Three-mendous by Gateshead's Bogie men - Apr 20 2009 by Jeff Bowron, Evening Chronicle
A triple second half blast saw Gateshead beat a struggling Farsley Celtic 3-0 at the International Stadium to take the Blue Square North title race into the final week.
Lee Novak's 27th goal of the season broke the deadlock after 54 minutes and then on loan front man Darryn Stamp added a second eight minutes later.
Graeme Armstrong, on as a substitute for Stamp, then made it three late in the game, and a point on the last day at Hucknall will guarantee Gateshead a top three finish.
However if leaders Tamworth lose at home to mid-table Hinckley United tomorrow Gateshead will travel to Nottinghamshire with their title hopes still alive.
While Tamworth and Gateshead both won on Saturday the other top five sides all dropped two points as the promotion race hots up.
Gateshead manager Ian Bogie said: "As expected the title has gone right down to the wire and if the championship is beyond us on Saturday we have got to try and finish second."
"That will give us an advantage in the play-offs and we have to go to Hucknall and get a win against a side who have finished bottom of the table."
Bogie's hopes of having a full squad to select from against Farsley were hit by the loss of central defenders Carl Jones and Matt Hocking through illness.
That saw young Frenchman Stephane Pelonde make his full debut and while the former Le Havre trainee showed promise the defence looked vulnerable.
Another player making his first start at home, on loan Chester City player Tony Dinning, struggled to make an impact in midfield but shored up the defence following Pelonde's substitution ten minutes into the second half.
"We were all at sea defensively for an hour," added Bogie "we needed a spark to lift the crowd and Lee Novak gave us it with a great goal."
"After that there was only going to be one winner. I was pleased
with the second half display when we upped the tempo, and we got the win we needed and by a good margin."
"We'll go to Hucknall looking for more goals and three points. If we achieve that goal then we'll see where we finish and take it from there."
Only the brilliance of veteran keeper Paul Musselwhite kept Gateshead's goal intact before Novak took Jamie Harwood's pass to hammer home the opener.
Influential sub. Phil Turnbull's 62nd minute corner was then headed home by Stamp, with Armstrong then adding the third after great play from Wayne Phillips and a clever Novak lay-off.

US Cardinals press conference at North American College
Cardinal Sean O'Malley of Boston, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Houston, and Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, answer questions during a press conference at the North American College in Rome on Feb. 27, 2013. Countering much speculation that next Pope will be chosen based on geographic concerns, the three American cardinals say the best candidate to succeed Benedict XVI is a man of holiness who can communicate the Gospel.

Lee Myung-bak (born 19 December 1941) is the President of South Korea. Prior to his presidency, he was the CEO of Hyundai Engineering and Construction and the mayor of Seoul. He is married to Kim Yoon-ok and has three daughters and one son. His older brother is Lee Sang-deuk, a South Korean politician. He attends the Somang Presbyterian Church. Lee is a graduate of Korea University and also received an honorary degree from Paris Diderot University on May 13, 2011.
Lee altered the South Korean government's approach to North Korea, preferring a more hardline strategy in the wake of increased provocation from the North, but is also supportive of regional dialogue with Russia, China, and Japan. Under Lee, South Korea has been increasing its visibility and influence in the global scene, resulting in the hosting of the 2010 G-20 Seoul summit. However, there remains significant controversy in Korea in regards to high profile government initiatives which have caused some factions to engage in civil opposition and protests against the incumbent government and President Lee's Grand National Party.
President Lee Myung-bak has embraced an aggressive approach to foreign policy, driving initiatives such as Green Korea and Global Korea. President Lee conducts frequent state visits to other countries and extends invitations to foreign counterparts to visit Korea since he took office. In 2009 alone Lee visited 14 countries, including the U.S. and Thailand on 11 occasions and attended 38 summits.
As a result of his efforts, the decision to hold the G-20 Summit in Seoul in November 2010 was passed unanimously at the 2009 Pittsburgh summit. In a historic first, South Korea became the first non-G8 country to take the chairmanship of the forum, and in Toronto, President Lee rallied support for his proposal on creating global financial safety nets and addressing development issues. At the G-20 Summit in Seoul this led directly to the unanimous endorsement of the Seoul Development Consensus.
Under his administration, South Korea was admitted to the Development Assistance Committee (DAC). Representatives of the DAC member nations met at the OECD Secretariat in Paris, France in November 2009 and voted unanimously to admit South Korea as the 24th member. The DAC members provide more than 90 percent of the world's aid for impoverished developing nations, and South Korea is the only member nation that has gone from being an aid beneficiary to a donor.
President Lee's diplomatic efforts led to an agreement between KEPCO and the UAE on the construction of a USD$20 billion Korean standard nuclear power plant during his visit to the UAE at the end of 2009.
President Lee also held bilateral summits with the leaders of the United States, Japan, and People's Republic of China to discuss North Korean affairs. In the wake of the ROKS Cheonan sinking a joint declaration was issued by the G-8 leaders condemning the North. President Lee succeeded in bringing the Cheonan incident to the forefront in the Chair's Statement for the Asia-Europe Meeting in 2010 at Brussels, drawing member nation support for the South Korean government's stance on North Korea's nuclear issue and stability in Northeast Asia. In addition, President Lee urged Japanese Prime Minister Kan Naoto to put his words on August 15, Korea's Liberation Day into action. Regular reunions of the families separated by the Korean War drew attention as an international issue after being included in the Chair's Statement.
Under the Lee Myung-bak Administration, South Korea successfully concluded a free trade agreement with the European Union on July 1, 2011.
