History of the Theatre Royal Newcastle
In the last week of the school year, we have two days known as creativity days, wherein you take part in activities different from your everyday time-tabled lessons. Last year we had a separate time-table for these two days, which told us where next we should go for another creative activity; but this year was different: this year we were given a list of available activities, and were asked to select the one we wanted to do the most. One of said options, was a gifted and talented trip to the Theatre Royal Newcastle, which I was invited on, on which you were expected to take notes on the theatre that could be used in a marketing campaign. In March -September 2011, the theatre will be closed for refurbishment in an attempt to restore the theatre to the way it was when Frank Matcham redesigned it, ready for their 175th anniversary in 2012. Our task was to create a marketing campaign that could be used in order to recouperate the money lost during the closure and due to the renovation itself. This is the video I made that could be sold as a promotional DVD detailing the history of the theatre. DISCLAIMER! : I do not own the rights to the song used in the video and do not claim to, it is simply there to add effect as a silent video wouldn't really capture people's interests, and it goes with the video. Were it to be used as an actual item for sale, all rights would be obtained before use.

3 Blackpool Tower
Continue south, crossing Church Street to Blackpool Tower (3). This iconic Grade I listed building was completed in 1894 on the site of the original Doctor Cocker's Aquarium, one of the first purpose built entertainments in Blackpool. The Tower itself is 518 feet high and tapers from 100 feet wide at the base to just 30 feet wide under the viewing gallery. Designed by the architectural firm of Maxwell and Tuke and the engineer RJG Reade in a mix of styles, the building is full of hidden architectural surprises. Its most famous space, the Ballroom, was designed by Frank Matcham in the style of the Opera Garnier in Paris. The Ballroom is the home of the famous Blackpool Tower Wurlitzer and features tiered galleries, art nouveau style chandeliers and even a roof that opens to the sky - an ingenious early form of air conditioning! The Tower Circus is another of the building's architectural gems. Also by Frank Matcham, but this time in a Moorish style, the circus sits underneath the centre of the tower, has two tiers of seating and a circus ring that drops into 42000 gallons of water for spectacular aquatic finales.

Buxton Skyline (1901)
This panoramic shot of the Buxton skyline captures the famous Georgian crescent designed by John Carr of York for William Cavendish, the Duke of Devonshire, and the 18th century stable block, with its large slate domed roof, also built for the Duke. The film itself would be shown in the Pavilion theatre, part of the Opera House built by Frank Matcham under the patronage of Mr Tweedale, a travelling film exhibitor who presented a show in early February 1901. Buxton skyline appears as familiar today as it would be to the Edwardian audience and shows the dramatic skyline outlined against the Derbyshire landscape. (Vanessa Toulmin) Thisfilm is part of the Mitchell and Kenyon collection - an amazing visual record of everyday life in Britain at the beginning of the twentieth century. Former Olympia Cinema in Bridgeton, Glasgow After its Demolition
www.barryskelly.co.uk Hi there! This is a video of a famous Glasgow East End landmark after being flattened to the ground for the Commonwealth Games. Here is some information about the building.. "This B-listed building opened in September 1911 as the Olympia Theatre of Varieties, with an interior by Frank Matcham (seating around 2000). The exterior was designed by George Arthur. It was sold to Scottish Cinema and Variety Theatres (SCVT - the pre-cursor to the ABC chain) in 1924. The interior was rebuilt to better suit cinema use in 1938 by prolific cinema architects McNair & Elder, at which point it seated 1689. Renamed the ABC in 1963, it continued as a cinema until March 1974. From 1978 it was used as a bingo hall, and later as a furniture warehouse. It has been sitting derelict since around 2000. In 2003, Glasgow City Council granted planning permission to demolish the cinema and build flats behind a partially retained facade, though to date no work has yet been done on this."

NICKY SWANN - DAYS LIKE THESE
Like' us on Facebook - on.fb.me Follow us on Twitter - bit.ly PRESENTED BY LAMA SEA-DEAR After splitting from her covers duo and long term guitarist in 2006 Nicky searched for a replacement but was disappointed by those she auditioned. Determined to continue, she decided to take on the role of guitarist herself and quickly expanded her three chord repertoire and was gigging again after six months. She started to write new material and relaunched herself as a singer-songwriter. Since then she hasn't looked back and her achievements to date include, winning "Best Acoustic Act" at South West Music Awards, winning the Artsbase "Singer-Songwriter Award" and sharing the stage with many top UK artists including Charlotte Church, Clive Gregson, Roy Bailey and Megson as well as American artists Corrine West and Brooks Williams. She has performed at many festivals throughout the UK including HOME, Bristol Folk Festival and Chagstock, has headlined the acoustic stage at Transition Festival as well as performing in Europe. She has performed live for BBC Radio including an impromptu performance with award winning folk singer and fiddle player Jackie Oates. Nicky's new release "How Does Your Land Lie?" is a collection of eleven original songs inspired by the history of her home town Newton Abbot. Two of the town's famous sons, Frank Matcham (leading Victorian theatre architect) and John Lethbridge (diving engine inventor) are celebrated (Because of You and Diving) alongside the famous ...

12 Queen Mary Historical Audio Walk of East London
Popular entertainment is at the heart of East End history, as Dr Alastair Owens, from the School of Geography at Queen Mary, University of London explains. The Genesis Cinema on Mile End Road started life as the Eagle Pub in the 1840s. Amanda Vickery, historian at Queen Mary, also gives her take on what makes a Georgian house, as seen on Mile End Road, so architecturally special. 26 The Grand Theatre
Above the shops on the corner of Carter Street notice the remains of the Adelphi Hotel. This was a replacement for an earlier hotel dating back to 1835 and built by Esau Carter, the first unofficial postmaster in Blackpool. On the corner of Church Street and Coronation Street see the Old Post Office Buildings, so called as they stand on the site of the unofficial post office run by Alice Carter, daughter of Esau, from 1877 to 1892. Rebuilt in 1893 as Herbert Bentley's drapery, it was the first shop in Blackpool to be lit by electricity. The post office moved next door into Coronation Street where it was the town's first Crown Post Office, until it moved again in 1910 into the Post Office on Abingdon Street (no. 31). Continue along Church Street to The Grand Theatre (26). With Blackpool Tower and the Winter Gardens, the Grade II* Grand Theatre is one of the most important entertainment heritage buildings in Blackpool. Built in just 7 months in 1894 at a cost of £20000, the exterior with its copper scaled dome is one of the key visual landmarks of the town centre. The beautifully decorated interior was designed by Frank Matcham, famous for creating superb theatres on small sites. In designing The Grand he delivered an intimate four-tier 1100 seat auditorium with excellent sight lines and virtually no restricted views. It has three double curved balconies and features elaborate baroque plaster decoration in cream and gold. The painted ceiling with its portraits of famous ...
