i/ˌbrɪtɪʃ kəˈlʌmbiə/ (B.C. or BC) (French: la Colombie-Britannique, C.-B.) is the westernmost of Canada's provinces and is known for its natural beauty, as reflected in its Latin motto, Splendor sine occasu ("Splendour without Diminishment"). Its name was chosen by Queen Victoria in 1858. In 1871, it became the sixth province of Canada.
As well as being the westernmost province of Western Canada, British Columbia is also a component of the Pacific Northwest, along with the US states of Oregon and Washington. The province has strong cultural and personal ties to the Prairie Provinces and Ontario as well as to the West Coast of the United States and to Alaska and the Yukon.
The capital of British Columbia is Victoria, the 15th largest metropolitan region in Canada. The largest city is Vancouver, the third-largest metropolitan area in Canada, the largest in Western Canada, and the second largest in the Pacific Northwest. In 2009, British Columbia had an estimated population of 4,419,974 (about two and a half million of whom were in Greater Vancouver). The province is currently governed by the BC Liberal Party, led by Premier Christy Clark, who became leader as a result of the party election on February 26, 2011.

According to Jim is an American sitcom television series starring Jim Belushi in the title role as a suburban father of three children. It originally ran on ABC from October 3, 2001 to June 2, 2009.
Jim is an abrasive but lovable suburban father. Much like his real life counterpart, Jim's character is noted as a fan of blues music, as well as the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Blackhawks. Together with his wife Cheryl, whose middle name is Mabel, they have three children, daughters Ruby and Gracie and son Kyle. In the seventh season they become parents of a pair of twins Jonathan and Gordon.
Jim often finds himself in messy situations because his laziness inclines him to search for alternative ways of doing things with least effort. While Cheryl's brother Andy may be Jim's best friend, her sister Dana frequently teams up with Cheryl against Jim. He also prefers to lie to Cheryl and Dana to do his own activities but they end up backfiring on him. He hates losing to women (e.g. Hot Dog Eating Contests, Hamburger Eating Contests, Pizza Eating Contests, Pot Pie Eating Contests), especially if Cheryl or Dana find out. He doesn't like people interrupting him when he talks, so he speaks over them to shut them up. Jim often makes an example of Andy, who doesn't have a girlfriend.

Alexandra Hedison
Alexandra Hedison (born July 10, 1969 in Los Angeles) is a contemporary photographer who lives and works in Los Angeles. She is the daughter of actor David Hedison, and is a former actress who appeared on television series such as Showtime's The L Word.
She attended the State University of New York at Purchase and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Hedison first exhibited her series of abstract landscapes at Rose Gallery in Bergamot Station, Los Angeles. In 2005, she exhibited the (Re)Building series, which addressed themes of loss, transition and recovery while using construction as a metaphor for memory in the architecture of the subconscious. Her series of large format photographs entitled Ithaka, which takes its title from the CP Cavafy poem of the same name, was shot in the temperate rain forest of North America. First exhibited in London, Ithaka was included in the New Yorker's 2008 Passport to the Arts and Month of Photography Los Angeles the following year.
Hedison's work is represented in public and private collections worldwide, and her photographs have been shown in one-person and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the US and Europe including Los Angeles, New York, and London.

Schwartz discovers a small door behind a filing cabinet which he enters, finding himself in the mind of actor John Malkovich; able to observe and sense whatever Malkovich does for fifteen minutes before he is ejected and dropped into a ditch near the New Jersey Turnpike. Schwartz reveals the portal to Maxine and they decide to let others use it at $200 a turn.

Cherien Dabis
Cherien Dabis (born 1976) (Arabic: شيرين دعيبس) is a Palestinian American director, producer, and screenwriter. She was named one of Variety magazine's 10 Directors to Watch in 2009.
Dabis was born in Omaha, Nebraska to a Palestinian father and a mother from a Jordanian family from Salt, Jordan. She grew up in Ohio and Jordan. Dabis received her B.A. with honors in creative writing and communications from the University of Cincinnati and her M.F.A. in film from Columbia University School of the Arts in 2004.
Her first short film, Make a Wish, premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and received awards at other festivals. She was a writer with the television series, The L Word from 2006 to 2008.
Dabis made her feature film debut with Amreeka which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. The film also opened to critical praise other important venues. The DVD for Amreeka was released on January 12, 2010 with Make a Wish.

Clementine Shephard Ford (born June 29, 1979) is an American actress who is perhaps best known for her appearance as Molly Kroll on the fourth, fifth & sixth seasons of Showtime's The L Word. In May 2009 Ford told Soap Opera Digest that she is in a relationship with musician and record producer Linda Perry. That relationship is over. Ford is a vegan.
As of May 2012, Ford is engaged to actor Cyrus Wilcox.

Cunt (
/ˈkʌnt/) is a word that primarily describes the female genitalia, and is widely regarded as vulgar. The earliest citation of this usage in the 1972 Oxford English Dictionary, c 1230, refers to the London street known as Gropecunt Lane. Scholar Germaine Greer has said that "it is one of the few remaining words in the English language with a genuine power to shock."
Cunt is also used as a derogatory epithet referring to people of either sex. This usage is relatively recent, dating from the late nineteenth century. Reflecting different national usages, cunt is described as "an unpleasant or stupid person" in the Compact Oxford English Dictionary, whereas Merriam-Webster has a usage of the term as "usually disparaging & obscene: woman", noting that it is used in the U.S. as "an offensive way to refer to a woman"; the Macquarie Dictionary of Australian English states that it is "a despicable man", however when used with a positive qualifier (good, funny, clever, etc.) in Britain, New Zealand and Australia, it can convey a positive sense of the object or person referred to.

