Glue Prints
Another printmaking project done without a press. I teach this mostly to 3rd and 4th graders, but can be fun for any one. I used tempera paint to make the prints. The later prints normally look better than the first ones, but thats o.k.
Stay away from washable glue or "school glue" it won't work well

What are Aluminyzed Metal Photographic Prints
http://froknowsphoto.com/adoramapix_metal_prints/ Click Here for contest rules.
Last month AdroamaPIX announced Aluminyzed Metal Prints and I thought to myself who would want to print their photos on metal? Well, AdoramaPIX asked me to order some prints and to find out for myself.
CHECK OUT BELOW to see how you can WIN one of these Metal Prints from the video.
I chose to order one of each option that they offer in the size of 20x30 with the wall mount already included. The first option allows the metal to come through where white normally would be. The second option prints your image on a white surface allowing your image to really pop off the metal.
What is so cool about these prints is they are water and weather proof because your image is infused right into the metal. These prints are also scratch resistant. I was skeptical about that but after attempting to scratch one of the prints I was pleasantly surprised that I could not scratch it. If you do get dust or finger prints on these prints you can simple use windex to clean them off without any issues.
So who is a metal print for and is it worth the price? Let me tell you that at first I thought $169.99 for the 20x30 print was a little high. But after thinking about it for a while I came to realize that you pretty much are getting a finished product that is very durable, stylish and ready to hang on your wall. If you have ever tried to get a 20x30 print framed you would know to do it properly you may have to spend up to $200 to do it right. Simply having a print that has a mount built into it will save you time and money. Did I mention that metal prints are pretty darn stylish?
All and all I think this is a great idea for your clients, family or your own wall. I asked AdoramaPIX to offer you guys a discount if you would like to try them out for yourself. Please use Code pxfrometal to get 40% off your Aluminyzed Metal Prints until July 17th 2012.
In the video I mentioned a contest to WIN one of the prints. That is right I will be giving away one of these prints signed. The contest is pretty simple Click Here http://froknowsphoto.com/adoramapix_metal_prints/ to see how to enter the contest.

Tutorial for Wood Prints
THIS IDEA IS NOT MY OWN!
Music in this Video:
Just Breathe - Telepopmusik off the album Genetic World
Consequence - The Notwist off the album Neon Gold
This is a video on how to create your own Wood Print from a photograph.
Idea taken from:
http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-transfer-prints-to-wood-an-awesome-photography-diy-project#ixzz1yBXGd96q
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NjYbAAQ4vw&feature;=player_embedded
What I used:
Two wooden blocks purchased from local craft store: (Can also ask Lowe's or Home Depot to cut you the size you need for cheaper.)
Laser Jet copy on regular printing paper from Office Max:(Any print from any store using Laser Jet will work)
A straight edge: I used a Betty Crocker thing I had laying around.
Pigment: From local craft store, in chocolate brown
Brush: laying around my house, use a stiff brush with soft bristles.
Clean clothes: Laying around the house
Sponges: Bought at local craft store
Gel Medium: Liquitex from local craft store (Heard you can also use PVC glue)
Wood stain: Local craft store.
Renaissance Wax: Bought at local wood specialty store in town. YOU CAN USE Mod Podge!!! Make sure you double check if the wax or sealant you are using won't dissolve your medium!
Pretty sure that is all I used!!
Have fun!

