Technology Adoption as Place-making (ICIS 2012)
I gave this presentation at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in Orlando, FL on 18 December 2012. In this paper we (Robert Johnston and I) introduce a new theory of technology adoption that is based on phenomenology, which means it captures and is true to our everyday way of engaging with technology and tools. I begin by illustrating a number of familiar, everyday phenomena of engaging with tools. I then present our theory which is built over Martin Heidegger's existential phenomenology (no philosophy background needed!). Finally, I illustrate the theory with a case study of Enterprise Social Network adoption (Yammer @ Capgemini).

Oil'd
In April 2010 a massive oil spill began in the Gulf. The entire country was glued to the news until the well was capped, and then we forgot about it.
As the year anniversary was approaching I became curious, just how much oil was that exactly? Where would it have gone? What I found was shocking.
So in an effort to further our discussion on oil dependency I created this short animation to help illustrate just how dependent we truly are on oil.

Here is a short film created for the 3rd Edition: Zot Movie Festival, dedicated to extreme sports, presented on the 16th of October 2010.
The film was shot from January to July 2010 in Reunion island at different surf locations: St Pierre/ La Tortue/ 03 Roches/ Les Brisants.
A big tribute to the following riders who made this film possible: Maxime Huscenot/ Christophe Allary/ Charly Chapelet/ Laury Grenier/ Olivier Marimoutou/ Hugo Dubosc/ Adrien Rapp and others.
Hopefuly next year there will be more directors to present and promote the island of reunion as well as its riders, through their own styles.
______________________________________________

ICIS Demonstrates System for Congresswoman Laura Richardson
(released) On Wednesday, November 9, the ICIS Joint Powers Authority hosted Congresswoman Laura Richardson of California's 37th district at an informational presentation in Beverly Hills. The event included a wide ranging discussion on interoperability, municipal communications systems, emergency response and Federal initiatives in place to assist local responders. As the meeting was winding down, ICIS agencies participated in a roll call of users on the ICIS radio system. This demonstrated the wide area coverage of the system as well as the diverse user base of the ICIS agencies. As expected, the coverage and clarity were very impressive. Also participating in the event were Councilmember Andrew Weissman, Bob Hope Airport Police Chief Ed Skvarna and public safety first responders from throughout the region. At the conclusion of the demonstration of the network, the congresswoman took to the airwaves. "To be the ranking member of Emergency Preparedness and Response, I'm amazed at the system you have been able to put together with the limited resources that you have" she said. She went on to pledge her support for the continuance of the ICIS initiative. "Count me in now as a fully sworn supporter and I intend to do whatever we need to do to keep this going. Congratulations, you guys are doing a great job."