Cybill Lynne Shepherd (born February 18, 1950) is an American actress, singer and former model. Her best known roles include starring as Jacy in The Last Picture Show, as Betsy in Taxi Driver, as Madeleine Spencer in Psych, as Maddie Hayes in Moonlighting, as Cybill Sheridan in Cybill, and as Phyllis Kroll in The L Word.
Shepherd was born in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of Patty (née Shobe), a homemaker, and William Jennings Shepherd, who managed a home appliance business. Named after her grandfather Cy and her father Bill, Shepherd won the 1966 "Miss Teenage Memphis" contest at age 16, and the 1968 "Model of the Year" contest at age 18, making her a fashion star of the 1960s, resulting in fashion modeling work through high school and after.
According to Shepherd's autobiography, it was a 1970 Glamour magazine cover that caught the eye of film director Peter Bogdanovich. His then-wife Polly Platt, claimed that it was she who upon seeing the cover in a check-out line in a Ralphs grocery store in southern California, said "That's Jacy," referring to the role Bogdanovich was casting — and ultimately offered to Shepherd — in The Last Picture Show (1971).

Dallas Roberts
Dallas Mark Roberts (born May 10, 1970) is an American stage and screen actor.
Roberts was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where he attended Paul Revere Middle School and Robert E. Lee High School. He then moved to Sarasota, Florida, where he graduated from Sarasota High School in 1988 and attended Manatee Community College. Daniela Sea (born 1977) is an American filmmaker, musician, performance artist, former circus juggler, and actress. She is most widely known for her role as Max/Moira on Showtime's The L Word.
She grew up in Malibu, California, raised by her artist/surfer/hippie parents. When she was a child, her father came out as gay. Daphne du Maurier was born in London, the second of three daughters of the prominent actor-manager Sir Gerald du Maurier and actress Muriel Beaumont (maternal niece of William Comyns Beaumont). Her grandfather was the author and Punch cartoonist George du Maurier, who created the character of Svengali in the novel Trilby.
These connections helped her in establishing her literary career, and du Maurier published some of her very early work in Beaumont's Bystander magazine. Her first novel, The Loving Spirit, was published in 1931.

From a young age she danced, and she practiced in a room that her parents arranged for her in the basement of their house. She began to take part in several ballets, including Swan Lake and in 1983 she appeared in some musicals.

Lively was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He has a sister, actress Blake Lively, half-sisters actresses Lori Lively and Robyn Lively and a half-brother, Jason Lively, who played Rusty in National Lampoon's European Vacation. Lively's first movie was as a baby in Natalie Wood's last film, Brainstorm (1983). After graduating high school, Lively moved to New York City to study photography, his first passion. He guest starred in an episode of Full House at age 13, where he played Stephanie Tanner's first boyfriend. Fag hag is a gay slang phrase referring to a woman who either associates mostly or exclusively with gay and bisexual men, or has gay and bisexual men as close friends. The phrase originated in gay male culture in the United States and was historically an insult. Some women who associate with gay men object to being called fag hags,[citation needed] while others embrace the term. The male counterpart, for men who have similar interpersonal relationships with gay and bisexual men is fag stag, part of hag-ism, the identification of a person with a group—usually united in terms of sexuality, gender identity, or shared sex—of which he or she is not officially a member. In fact, many women who identify as fag hags are already in romantic relationships, either with straight men or with women but appreciate the alternative experience of socializing with gay men and may prefer the gay culture to the straight counterpart. Gertrude Lawrence (4 July 1898 – 6 September 1952) was an English actress, singer and musical comedy performer known for her stage appearances in the West End theatre district of London and on Broadway.
Lawrence was born Gertrude Alice Dagmar Klasen, of English and Danish extraction, in the Newington area of London Borough of Southwark. Her father was a basso profundo who performed under the name Arthur Lawrence. His heavy drinking led her mother Alice to leave him soon after Gertrude's birth.
In 1904, her stepfather took the family to Bognor for the August bank holiday. While there, they attended a concert where audience members were invited to entertain. At her mother's urging, young Gertrude sang a song and was rewarded with a gold sovereign for her effort. It was her first public performance.
In 1908, in order to augment the family's meager income, Alice accepted a job in the chorus of the Christmas pantomime at Brixton Theatre. A child who could sing and dance was needed to round out the troupe, and Alice volunteered her daughter. While working in the production Alice heard of Italia Conti, who taught dance, elocution, and the rudiments of acting. Gertrud auditioned for Conti, who thought the child was talented enough to warrant free lessons.

Heteronormativity
Heteronormativity is a term to describe any of a set of lifestyle norms that hold that people fall into distinct and complementary genders (man and woman) with natural roles in life. It also holds that heterosexuality is the normal sexual orientation, and states that sexual and marital relations are most (or only) fitting between a man and a woman. Consequently, a "heteronormative" view is one that involves alignment of biological sex, sexuality, gender identity, and gender roles.
Michael Warner popularized the term in 1991, in one of the first major works of queer theory. The concept's roots are in Gayle Rubin's notion of the "sex/gender system" and Adrienne Rich's notion of compulsory heterosexuality.
In a series of articles, Samuel A. Chambers calls for an understanding of heteronormativity as a concept that reveals the expectations, demands, and constraints produced when heterosexuality is taken as normative within a society. Originally conceived to describe the norms against which non-heterosexuals struggle, "heteronormativity" quickly became incorporated into both the gender and the transgender debate.

