Magdalena River
The Magdalena River (Spanish: Río Magdalena)) is the principal river of Colombia, flowing northward about 1,540 kilometres (950 miles) through the western half of the country. It takes its name from the biblical figure, Mary Magdalene. It is navigable through much of its lower reaches, in spite of the shifting sand bars at the mouth of its delta, as far as Honda, at the downstream base of its rapids. It flows through the Magdalena River Valley.

Entry from: Puerto Nariño, Colombia Entry Title: "The Amazonias" Entry: "We took a morning flight to Leticia which is the southernest point in Colombia and is also sat in the middle of the Amazon jungle. The thickly forested region of Colombias Amazon is unknown territory, it accounts for a third of the national territory, as large as California. It is mostly rainforest, criscrossed by rivers and only lightly populated by scattered indigenous communities. Most of the Amazon territory is held by guerrilla groups and realistically the only place accessible in the Colombian Amazon is the border town of Leticia. Leticia lies on a triboarder area, with the similiar town of Tabatinga, Brazil vertually merging together and across the river the island of Santa Rosa, Peru. You can cross into these towns very easy without boarder checkpoints, visas etc as long as you dont go any further within the countries. As soon as we disembarked the plane the heat hit us like a brick wall. After we were charged the usual tourist tax to enter and the rip off taxi journey into town we soon realised we didnt have a clue about where to stay or what the plan was. We spent the next three hours in an internet cafe trying to find suitable accomodation whilst one of us would run the streets to find the researched place, with <b>...</b>

Entry from: Choroni, Venezuela Entry Title: "Into the rain forrest" Entry: "Today, we got up early to take a day trip into the Henri Pitter national park, with the owner of the next door hostel, Claudia who also happens to be mine and Imo´s new favourite person ever. The park is beautiful, despite bering right on the coast, its very hilly which is apparently responsible for the priviliged climate of Puerto Colombia. It looks a bit like jurassic park, though so far no velociraptors, which as I´m sure my housemates understand makes me happy. Imo got really excited when Claudia (our guide) was telling us all about the micro climates and bio-diversity (which actually was quite interesting, but not interesting enough for me to write here...maybe Imo will!). We walked a mile or so across a stream and up the valley and then followed round in a U for 17km which took us to a sugar cane plantation. The way the sugar cane is harvested and processed hasn´t changed in about 200 years and the 5 or so workers working the factory (which is actually a sort of bamboo shack amoungst the cane) were all from the same family and lived in the surrounding hills. After that, we turned downhill and walked to our guide´s house where after some cold drinks, we went swimming in the stream lower down the valley. Pretty perfect all <b>...</b>
