LOFAR ist ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt der niederländischen astronomischen Organisation ASTRON, den Universitäten Amsterdam, Groningen, Leiden und Nimwegen sowie einer deutschen Beteiligung bestehend aus zwölf Instituten, die sich im Long Wavelength Consortium (GLOW) zusammengeschlossen haben. Ihm gehören das Leibniz-Institut für Astrophysik Potsdam (AIP) mit dem OSRA, das Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie (MPIfR) in Bonn, das Max-Planck-Institut für Astrophysik (MPA) in Garching, der Exzellenzcluster Universe München/Garching, die Thüringer Landessternwarte in Tautenburg, die Jacobs-Universität Bremen sowie die Universitäten Bielefeld, Bochum, Bonn, Hamburg und Köln an.
Die Stationen, bestehend aus jeweils 192 Einzelantennen, sind an verschiedenen Orten in den Niederlanden, Deutschland und weiteren europäischen Ländern (Frankreich, Großbritannien, Schweden) angesiedelt. Weitere Stationen in Polen, Irland und Finnland sind in Planung. Im Falle des LOFAR sind die Einzelantennen sehr einfach gebaute Drahtpyramiden und weniger als mannshoch -- im Gegensatz zu früheren Interferometern wie dem Very Large Array und dem VLBI, bei denen die Einzelkomponenten große Parabolantennen sind.

The VLA has been used by more astronomers and has been mentioned in more scientific papers than any other radio telescope in the world. Each antenna is an 82-foot diameter dish that weighs 230 tons. The on-site visitor center and gift shop offers displays and videos that educate about radio astronomy and the VLA telescope, and are open all year from 8:30 a.m. to sunset. First snow in the winter 2010, near Reykjavik. I'm not a very good skier but enjoy the sport nevertheless. The camera is a GoPro Hero HD, mounted on the right ski.
Fyrsti snjórinn í Bláfjöllum. Norðan fræsingur og gott færi. Sjö stiga frost. Ég er ekki sérstaklega góður skíðamaður en hef ákaflega gaman af þessu. Festi GoPro Hero HD myndavél á hægra skíðið. Færið lofar góðu og vonandi að það snjói áfram.

Arthur´s dagurinn - Málum bæinn svartan !
Arthur Guiness var írskur brugggerðarmaður og stofnandi Guinness bruggverksmiðjunnar, ásamt fjölskyldu sinni. Hann var einnig athafnamaður, brautryðjandi og mikill mannvinur.
Þegar hann var 27 ára, árið 1752, arfleiddi guðfaðir Guiness, Arthur Price biskup að Cashel, kirkju hinna írsku erkibiskupa, að 100 pundum í erfðaskrá sinni. Guinness
fjárfesti með þeim peningum í bruggverksmiðju í Leixlip, sem var aðeins 17km frá Dublin. Árið 1759 fór Guinness svo til Dyflinnar og hóf sinn eiginn rekstur. Hann tók á leigu 16.000 fermetra bruggverksmiðju í St.James Gate af Sir Mark Rainsford og samningurinn var upp á 45 pund á ári í 9000 ár. Klókur.
Í dag mun Arthur´s dagurinn verða haldinn hátíðlegur á krám landsins.
Arthur´s dagurinn er haldin í minningu Arthur Guinness sem fann upp mjöðinn árið 1759, en klukkan 17:59 á morgun munu bjórþyrstir Guinness áhugamenn lyfta glösum og
skála fyrir Arthur.
Flest allar krár lækka verðið hjá sér niður í 300 krónur á stórum Guinness. Sverrir Bergmann og hljómsveit spila á English Pub í Austurstræti frá 17:59 og lofar Ingvar Svendsen kráareigandi miklu stuði.

The music was written for me and is titled, "One For Lisa." It is by Mikey Dred of Newcastle-on-Tyne UK. He gave it to me to use with some slideshows and clips as long as I credited him.
The first two photos are above Autoir, France and may show chemtrails.
The rest of the photos are in Martel, known as the City of Towers. Les Halles, the marketplace, is open every Wednesday morning. We enjoyed it and then had a restaurant lunch there on a terrace facing it. We enjoyed local products such as foie gras, walnuts, polenta in cassoulet, saffron rice (they produce very good saffron here) and fresh, ripe figs.
This region also produces much tobacco, fruit, corn and dairy products, including lots of goat and beef products.
In July and August, Les Halles in Martel has free live music. It must be very pleasant, but we avoid vacation travel in Europe in July and August, preferring September and other off-peak times.
The Quercy region of France is fascinating and has a rich history. We stayed in a rented, furnished 17th century house in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, in the Corrèze département. The landlady does not speak English, but I could connect you. It was very inexpensive and sleeps five. We never had to buy more diesel fuel during our week here for our little car. So many things are right around, you don't have to do any long drives. We tried to rent in Martel for the week but the place was taken. We were thrilled with Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne. The fishing is great here, too, if you like that.

Die Blackbudgets dafür mögen zwar sehr hoch sein, doch am Wochende will der Steuerzahler Ruhe haben.. mal sehen wann die ersten Bürger "blöde (An)Fragen" stellen, schickt doch mal wieder Segelflieger oder warum nicht gleich Militärdrohnen, LOL!

LOFAR is the Low-Frequency Array for radio astronomy, built by the Netherlands astronomical foundation ASTRON and operated by ASTRON's radio observatory.
LOFAR will be the largest connected radio telescope ever built,[citation needed] using a new concept based on a vast array of omni-directional antennas. The project is based on an interferometric array of radio telescopes using about 20,000 small antennas and at least 48 larger stations. 40 of these stations are distributed across the Netherlands, five stations in Germany, and one each in Great Britain, France and Sweden. Further stations may also be built in other European countries. The total effective collecting area is up to approximately 300,000 square meter, depending on frequency and antenna configuration. The data processing is performed by a Blue Gene/P supercomputer situated in the Netherlands at the University of Groningen.
LOFAR was conceived as an innovative effort to force a breakthrough in sensitivity for astronomical observations at radio-frequencies below 250 MHz. Astronomical radio interferometers usually consist either of arrays of parabolic dishes (e.g. the One-Mile Telescope), arrays of one-dimensional antennas (e.g. the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope) or two-dimensional arrays of omnidirectional antennas (e.g. Antony Hewish' Interplanetary Scintillation Array).

In July and August, Les Halles in Martel has free live music. It must be very pleasant, but we avoid vacation travel in Europe in July and August, preferring September and other off-peak times.
The Quercy region of France is fascinating and has a rich history. We stayed in a rented, furnished 17th century house in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, in the Corrèze département. The landlady does not speak English, but I could connect you. It was very inexpensive and sleeps five. We never had to buy more diesel fuel during our week here for our little car. So many things are right around, you don't have to do any long drives. We tried to rent in Martel for the week but the place was taken. We were thrilled with Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne. The fishing is great here, too, if you like that.