Marlee Bethany Matlin (born August 24, 1965) is an American actress. She is the youngest actress, and the only deaf performer, to win the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, which she won for Children of a Lesser God. Davis was born Raiford Chatman Davis in Cogdell, Clinch County, Georgia, a son of Kince Charles Davis, a railway construction engineer, and his wife Laura (née Cooper). The name Ossie came from a county clerk who misheard his mother's pronunciation of his initials "R.C." when he was born. So he inadvertently became "Ossie" when his mother told the courthouse clerk in Clinch River, Ga., who was filing his birth certificate that his name was R.C. Davis. Davis experienced racism from an early age as the KKK threatened to shoot his father, whose job they felt was too advanced for a black man to have. Following the wishes of his parents, he attended Howard University but dropped out in 1939 to fulfill his acting career in New York; he later attended Columbia University School of General Studies. His acting career, which spanned seven decades, began in 1939 with the Rose McClendon Players in Harlem. He made his film debut in 1950 in the Sidney Poitier film No Way Out. He voiced Anansi the spider on the PBS children's television series Sesame Street in its animation segments.

Rose Troche (born in 1964 in Chicago into a Puerto Rican family) is a film and television director, television producer, and screenwriter. She grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and attended film school, earning a degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She began her career by making short films and videos.
Her directorial debut was the groundbreaking film Go Fish (1994), a lesbian love story. Her television work is just as extensive as her film work. She directed an episode of the HBO hit drama Six Feet Under. Shemale (also she-male) is a term used primarily (but not exclusively) in sex work to describe trans women with male genitalia and augmented female breasts from breast augmentation and/or use of hormones. According to Professors Laura Castañeda and Shannon Campbell at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School of Journalism, "Using the term she-male for a transsexual woman would be considered highly offensive, for it implies that she is working 'in the (sex) trade.'"

Slut or slattern is a term applied to an individual who is considered to have loose sexual morals or who is sexually promiscuous. The term is generally pejorative and most often applied to women as an insult or offensive term of disparagement, meaning "dirty or slovenly." However some women have demonstrated saying they're proud of being "sluts", and have given it a positive connotation.
Although the ultimate origin of slut is unknown, it first appeared in Middle English in 1402 as slutte (AHD), with the meaning "a dirty, untidy, or slovenly woman." Even earlier, Geoffrey Chaucer used the word sluttish (c.1386) to describe a slovenly man; however, later uses appear almost exclusively associated with women. The modern sense of "a sexually promiscuous woman" dates to at least 1450.
Another early meaning was "kitchen maid or drudge" (c. 1450), a meaning retained as late as the 18th century, when hard knots of dough found in bread were referred to as "slut's pennies." A notable example of this use is Samuel Pepys's diary description of his servant girl as "an admirable slut" who "pleases us mightily, doing more service than both the others and deserves wages better" (February 1664). In the 19th century, the word was used as a euphemism in place of "bitch" in the sense of a female dog.

Steve Golin (born March 6, 1955) is the founder and CEO of Anonymous Content LLP, a multimedia development, production and talent management company and co-founder and former CEO of Propaganda Films.
Golin and partner Joni Sighvatsson launched Propaganda Films, a talent management and advertising and video-production company, in 1986. Xena is a fictional character from Robert Tapert's Xena: Warrior Princess franchise. She first appeared in the 1995–1999 television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, before going on to appear in Xena: Warrior Princess TV show and subsequent comic book of the same name. The main character, Jenny, is a recent graduate of the University of Chicago, who moves to Los Angeles to live with her boyfriend Tim and begin a professional writing career. Jenny's life is turned upside down when she attends a party hosted by Tim's next-door neighbors, Bette and Tina, a lesbian couple who are about to take the step into parenthood after being together for seven years. A brief encounter at the party with Marina, the owner of the local coffeehouse, suddenly has Jenny thrust into a whole new world that makes her question her own sexual orientation. Other friends of Bette and Tina include Dana, a professional tennis player who is shy but eager to meet the right woman; Alice, a magazine writer who has a brief relationship with a self-identified "lesbian" man; and Shane, a hairstylist who can't stick to just one woman, and Kit, Bette's half sister who struggles with alcoholism.

As each of us has his own impression of Afghanistan that is predominantly marked with pictures of foreign forces, explosions and terror, we were privileged to have access to capture daily life and portrait some people of Afghanistan.
We hope the pictures you know will merge with the pictures you see and will enrich your view on the country in the Hindu Kush.

Kabul and Mazar-e Sharif
We wanted to go to other places as well but there were several incidents and security was too bad. Just one day after shooting at the blue mosque in Mazar-e Sharif a mob started from the very same place storming the UN building.
I have lived from 2006-2008 in Kabul doing my civil service for a humanitarian aid organization. This March I had the chance to go back with my fiancée to show her the place I love and to capture the beauty of this country with our cameras.
At the same time I made this as a tribute to a dear friend, who was shot in the streets of Kabul. Gayle inspired me in her love and dedication for the Afghans.
After a full summer with other work we had now the chance to do the editing.
Lisa-Maria Puy who composed the music for us was wonderful to work with. We met her on Zanzibar island and back in Germany she composed this wonderful soundtrack within just 3 days (and nights). She studied music at HfM Detmold in Germany and is a very talented artist and we hope to work with her again.