Midnight Sun | Iceland
BEST VIEWED IN HD AND FULLSCREEN (with scaling off)
Midnight Sun: A natural phenomenon occurring in the summer months north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle where the sun never fully sets and remains visible 24 hours a day.
This short time lapse film was shot during the Icelandic Midnight Sun in June of 2011.
For 17 days I travelled solo around the entire island shooting almost 24 hours, sleeping in the car, and eating whenever I had the time. During my days shooting this film I shot 38,000 images, travelled some 2900 miles, and saw some of the most amazing, beautiful, and indescribable landscapes on the planet. Iceland is absolutely one of the most beautiful and unusual places you could ever imagine. Especially during the Midnight Sun when the quality of light hitting the landscape is very unusual, and very spectacular.
Iceland is a landscape photographers paradise and playground, and should be number 1 on every photographers must visit list. Iceland during the Midnight Sun is in sort of a permanent state of sunset. The sun never full sets and travels horizontally across the horizon throughout the night, as can be seen in the opening shot and at the :51 second mark in the video.
During the Arctic summer, sunset was at midnight and sunrise was at 3am. The Arctic summer sun provided 24 hours a day of light, with as much as 6 hours daily of "Golden light". Once the sun had set it wouldn't even get dark enough for the stars to come out, and they don't start to reappear until August.
My advice to everyone out there, photographer or not, is simple... You MUST visit Iceland sometime during your lifetime. You will never regret it.

How It's Made - Big Ass Photographic Prints
http://froknowsphoto.com/bigassprints-tphoto/
I love BIG ASS PRINTS, but how are they made? I took a ride over to TaylorPhoto to find out their process for going from digital file to real photographic print to art encapsulation. I personally have over 20 of these prints hanging in my loft that are size 30x45 to 40x60.
As you will see in the video the poster prints are done on real photographic paper not ink jet. As I have said in the past, you can not match the quality of a REAL Photographic print.
This is how it works. You send in your hi-res image ready for print. That file gets sent to a special machine which exposes Fuji Crystal Archival Paper with LED light opposed to light passing through a negative. The paper is than taken to an RA4 processor which processes the exposed paper. For those who are not familiar with this process, the exposed paper is fed through a processor that uses different chemicals to develop, wash, fix and dry your image. After your images are out of the processor they are than trimmed, rolled with a lint roller as they are prepped to be encapsulated.
The reason I use encapsulation opposed to framing my images is because of the size of the prints. When you have such large prints framing becomes extremely expensive and heavy. The art encapsulation allows me to hang large prints easily wherever I would like. Once the prints have been encapsulated your prints are protected from just about anything.
If you are interested in getting the "Big Ass Prints" made please contact Ron Eckert rone@taylorphoto.com or call 800-290-8371. Be sure to tell him the Fro sent you.

Mounting Large Format Prints made easy
David Goetter, well know as the industry expert in large format finishing demonstrates his latest invention. The Tyler Ruler is used for aligning large format prints when mounting. Faster, easier and more accurate than older techniques this unique print alignment tool is a real time saver for any shop that does large format. Like having x-ray vision, you can see the edge of your substrate when your print is oversized, so you wont need to use a light table anymore. The Tyler Ruler works even if the image is opaque. The patented pass-through design eliminates the need to pre-trimming prints before mounting. Photographers who like to float mount images will find the Tyler Ruler easier to use than a T ruler because it lays flat.

Why I make BIG ASS prints
http://froknowsphoto.com/why-i-make-big-ass-prints/
As of late it seems that people have forgotten how amazing BIG ASS PRINTS can look. A lot of people and businesses have moved away from real photographic prints to LCD TVs that hang on the wall to show images. This is sad, images were mean to be printed big and enjoyed opposed to on a LCD screen where your vertical images are given no justice.
I feel that big prints show a quality to the work that a photographer is doing. They make an impression, a lasting impression that says that your images are strong enough to be printed this large.
I think printing large is a testament to understanding photography and how to process your images. Many people forget how important processing is, photography does not stop when you press the button, it stops after you add your style to the image. Your editing is just as important and sometimes more important than getting your settings right.
If you have never printed large I think you should give it a shot. There are a ton of places that print inexpensive poster prints and as you know AdroamaPix.com is one of those. But like everything else just because its less expensive does not mean its the right fit for you. I personally get my big ass prints done at TaylorPhoto.com and they are dam expensive. The prints I am talking about are the ones larger than 20x30 which most online places do not offer.
The moral of the story is don't forget about printing your work. Your images don't want to be relegated to your iphone, ipad, computer or tv screen in an office. They want to be printed big for the world to see that you create amazing quality work.
