Ancient Rome IX - The Pyrrhic War
This is the ninth ofmany chapters in History with a Twist of Lime's look on "The Historical History of Ancient Rome." This chapter deals with the first military meeting (280-275 BC) between the Romans and the Greeks, the latter lead by the King of Epirus, Pyrrhus. It discusses how the Romans were able to hang in there and claim victory in the war, despite the fact that Pyrrhus technically didn't lose a single battle. It also opens the door for the pending fight with the empire of Carthage due to unsettled business by Pyrrhus on the island of Sicily. As this is one of many chapters being produced over this project, I would invite you to watch the other chapters dealing with the history of Ancient Rome. They can be viewed seamlessly under this playlist on YouTube: www.youtube.com References: Cavazzi, Franco. "The Early Roman Republic." Prince_of_Macedon Plays "Europa Universalis: Rome" #01
I decided to try out this budget game called "Europa Universalis: Rome" made by Paradox Interactive. It's for the PC. If you don't like this time period, then Paradox Interactive offers the same gameplay with different time periods (if you can track down those titles). I use Macedon as my faction. I chose the setting as the "Pyrrhic Wars." My starting king is Ptolemy Keraunos.

Greek War Dance, Bloody & Violent (Pyrrhic Dance)
The Pyrrhic Dance is the most famous war dance in Greece. It dates back to ancient Thrace and the version shown on the video is the war dance of the Christian Greeks inhabitants of Pontos located in Asia Minor (Turkey). This is a traditional war dance (performed in the video by cadets of the Hellenic Army Academy). This war dance here commemorates the Greek genocide also known as the Pontian genocide, which was the systematic killing of the Greek population of the Ottoman Empire during World War I and its aftermath (1914--1923). Empire total war ; Pyrrhic Victory
Pyrrhic Victory A very costly victory, wherein the considerable losses outweigh the gain, so as to render the struggle not worth the cost. Prussians, had around 2500 men United Provinces (me) had about the same around 2800 just a few more They had massive Calvary that devastated my right flank I had infantry and a lot of artillery which obliterated their horses Yet they had reinforcement grenadiers that cut through my men with ease In the end i lost about 3/4 of my men where as the Prussians lost all their men ; ) on the campaign map i was forced to retreat from my position, do to another Prussian army Lost Wurttemberg in the process The cost to rebuild my forces was around 8000 big ones Music is from -napoleon total war

Zulawski's THE DEVIL (aka DIABEL) trailer
BANNED IN POLAND FOR ALMOST TWO DECADES!
THIS SATURDAY MARCH 10th 7:00
tickets n info: http://tinyurl.com/75ngyjr
Hitting an off-the-charts level of subversive allegory, Zulawski’s second feature is a blood-splattered rampage through a war-charred 1790s Poland that turns the historical epic inside out, and dances on its carcass. Immediately banned in the director’s Communist Poland for over a decade and a half, The Devil writhes with nonstop demonic energy as it follows an nobleman who, after escaping from prison, swandives into insanity and mass murder. Returning home to his once-rich family — one now reduced to savages — and manipulated by a black-cloaked Satanic stranger at the center of a web of political treachery, the nobleman eventually enacts a Hamlet-like pyrrhic revenge on just about everyone in sight. But The Devil’s most spectacularly intense violence is all emotional, with near-constant outbursts of grief, and desperation of a seizure-like intensity that is downright mesmerizing. You won’t be able to look away, and with the way Zulawski’s gloriously restless camerawork captures all the detail, you’ll never want to.
Dir. Andrzej Zulawski, 1972, 35mm, 119 min.
Co-presented by the Polish Cultural Institute New York, BAMcinématek & Cinespia

I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Mavin Gaye
Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through The Grapevine - is the Black Power Domino. Black Panther militancy arose out of frustration at Black America's unrewarding dialogue with The White Establishment. For young Blacks, the message "heard through the grapevine" was that Black America had to rely upon and defend itself in the aftermath of Watts. In creating the Black Panther Party, Huey Newton and Bobby Seale affirmed the right to use violence for self-protection against systemic police brutality. "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" shows the transition to "black is beautiful" activism: from young Black men hanging out on inner-city street corners, to young Blacks listening to Malcolm X. And from images of Huey Newton, Bobby Seale and Angela Davis to footage of Panthers parading in military formation, promoting Black Pride in community service programs, taking part in self-defense patrols, and giving the Black Power salute to the mainstream press at Black Panther rallies. Counterintelligence efforts of the FBI and police were directed to undermine the growing unity among the Black Panthers and other minority power movements. Ultimately, this period left nearly 30 Black Panthers dead, and many of its members fleeing the country. The Establishment had won a Pyrrhic victory.
This is a clip from the DOMINOES Movie that features music by the Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Crosby Stills Nash Young ( CSNY ), Grateful Dead, Santana, B. B. King, Marvin Gaye, Janis Joplin, Van Morrison, Canned Heat, Richie Havens and more. DOMINOES is about the electric, turbulent decade of rock, revolution, and the Vietnam War and focuses on a succession of thirteen evolutionary tableaus, conveying the directors view that one thing leads to another, as in the domino effect where one change or event causes a similar one, which then causes an additional one, and so on in a linear sequence. DOMINOES creation began in 1976, long before the appearance of rock videos. Its composition marked a radical departure in documentary filmmaking, that continued to separate it from other sixties films and videos. Completed in 1989, its release was delayed until summer of 2009, when it acquired dynamic distribution.