Hi everybody and thanks a lot for all your kind words. L'equip petit is really as little as the kids of Margatania F.C.
But its festival's version has been selected in more than 150 festivals around the world. Selection includes Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, SXSW (South by Southwest, Austin), Toronto International Film Festival for Kids, Hot Docs, Oberhausen, Traverse City, Short Shorts Asian Film Festival, Palm Springs and Cleveland.
This short was originally a demo to show to kids psrents and our closer friends. This isn't a video made with commercial purposes so thank you very much everybody!

As each of us has his own impression of Afghanistan that is predominantly marked with pictures of foreign forces, explosions and terror, we were privileged to have access to capture daily life and portrait some people of Afghanistan.
We hope the pictures you know will merge with the pictures you see and will enrich your view on the country in the Hindu Kush.

Kabul and Mazar-e Sharif
We wanted to go to other places as well but there were several incidents and security was too bad. Just one day after shooting at the blue mosque in Mazar-e Sharif a mob started from the very same place storming the UN building.
I have lived from 2006-2008 in Kabul doing my civil service for a humanitarian aid organization. This March I had the chance to go back with my fiancée to show her the place I love and to capture the beauty of this country with our cameras.
At the same time I made this as a tribute to a dear friend, who was shot in the streets of Kabul. Gayle inspired me in her love and dedication for the Afghans.
After a full summer with other work we had now the chance to do the editing.
Lisa-Maria Puy who composed the music for us was wonderful to work with. We met her on Zanzibar island and back in Germany she composed this wonderful soundtrack within just 3 days (and nights). She studied music at HfM Detmold in Germany and is a very talented artist and we hope to work with her again.

But its festival's version has been selected in more than 150 festivals around the world. Selection includes Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, SXSW (South by Southwest, Austin), Toronto International Film Festival for Kids, Hot Docs, Oberhausen, Traverse City, Short Shorts Asian Film Festival, Palm Springs and Cleveland.
This short was originally a demo to show to kids psrents and our closer friends. This isn't a video made with commercial purposes so thank you very much everybody!

The L Word is an American co-production television drama series originally shown on Showtime portraying the lives of a group of lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and their friends, family and lovers in the trendy Greater Los Angeles, California city of West Hollywood. The show was created by executive producer Ilene Chaiken (Barb Wire, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air).[1] Other executive producers include Steve Golin (Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Larry Kennar (Barbershop). Besides Chaiken, writers of the show have included Guinevere Turner (Go Fish, American Psycho), Cherien Dabis (Amreeka), and Rose Troche (Go Fish, Six Feet Under).

The pilot episode premiered on January 18, 2004. The original five year run ended with the series finale's airing on March 8, 2009. Outside the United States, the series is distributed by MGM Worldwide Television. The L Word was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, at Coast Mountain Films Studios, which was formerly known as Dufferin Gate Studios Vancouver, as well as on location in Los Angeles, California. The studio was once owned by Dufferin Gate Productions, the sister company to Temple Street Productions, the Canadian producer of the U.S. version of Queer as Folk.

The original code-name for the project was Earthlings, a rarely used slang term for lesbians.[2]
Contemporary use of the phrase "the L word" as an alias for lesbian dates to at least the 1981 play My Blue Heaven by Jane Chambers, in which a character stammers out: "You're really...? The L-word? Lord God, I never met one before."[3]
Historical use of "the L word" as code language can also be found in the sentence of a letter written by Daphne du Maurier to Ellen Doubleday: "By God and by Christ, if anyone should call that love by that unattractive word that begins with 'L', I'd tear their guts out." (Du Maurier, author of Rebecca and other works, was deeply conflicted about her attraction to and unrequited passion for Doubleday, as she would later be about her affair with Gertrude Lawrence.)[4]

Season 1[link]
Season 1 premiered in the United States on January 18, 2004, on Showtime and featured 13 episodes presenting several entwined story lines. Set in West Hollywood, the series first introduces Bette Porter and Tina Kennard, a couple with a seven-year relationship who want to have a child. Tina eventually becomes pregnant through artificial insemination but has a miscarriage during episode 1.09: Luk, next time. Later in the series, Bette develops an affair with Candace Jewell.
The pilot introduced a coming out/love triangle storyline involving Tina and Bette’s neighbor, Tim Haspel, his new-in-town girlfriend, Jenny Schecter, and Marina Ferrer. Marina is part of Tina and Bette’s circle of friends, and owns the neighborhood café, The Planet, which serves as the group's hang-out and focal point for the show. The season also introduces Shane McCutcheon, an androgynous, highly-sexual hairstylist and serial heart-breaker; Alice Pieszecki, a girly, bisexual journalist looking for love in any way she can, and Dana Fairbanks, a professional tennis player who is still in the closet and torn between pursuing her career and finding love. In the first season, Dana falls for a sous chef named Lara Perkins whose sexuality is questioned by the group until Lara has an unexpected meeting with Dana in the locker room.

