Uttaranchal Tourism: Haridwar, Har-ki-Pauri
Har Ki Pauri is a famous ghat on the banks of the Ganges in Haridwar in Uttarakhand state in India. This revered place is the major landmark of the holy city of Haridwar. Literally, "Har" means "Lord Shiva", "ki" means "of" and "pauri" means "steps". Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are believed to have visited the Brahmakund in Har ki Paudi in the Vedic times. There is a large footprint said to belong to Lord Vishnu on a stone wall.
It is believed that it is precise spot where the Ganges leaves the mountains and enters the plains. The ghat is on the west bank of Ganges canal through which the Ganges is diverted just to the north. Har ki pauri is also the area where thousands of pilgrims converge and the festivities commence during the Kumbha Mela, which takes place every twelve years, and the Ardh Kumbh Mela, which takes place every six.

Tour of Haridwar and Rishikesh (Part 1)
In Sanskrit, Haridwar stands for Dwara of Hari or Gateway to God, where 'Hari' means God and 'dwar' means gate. In ancient times, the city was referred to as Gangadwára, the place where the Ganges descends to the plains
A paradise for nature lovers, Haridwar presents a kaleidoscope of Indian culture and civilization. In the scriptures it has been variously mentioned as Kapilsthan, Gangadwar and Mayapuri. It is also an entry point to the Char Dham (the four main centers of pilgrimage in Uttarakhand viz, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri), hence, Shaivaites (followers of Lord Shiva) and Vaishnavites (followers of Lord Vishnu) call this place Hardwar and Haridwar respectively, corresponding to Har being Shiv and Hari being Vishnu
"Hṛṣīkeśa" is a name of Vishnu that means 'lord of the senses'. The place gets its name after Lord Vishnu who appeared to 'Raibhya Rishi', as a result of his tapasya (austerities), as Lord Hrishikesh. In Skanda Purana, this area is known as 'Kubjamrak' as Lord Vishnu appeared, under a mango tree. The name Rishikesh is loosely applied to an association of five distinct sections encompassing not only the town but also hamlets and settlements on both sides of the river Ganges. These include Rishikesh itself, the commercial and communication hub; the sprawling suburb Muni-ki-Reti or the "sands of the sages"; Shivananda Nagar the home of Sivananda Ashram and the Divine Life Society founded by Swami Sivananda, north of Rishikesh; the temple section of Lakshman Jhula, a little further north; and the assorted Ashrams around Swarg Ashram on the east bank. One can reach the famous Neelakanta Maha Deva Temple from here. The Ganga Arati performed at dusk at the Triveni Ghat is popular with visitors. 'Neelkanth Mahadev Temple', situated 12 km from Rishikesh, amidst forest is also a popular local pilgrimage, along with 'Vasishtha Gufa', (Cave of sage Vasishtha), 21 km up from the town by the Ganges.

During the 2° video dedicated to Haridwar will see a kind of parade of people involved in this great ceremony, the group's Pamela, Roberto, Antonella Giuliano, Francesca, Marina, Marco, Marcella, Eugene, Franca, Fabrizio and Alberta , follow ...
The Kumbha Mela is the temporary establishment of a celestial city, the construction of a collective dream, the manifestation of the wonderful life on earth of men tied to God
And 'the meeting of Sadhus and pilgrims from all corners of India and currently the world.
in this vast city of tents the sadhus and saints, INDIA, ARE THE STAR OF THE SHOW. The Kumbha Mela is without doubt the most important event in the life of a Sadhu. Is held in Allahabad, Ujjain, Haridwar and Nasik, in cycles of twelve years, alternating so that, approximately every three years to keep a Kumbha Mela. The twelve-year cycle is related to the movement of the planet Jupiter through the zodiac, and when Jupiter enters Aquarius (Kumbha), the condition is more favorable. However, to complicate matters, is also connected with the solar cycle, when the sun enters Capricorn or in the air, so that only experienced astrologers can fix the exact dates, but the final decision rests with the Naga Baba, especially at Juna Akhar.

Burning human corpses at Chandi Ghat, Haridwar
Burning corpses at Chandi Ghat in Haridwar. Dead bodies are cremated by Hindus, in the open and next to the Ganga or Ganges river, at this cremation ground in one of the holiest of holy Hindu cities of north India. The ashes are then consigned next door, into the river, and have no further journey time, unlike ashes from other cremations that take place across India, which needs to be carried to the Ganges river (ideally).
Cremation ground workers tend to the fires that are burning simultaneously on various different pyres in this open-air cremation ground. This was filmed in the peak of the summer of 2011 - imagine standing next to a cremation fire, with its leaping flames, when the outside temperature is 47 degrees Celcius, even without the fire, and that too as it is measured in the shade!

Sampooran Haridwar Yatra | Directed by Ramesh Panwar
Haridwar is regarded as one of the seven holiest places to Hindus. According to the Samudra manthan, Haridwar along with Ujjain, Nasik and Allahabad is one of four sites where drops of Amrit, the elixir of immortality, accidentally spilled over from the pitcher while being carried by the celestial bird Garuda. This is manifested in the Kumbha Mela being celebrated every 3 years in one of the 4 places, and thus every 12 years in Haridwar. Amidst the Kumbha Mela, millions of pilgrims, devotees, and tourists congregate in Haridwar to perform ritualistic bathing on the banks of the river Ganges to wash away their sins to attain Moksha. Brahma Kund, the spot where the Amrit fell, is located at Har ki Pauri (literally, "footsteps of the Lord") and is considered to be the most sacred ghat of Haridwar.
