touring the world with her dance troupe.

In 2000, Raageshwari and her father collaborated on another album, Y2K Saal Do Hazaar. Raageshwari was suffering from malaria, while shooting for the video Ikki chikki chikita. The album was released with a concert on the eve of the year 2000. Just a week after the concert, Raageshwari was diagnosed with Bell's palsy,^[4] which left her with a paralyzed left side of the face and a slur in her voice. Over the next year, she rehabilitated herself with help of physiotherapy, electrical stimulation and yoga. She did television shows such as Ek do teen and Baar baar dekho on MTV, Kuch Kehti Hai Yeh Dhun on Sony, Quest for BBC and One on One With Raageshwari on TEN Sports. She then came back with an album in 2006, 'Sagari Rayn' which is a fusion world music album. Her video for the same created quite a stir as it was lavishly shot in 'The Sultanate of Oman' by her brother Rishabh Loomba. The video was the first in Indian History to have released in Cinema theatres all over.

‘5 Ancient Tibetan Rites’ DVD - The Secrets to eternal Youth.[link]

Raageshwari has just released her DVD dedicated to health and wellness called ‘5 Ancient Tibetan Rites’ for people of all age groups. The Five Rites are an ancient set of yogic practices which are predominantly used by Tibetan monks. They are magical practises for retaining youth and to fill one with a dynamic energy. These potent rites were formulated over 2500 years ago by the monks, and were first revealed to the world by a retired British army officer who went high into the Himalayas to learn the rites from the monks. Subsequently, a book called the Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth was published by Peter Kelder. The DVD showcases how to do the rites in a simple and harmonious manner. In essence they slow down the ageing process and fill one with a vibrant young-looking energy. Raageshwari has been a loyal supporter of the 'Terry Fox Run' which aids in generating funds for Cancer research. Raageshwari is the brand ambassador for 'India Deaf Expo'. An organization for the welfare and education of the Hearing impaired. She is a member & supporter of 'PALS' (Plants & Animal Lover's Society) Raageshwari to support the cause of stray animals in India, had adopted a stray dog (Harpo 2007–present). Raageshwari to promote a green eco-friendly Earth had recorded a song on global warming 'We are together'. Raageshwari is the brand ambassador of the 'Dance with Joy' festival which holds concerts in aid of street children and lately autistic of Mumbai. Raageshwari is now the brand ambassador of the Mumbai Aids Control Society and 'Shakti' Clinics which offer free testing and counseling for AIDS patients. Sandhya Mridul (born 28 March 1975) is an Indian actress who appears in Bollywood films and television, most known for her roles in films like, movies like Saathiya (2002) and Page 3 (2005), and was first runners up in reality dance show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Season 2) (2007).

Personal life and education[link]

Mridul, also called 'Sandy', was born in Mumbai to Advocate P. R. Mridul and his wife. Later, the family moved to New Delhi. At age Ten, she left home to attend school at Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ Public School in Jaipur. At age 14, her father, a lawyer by profession and later a judge of the high court, died and she was brought up by her elder brother Justice Siddharth Mridul who is a sitting judge of Delhi High Court. She also has another elder brother named Pankaj.^[1][2]

She graduated in Mathematics, did her post graduation in marketing and went on to do a corporate job with KLM in Mumbai.^[3]

She first arrived back in Mumbai to be a marketing executive. Mridul first started her career with the popular TV serial Swabhimaan. After that, additional roles followed in serials like Banegi Apni Baat, Koshish and Hu Ba Hu.

She made her breakthrough in films with Yash Raj Films, in Saathiya in 2002. The film was critically and commercially successful and critics appreciated her performance. Her character Dina was an important supporting role that got her noticed.

She also appeared in Extraa Innings, the programme during the Cricket World Cup 2003.

In 2004, she acted in Pratap Sharma's "Zen Katha", a play based on the life of Buddha in Mumbai opposite Rajeev Gopalkrishnan.

Her show, Koshish Ek Asha in which she played the role of the female protagonist has been dubbed in Chinese and in the year 2005, it was telecast in China. Through this show, Sandhya became a household name in China by 2005.

She decided to walk away from Television soap Operas because the roles felt repetitive. Of her decision to quit TV, she remarked, "If you want to play the protagonist these days, you have to be the bahu. I’m not ready to do that again. I can’t be wearing heavy saris with dark pink lipstick all my life." ^[4]

In 2005 she starred in Page 3 with Konkona Sen Sharma and Tara Sharma. She played an air hostess in the film. Her performance was again praised by the critics and the film was a hit at the box office.

Since 2006, she has focused exclusively on film roles. She played Maya, a restless soul who keeps on moving in and out of things in an off-beat film called Strings. She also acted 13th Floor which is an interesting story of two people stuck in the 13th floor of a lift. As a trained Bharatnatyam dancer, Sandhya's desire to show her dancing skills is also being fulfilled in the film Chowki. In Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd., she plays a wife stuck in a marriage with a gay man. In the thriller Deadline: Sirf 24 Ghante by Tanvir Khan, she acts with Irfan Khan. In The Great Indian Butterfly, she shows her talent again in this movie, how a young Indian couple climbing the ladder of the corporate rate race in a nation.