Season 2 began airing on Showtime on February 20, 2005 and featured thirteen episodes. It starts by unveiling to the viewers a secret Tina is keeping from everyone: she successfully became impregnated after a second insemination. Tina begins seeing Helena, while Bette’s life is portrayed as a wreck, with alcohol abuse, problems with her job, the death of her father in episode 2.12:L'Chaim, and being fired during the season finale. Tina and Bette reconcile during the final episode. The character of Louise was written out of the show, and the Planet was bought by Kit Porter.[5]
Introduced in the second season are Carmen de la Pica Morales, a confident DJ who becomes part of a love triangle with Shane and Jenny; Helena Peabody, the daughter of a wealthy supporter of the arts who later becomes Tina's love interest; and Mark Wayland, a documentary filmmaker who moves in with Shane and Jenny. Mark makes them part of his latest documentary by setting up hidden cameras in the house to videotape them. During episode 2.09: Late, Later, Latent, Jenny discovers Mark’s tapes and also discovers the truth about Carmen’s true love.
Season 2 introduces a developing affair between Alice and Dana, which becomes public in episode 2.07: Luminous. It also presents insights into Jenny’s past as an abused child in episode 2.11: Loud and Proud, and reveals episodes of self-harm that reach their climax in the season finale.

The television show set up contest at the website FanLib.com where fans could submit a femme slash fanfic. The winner's story was incorporated into a scene of a third season episode.[6][7]
Season 3 first aired on January 8, 2006, with 12 episodes. It begins six months after the birth of Tina and Bette's daughter, Angelica. New characters in this season include Moira Sweeney (a working class butch portrayed by Daniela Sea who is Jenny’s girlfriend for most of the season) and Angus Partridge (portrayed by Dallas Roberts), Angelica’s male nanny who later becomes Kit's lover.[8] Sweeney starts the process of transitioning from female to male, switching his name to Max. Erin Daniels' character Dana Fairbanks starts in a multi-episode storyline dealing with a breast cancer battle and culminating with her death.[9]
Notable of this season is that each episode begins with a short pre-credits vignette of two individuals meeting romantically or sexually. As the season progresses, lines from Alice's chart (see below) connect one member of each vignette with a new individual in the next.
Helena's character storyline was switched from being Bette's rival into a new member of the circle of friends. Her story arc for the season involves the acquisition of a movie studio[10] in which Tina later works,[11] and which further derives a sexual harrassment lawsuit[12] that triggers her mother to cut her off financially in the season finale. Sarah Shahi's character, Carmen, ends her appearance in the show in the finale when Shane leaves her at the alter.

Showtime announced renewal of the series, in a February 2, 2006, press release:[13]

The season premiere of the fourth season, Legend in the Making, first aired on January 7, 2007.[14] The filming of the season's twelve episodes began in Vancouver, on May 29, 2006.[14]
New cast members for the show's fourth season included Academy-Award winner Marlee Matlin,[15] three time Golden Globe winner Cybill Shepherd,[16] Kristanna Loken,[17] Rose Rollins, Jessica Capshaw and Janina Gavankar.[16] Karina Lombard reprised her role as Marina Ferrer for two episodes.[18] Film and television star Annabella Sciorra guest-starred in several episodes as lesbian film director Kate Arden, chosen to direct the film version of Jenny's story Lez Girls.
Season 5[link]
Showtime picked up a fifth season of The L Word for 12 episodes, touting the show as "a signature franchise among our viewers". Production began in Vancouver the summer of 2007 and ended in Los Angeles early November 2007. The fifth season premiered on January 6, 2008, with episode LGB Tease.[19]
Eva "Papi" Torres (Janina Gavankar), and Dallas Roberts' male token character Angus Patridge were both written out. Clementine Ford, reprised her role as Phyllis Kroll's daughter and began a relationship with Shane McCutcheon.[20]Malaya Drew and Kate French were cast as guest characters for this season.[21] Drew played Adele, a young fan of Jenny's work who gets hired as her personal assistant. French played Niki Stevens, an ambitious young actress and closeted lesbian who won the lead role of Jenny's character, Jesse, in the feature film production of 'Lez Girls'. She also began having a relationship with Jenny, who was directing the film. Elizabeth Keener joined the show as entrepreneur Dawn Denbo, who started a rival lesbian bar with her lover Cindi.
Season 6[link]
Showtime confirmed a sixth and final season for The L Word. Unlike the show's previous seasons, it only lasted 8 episodes to conclude the show with 71 episodes in total. Studio executives commented on the longevity of the show, with the Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt saying that The L Word has "surpassed its niche as a gay show". The sixth season premiered on January 18, 2009 and ended its original run on March 8 of the same year.[22] Producers and writers of The L Word took viewers' opinions regarding the final season’s episodes. The main story of the season is related to the death of Jennifer Schecter and the rest of the season is a flashback from that point.
Before airing the show, Creator Ilene Chaiken denied reports of socialite Paris Hilton guest starring on an interview on gaydarnation.com.[23] Ilene Chaiken said in an interview with the New York Post Magazine that she had offered DJ Samantha Ronson a guest spot in Season 6 but Ronson declined as she was busy.[24] In July 2008, it was confirmed that Elizabeth Berkley would star as Kelly Wentworth (née Freemont) in a multi-episode arc of the final season.[25] Mei Melançon also made guest appearances for the last season as Jamie Chen, a counselor from the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Youth Center who befriends Alice and Tasha and becomes their third-wheel crush.
Interrogation tapes[link]
Shortly after airing the final episode, Showtime began releasing short videos in which characters revealed secrets that weren't revealed during the course of the show. Each video showed the interrogation of one character with a new video being released each Monday after the final episode via the Showtime website. At some point in time Showtime's website ceased carrying the videos, but they can be found on YouTube.[26] All episodes feature Lucy Lawless as Sgt. Marybeth Duffy and Sean Tyson as Det. Sean Holden who are investigating the death of Jenny Schecter.
Following the seven interrogation tapes (featuring Bette, Tina, Alice, Max, Helena, Niki & Shane), the same URL offered an interview with series creator Ilene Chaiken in two weekly installments.[27] Chaiken discussed several aspects of the show's history and plotlines, but would only consent to reiterating that Alice went to jail for Jenny's murder while not necessarily being guilty of the crime. Ilene Chaiken and the cast have commented on different theories about Jenny's death.[28]

Series creator Ilene Chaiken wrote and produced a 20-minute presentation for a possible spin-off centering around another lesbian group in a women's prison where Leisha Hailey's character Alice Pieszecki is detained. The Farm started shooting in December 2008, while the sixth and final season of The L Word premiered in January 2009. Famke Janssen, Melissa Leo and Laurie Metcalf were part of the cast.
Showtime's CEO Matthew Blank announced plans for the new show at the Television Critics Association press tour in July 2008.[29] It was announced in April that Showtime declined to pick up The Farm as a series, which may leave the open-ended element of the series finale as permanently unresolved.[30]
Chaiken has expressed interest in producing a film based on the series in an interview aired through The L Word's website, although according to her declarations, it probably would not emphasize any of the unresolved plot lines of the show and would simply continue the story of the characters' friendships. No official proposals or green-lighting related to an L Word film have been publicized.

Chaiken continued The L Word franchise with the Showtime series The Real L Word, debuting June 20, 2010. The reality series followed the lives of six lesbians in Los Angeles. In an interview for the new series, Chaiken revealed Alice did not kill Jenny in the original series.[31]

As of March 2008, The L Word has released five compilation CDs with the show's soundtrack. The music composer of the show is EZgirl. The music supervisor is Natasha Duprey.
All three of Leisha Hailey's bands have been referenced in the series. A song by The Murmurs, Hailey's first band, was used in a first season episode and included on that season's soundtrack. During the second season, the character Shane is sometimes seen wearing a t-shirt for Gush, Hailey's second band. Songs of Hailey's most recent band, Uh Huh Her, were featured during the show's fifth and sixth seasons; the character Tasha Williams is seen wearing an Uh Huh Her t-shirt during the sixth season.

"The Chart" is a graph of the affairs that occur among Alice's friends and acquaintances; it is an undirected labeled graph in which nodes are labeled with people's names and the lines represent affairs or hookups. Originally, The L Word was to be based around a lesbian Kit Porter, and "The Chart" was tattooed on her back.[2] When Kit Porter was changed into a straight character, The Chart was given to Alice instead.
The Chart is a recurrent element in the show's storylines, especially those related to its creator within the series.[32] During Season 3, it also serves as a marginal storyline that advances through each episode and concludes in the season finale – as well as a way to track the characters and get to know how they interact within the lesbian community.
The Concept of the Chart was further exploited in Season Four. Within the series, the Chart evolves into an internet social network hosting profiles and provides the introduction for the character of Papi in Episode 4.01:Legend in the Making. At the same time, a real-world parallel project OurChart.com was launched.[33] The website, which allowed registered members to create their own profiles and also hosted several blogs on the show, was fully operational until the launch of the Sixth Season, after which Ilene Chaiken announced through an online statement that OurChart.com had merged with Showtime's website.[34]

The show's first season was "broadcast to critical acclaim and instant popularity"; as an article from The New York Times pointed out:[35]
- Before "The L Word," lesbian characters barely existed in television. Interested viewers had to search and second-guess, playing parlor games to suss out a character's sexuality. Cagney and Lacey? Jo on "Facts of Life"? Xena and Gabrielle? Showtime's decision in January 2004 to air The L Word, which follows the lives of a group of fashionable Los Angeles lesbians, was akin to ending a drought with a monsoon. Women who had rarely seen themselves on the small screen were suddenly able to watch lesbian characters not only living complex, exciting lives, but also making love in restaurant bathrooms and in swimming pools. There was no tentative audience courtship. Instead there was sex, raw and unbridled in that my-goodness way that only cable allows.
But co-creator and executive producer Ilene Chaiken had some issues with the reaction:[35]
- I do want to move people on some deep level. But I won't take on the mantle of social responsibility. That's not compatible with entertainment. I rail against the idea that pop television is a political medium. I am political in my life. But I am making serialized melodrama. I'm not a cultural missionary.
While the show is seen as fulfilling lesbians' "obvious and modest representational need"[36] or even the "ferocious desire not only to be seen in some literal sense... but to be seen with all the blood and angst and magic that you possess",[37] the show has been criticized for various scenes which serve to "reify heteronormativity".[38] The show has also been praised for its nuanced consideration (in the first season) of how and in what ways lesbians should stand up to the religious right, with the "Provocations" art show storyline being "a fictionalized version of what happened when Cincinnati's Contemporary Art Center booked a controversial exhibition of Mapplethorpe photographs in 1990".[39]
Unlike its network predecessor Queer as Folk, praised critically for its ground-breaking material that was both well-written and well-acted, there have been complaints from critics regarding The L Word's watered-down, unrealistically glamorous characters and melodrama. Some reviewers (and fans) are put off by the theme song (introduced in the second season) and the "graceless, clunky dialogue".[40]
Several shows have referenced The L Word, including South of Nowhere's first season episode "Girls Guide to Dating"; According to Jim; the medical drama House; the first season finale of Weeds, Jon Stewart's The Daily Show (July 24, 2006); Chapelle's Show: The "Lost Episodes"; The Sopranos episode Live Free or Die; the US version of The Office; Gilmore Girls fourth season episode Scene in a Mall; G4's Attack of the Show skit Lesbionic Women; The Big Gay Sketch Show; The Simpsons episode You Kent Always Say What You Want; and Family Guy episode Brian Sings and Swings. Also, movies such as Puccini for Beginners, I Can't Think Straight, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World have made mention of The L Word as to reference lesbians.
By the time the sixth and final season began, The New York Times was calling the show a "Sapphic Playboy fantasia" that has "shown little interest in variegating portrayals of gay experience. Instead it has seemed to work almost single-mindedly to counter the notion of "lesbian bed death" and repeatedly remind the viewer of the "limits and tortures of monogamy" while "never align[ing] itself with the traditionalist ambitions [for same-sex marriage] of a large faction of the gay rights movement".[41]
Awards[link]
In 2006, Laurel Holloman won a Satellite Award for Best Actress – Television Series Drama for her portrayal of Tina Kennard; the International Press Academy also nominated the show for a Satellite Award for Best Television Series – Drama. In the second season, Ossie Davis won a posthumous Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a drama series in recognition of his portrayal of the father of Bette and Kit Porter. The show received multiple nominations for GLAAD Media Awards and both Pam Grier and Jennifer Beals were repeatedly nominated for NAACP Image Awards.
In 2008 The L Word's companion website was honored at the 59th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Advanced Media Technology for Best Use of Commercial Advertising on Personal Computers.