Her versatility and her penchant for taking non-conformist roles have made her a darling of cross-over films. She proved her talent again in another off-beat film called Via Darjeeling in which she plays an alcoholic. "I would like to step into the shoes that Smita Patil left behind", says Mridul about where she sees herself in the Bollywood acting space.^[5]

She has also been judged the runners-up at the popular dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Season 2). This decision did court some controversy since one of the judges, Urmila Matondkar declared that Mridul should have won.^[6] There were also allegations of rigging and interference on the decision to declare Prachi the winner of the show. Mridul said of the decision, "Don't tell me that I lost. Like I have said before, you lose only when you lose heart, and I haven't. I may have only lost out on a trophy and cash but I have won many hearts."^[7]

In 2008, she served as a member of the jury in the 14th Television Festival held in Shanghai. She was youngest and lone Indian in the festival.^[8]

Kavita Seth (born 1970) is an Indian singer, who is most known as a playback singer in Hindi cinema, as well as a performer of Ghazals and Sufi music, and has formed her musical group, Karwaan Group, a band of Sufi musicians ^[1][2]

She won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2010 for her classical Sufi rendition "Gunja Sa Koi Iktara" for the film Wake Up Sid (2009),^[3] she also won the Star Screen Award for Best Female Playback for the same song, which was one of the biggest chartbusters in 2009.^[4][5]

Early life[link]

Born in Bareily, Uttar Pradesh,^[4] where was and brought up and did her schooling as well as her graduation.

After her marriage she moved to Delhi, where she started performing for All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan. Meanwhile she also did her post graduation in Music, Sangeet Alankar from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Delhi and received M.A. degree in Hindi literature from the University of Delhi.

She received her musical training in Hindustani classical music under N.D.Sharma of Gwalior Gharana, Vinod from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, and Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan of the Delhi Gharana.^[2][4]

She first started performing at the Khan-kahe Niyazia Dargah, in Bareilly, which soon lead singing in public shows and musical concerts.

Kavita specializes in Sufi-style singing though she also sings geet, ghazal and folk songs. Over the years she has performed at live shows at London, Birmingham, Scotland, Berlin, Oslo and Stockholm and places across India. It was at one of her performance at Muzaffar Ali's International Sufi Festival concert, in Delhi that director Satish Kaushik heard her and offered a song "Zindagi ko Maula", in his film, the Amisha Patel starrer, Vaada (2005), marking her debut as a playback singer.^[1][6] Subsequently she moved to Mumbai, as this was followed by, "Mujhe Mat Roko" in Anurag Basu's Gangster (2006), for which she received rave reviews.^[7]

Besides singing she also composes music. She has composed three songs in N. Chandra's film "Yeh Mera India" (2009).^[8] She has also released private albums, including, Woh Ek Lamha, Dil-e-Nadan both Sufi ghazal albums, followed by Sufi music albums, Sufiana (2008) and Hazrat. Her 2008 album Sufiana, composed of couplets of Sufi poet-mystic, Rumi was released at the 800-year-old Khaman Pir Ka Dargah in Lucknow.^[9][10]

Pooja Bedi was born in Mumbai to the late Indian classical dancer Protima and film star Kabir Bedi. She was brought up in what she calls a bohemian progressive artistic environment. ^[1] She received her basic education at Besant Montessori in Mumbai and then at Lawrence School, Sanawar. Bedi married Farhan Ebrahim whom she met in 1990.^[1] She has two children, a daughter Aalia born in 1997 and a son Omar, born in 2000. Bedi and Ebrahim divorced in 2003. From 1991 to 1994, Bedi worked in Bollywood films, has appeared in many commercials and campaigns. She is remembered for the Kama Sutra condom campaign which she endorsed and used as a vehicle to raise awareness of AIDS.^{[citation needed]}

She appeared in plays such as Carry On Papa, Wow What a Girl and A Bengali Jatra.

She made her film debut with Jag Mundhra's 1991 film Vishkanya. She went on to act in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992) with Aamir Khan for which she earned a nomination in the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1993. Her other films include Lootere (1993) and Aatank Hi Aatank (1995).

In 2000, she complied and edited Timepass, the memoirs of her mother Protima Bedi. She has been a columnist with the Times of India, the Hindustan Times, and MiD DAY newspapers, and has written articles for numerous publications, including L'officiel, Femina and The Week. In 2000 she had a public tiff with Amitabh Bachchan.^[2]

She has hosted celebrity talk shows since 2004, one of which, formerly titled Not just Page 3 was later known as Just Pooja. It was broadcast on zOOm. This show went on to win multiple awards.^{[citation needed]}

In 2007, she participated in Jhalak Dikhlaja on Sony Entertainment Television and has since taken up Latin American ballroom dancing. She later performed with her choreographer/partner Hanif Hilal at events and functions all across the globe. She took part in Nach Baliye (Season 3) on Star Plus and Khatron Ke Khiladi on Colors channel. She hosted the Saturday special episode of Bigg Boss season 2 where she interviewed the evicted contestants.

In 2010, she participated in Maa Exchange, the Indian version of "Wife Swap" on Sony Entertainment Television.

She has been a brand ambassador for Kaya Skin Clinic, Allergan India and the Country Club (CCIL India). She is currently a relationship counsellor with her column "Heart Chakra" in the Times of India, and also with her column in Femina, an Indian women's magazine. She also writes a monthly column for the magazine Men's Health.

Bedi is the Chairperson of the charitable organization The Grassroots Foundation. The foundation's objectives and activities include poverty housing, livelihood skills programs, education, farming reforms and water harvesting. Pooja Bedi recently was evicted from Big Boss Season 5 through a popular votes.