Jenny also meets Marina Ferrer (Karina Lombard), European owner of The Planet coffeehouse; they are immediately drawn to each other and eventually share a passionate kiss. Marina continues to flirt with Robin despite knowing she's dating Jenny, who has also begun sleeping with Gene. Shane's life turns from bad to worse when her attempt to let Clea down gently turns disastrous. Cherie abandons Shane, and Cherie's husband terminates his business arrangement with Shane. Dana's pet cat dies, and Tonya proposes marriage. | Alice finds herself in a serious bind when she's called by Colonel Davis to testify on behalf of the U.S. Army against Tasha. While testifying, Alice goes on the offensive and inadvertently strikes a nerve when she says that anyone, even Col. Davis, could be deemed gay by association. Col. Davis, fearful of Alice's new platform to out people on The Look, offers Tasha a deal in exchange for Alice's discretion. Tasha, however, chooses to unequivocally state her love for Alice, ending her military career. Meanwhile, Jenny continues her romance with Niki just as Niki's managers push into full-force damage control after photos of Niki's oil wrestling stint are posted in numerous tabloid magazines and internet sites. When one of Niki's movies opens, Tina and the producers ban Jenny from attending as Niki's date, and force Greg, the young male actor playing Jim, to accompany Niki to the premiere. Jenny asks Adele to sneak her into the theater, but the increasingly manipulative Adele instead uses her time inside without Jenny to network with many people about the movie. Across town, Bette and Tina's anguish over hiding their secret tryst begins to get to both of them emotionally as Jodi continues to slowly drift away from Bette, while Tina invites the Lez Girls cinematographer, Samantha, over for dinner at Jodi's house. Bette continues to drift apart from Jodi who begins to wonder why Bette has a lack of interest in her. Tasha asks Alice to move in together, and Alice accepts. During their stop for the night, a campfire game of 'I never' evolves into an involved discussion of cheating where Bette and Tina end up unintentionally revealing their secret newfound romance to their appalled friends, leaving Jodi completely wrecked. Meanwhile, Molly's continuing interest in Shane leads her to follow her on the bicycle marathon, apologizing for the blunt conversation Shane overheard between Molly and Phyllis. Molly succeeds in getting back into Shane's good graces, and they hook up. Jenny brings Niki along with her to get away from work, and they unwind by making an explicit homemade video of some of their time alone. | The twisted Adele finally goes over the deep end when, after weeks of malicious planning, she finally shows her true psychotic face and makes her move to take over Jenny's career and directing rights to Lez Girls by stealing Jenny and Niki's sex tape made during the bicycle marathan campout. She shows it to the producers and Jenny, stating that she will send copies of it to various TV networks if she isn't put in as Jenny's replacement immediately. As a result, the studio heads have no choice but to comply with Adele, and Jenny is ousted from the picture. Jenny tries to lead a walk-off the set to protest, but other than Shane, no one joins her. Jenny is incensed at Adele's betrayal. When Dawn and Cindi buy Ivan's 51% of the rights of The Planet in another attempt to close it down for good, Kit reaches her breaking point and goes to She-Bar to "do something stupid" with her newly bought gun, but is interrupted by Bette who asks her to pick up Angie from pre-school. After a terrifying moment when Angie finds and plays with the still-loaded gun, Kit disposes of the gun in a trash can. Meanwhile, Bette and Jodi get together to talk about Bette's betrayal, but nothing becomes stated because Bette confirms to love simultaneously Tina and Jodi. Tina, with problems of her own on the Jenny-Adele case, constantly calls Bette to check if she has broken up with Jodi. Tasha and Alice look for a place to move in, but troubles arise when they talk about expenses, and the details of splitting the rent. Alice is invited to a party by a New Zealand lesbian fashion designer, named Clea Mason (Melanie Lynskey), whom she met on the TV cable program The Look. | Shane and Molly share a passionate and touching morning before meeting Molly's mother Phyllis and Joyce for breakfast. Phyllis asks Molly if she is taking the internship in Washington D.C. during the following summer that they once talked about; Molly replies that she will spend the summer surfing with Shane, who was unaware of the internship. Shane is later confronted by Phyllis who says that Shane is not worthy of Molly, especially in light of her past relationship failures, and she should break up with her to get it over with. Helena Peabody returns to Los Angeles to visit her mother in the hospital and is gifted by her family's wealth once again. On hearing of Kit's loss of The Planet while she was away, Helena brings a mighty tempting proposition to SheBar owner Cindi: the chance of escaping the evil Dawn's claws by giving them insider information, which will allow them to buy out SheBar's other investors. Cindi gladly accepts, and takes great pleasure in reasserting her identity — she's Cindi Tucker, not "my lover Cindi." Meanwhile, Alice almost kisses Clea Mason, but doesn't end up falling in temptation despite her continuing problems with Tasha. Elsewhere, Bette gives a kind and heartfelt speech at Jodi's art exhibition, but is humiliated by Jodi's new piece, which is about her and their breakup. Filming on Lez Girls finally wraps up, but the problems with post-production do not end as the distributors want the filmmakers to change the ending by having Jesse get back together with Jim. Tina soon clashes with both the producers and Adele, since they decide to make the change to make the movie less gay and more marketable. With her work on the movie finished, Niki wants to get back together with Jenny, who pushes her away for not having the nerve to stand up to Adele or the producers about their romance. William Halsey and the producers throw a celebration wrap party in the Hollywood Hills where everyone arrives full of glitz and glamour. At the party, Bette publicly reunites with Tina at last. The crafty and sneering sociopath Adele, gloating and reveling in her new Hollywood power and relationship with actress Begonia, gives what she thinks will be the closing speech at the party, only to be interrupted by Jenny who pushes her way into the party and sets the record straight by giving a powerful speech about her experiences on set, and also says how thankful she is for the rest of her friends' loyalty and trust. Ironically in that same moment, Niki and Shane are hooking up after flirting for much of the evening; Jenny walks in on them and angrily declares Shane's actions "the ultimate betrayal" and says that Shane has broken her heart. | |||||

| Jenny throws a baby shower for a overwhelmed Max. But during the party, Jenny, being the nihilist person she is, spills the beans to Dylan about the girls hiring Niki to seduce her as a test to Helena's loyalty, which causes Dylan to get upset and Helena to go crazy. Meanwhile, Bette and Tina begin the adoption process when they discover from Joyce that Nevada's state law refuses to grant adoption to a non-married lesbian couple. Bette goes to her new art gallery opening-night celebration solo, putting her in the shark's tank with Kelly, while Tina flies to New York to work on a new movie project. Shane desires freedom from Jenny's clinginess, while Jamie begins to take a toll on Alice and Tasha's relationship. Shane almost cheats on Jenny with Niki who returns to the scene, but Shane comes down with food poisoning, in which she successfully avoids both sex with Niki and being discovered by Jenny. Elsewhere, Kit meets a handsome man at Kelly's new art gallery who tries to pick her up, but she doesn't respond well to his advances. | |||||

| The girls partake in the annual 24-hour Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center's dance marathon at Hit! with Sunset Boulevard as the MC. There, rumors fly about Tasha and Alice's relationship troubles when Jamie begins to play both of them against each other. Tina reveals that she may be moving to New York to open her own movie studio and ponders asking Bette to come with her. Sunset Boulevard makes a shocking revelation to Kit that he is the dashing young man who is trying to pick her up when not in costume. Jodi shows up at the dance marathon with her new girlfriend to further taunt Bette by entering one of the dance contests. The twisted Jenny further meddles in Bette's life by threatening to tell Tina about Bette's alleged tryst with Kelly, while Jenny further humiliates Shane when Jenny suspects Shane of cheating on her with Niki again. Dylan shows up to reconcile with Helena who accepts. The next day, when Bette and Tina go to the bus stop to pick up the potential surrogate mother whose child they plan to adopt, she's a no-show. | |||||

| In the series finale, a celebration of friendship ends in disaster. When Bette and Tina announce they will be moving to New York for good, Jenny decides to make a farewell video for them. But her cynical ways start to drive a further wedge between her and everyone else. Alice tells Tasha that if she wants to be with Jamie to go ahead, and if she doesn't come back in 24 hours, she'll know what choice Tasha made. Helena comes to the realization that she will never be able to truly trust Dylan, so she breaks up with her for good. Kit finally gets together with Sunset Boulevard, but she is still convinced that Bette was unfaithful when Jenny shows her a video she took of Bette and Kelly. Meanwhile, Shane has a run-in with Molly Kroll who tells her about the letter she left in Shane's jacket pocket. When Shane realizes that Jenny never told her about this, she looks for the jacket in the attic and finds it... along with the missing negatives for "Lez Girls." That night, events come full circle when all of the girls find themselves in a situation with the law. Sergeant Marybeth Duffy (Lucy Lawless) investigates Jenny's death when she is found floating face-down in Bette and Tina's swimming pool. Sgt. Duffy learns that all of them had a motive and opportunity to kill Jenny for her dark and amoral ways. Niki is also spotted lurking around both Bette's and Jenny's houses by the police after the discovery of the body. The series ends with all of the friends going to the police station to make their statements... and one of them will take the fall. | |||||
