This film was the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) winner of the 2009 award for the Best British Independent Film. Director Duncan Jones was also awarded the BIFA Douglas Hickox Award. The film was also nominated for two BAFTAs at the 2010 awards. CAST
Sam Rockwell as Sam Bell
Kevin Spacey as the voice of GERTY
Dominique McElligott as Tess Bell
Kaya Scodelario as Eve Bell
Benedict Wong as Lunar Industries' Thompson
Matt Berry as Lunar Industries' Overmeyers
Malcolm Stewart as 'The Technician'
Robin Chalk as Sam Bell Clone
Storyline:
Sam Bell infer that, instead of spending extensive money to train and launch a new miner into space, Lunar Industries simply found a way to make clones of the man who already knew how to do it. It is never explained whether the real Sam Bell was told about the cloning plan, or if his genetic material was simply stolen from him, covertly.
The sick Sam then takes a rover beyond the range of the signal jamming and calls home. Obscuring his videophone's camera, he is shocked when his daughter Eve, now 15 years old, answers. He learns that Tess died "some years ago". Before Eve can get her father to deal with her mysterious caller, Sam hangs up, but not before hearing his own, real voice talking in the background. He breaks down into tears.

Clint Mansell - Sacrifice (Moon O.S.T.)
Trailer version.
Moon (2009) Original Soundtrack. A sci fi movie directed by Duncan Jones depicts a story of a lonely Moon worker: Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) contracted to work for three years on a Moon base. Two weeks before his trip back home he discovers someone else on the Moon, someone who looks exactly like him. Sam Bell starts to lose his mind as he cannot understand any of this.
I highly recommend watching this movie, it's a sci-fi piece which is something we've been waiting for a long time. A fascinating story of a lonely worker cut off from his family for 3 years just to support them. His final days on the Moon mining base turn into a maelstrom of confusion and questioning himself as he discovers someone who looks exactly like him.Clint Mansell's music score represents the movie beautifully. If you're looking for a movie which will blind you with CGI, you're in the wrong place. Moon is thought provoking, brilliant and a true sci-fi movie that all fans of the genre have been waiting for

~~ Review Script ~~
Moon, directed by Duncan Jones - son of iconic pop rock singer David Bowie is an ambitious entry into the independent film market, and it made a big splash when it was released last year. Set in the unspecified distance future, Sam Rockwell is Sam Bell, who is part astronaut, and part glorified maintenance worker. Sam is stationed on the far side of the moon, and is responsible for overseeing an automated mining operation taking place. Besides a friendly robot voiced with just the right amount of care from Kevin Spacey, Sam has been on the moon, entirely by himself for almost 3 years. The focus of the movie from the first scene is really about Sam's internal emotional struggle with isolation, being unable to communicate with anyone on earth, except in some pre-recorded messages. But seeing a man experience life in isolation, and dealing with those emotions is nothing new in cinema, however things get interesting when after a Lunar-roving accident, Sam discovers he has a clone. From there, the movie sort of muddles its way along trying to figure out if it's supposed to be a somber version of multiplicity - or a the moon's first corporate mystery thriller. At first, I was really drawn into this movie. It's deliberately slow pace kept me guessing for most of the first hour. It was very obvious that there was going to be a few major twists on the way, but figuring out how they'd play out made this serious science-fiction movie quite interesting. In what literally amounts to the entire 97 minute run time, Sam Rockwell is alone on camera talking to himself. The precision in the emotional subtly he exhibits really impresses in this film - which is paramount to the success of this one-man-show of a movie. On a surprisingly small budget of just 5 million, the special-effects in Moon, especially in sequences where Sam is carrying out entire scenes with his cloned counter-part are visually stunning, and remarkably flawless. You forget entirely that Sam Rockwell is playing both lead characters here. Moon wasn't all sunshine however - as I was a bit disappointed and unmoved by the final act. The way the plot wraps itself up is an obvious, and forgone conclusion - and is unfortunately slow getting there. With it's serious-tone, the psychological exploration of human loneliness, Moon is a welcome change of pace in the Sci-Fi genre, and quite refreshing given most of the dumbed down material Hollywood is producing these days. Aside from losing steam in the final act, I felt Moon was a mysterious and visually captivating film - but far too often, the events and situations felt a bit too familiar to really excite me.

PLEASE WATCH IN HD FULL SCREEN w/SOUND. It is a much better viewing experience. Hopefully you have a 1080P monitor and good connection. If not, bug a friend or colleague that does. It is worth it.
Landscapes: Volume 2 is the second of a three part series. Every frame of this video is a raw still from a Canon 5D2 DSLR and processed with Adobe software. In Volume 2 I again show off my beautiful home state of Arizona and I also made several trips to Utah. This video has some iconic landmarks that we have seen before. I felt that showing them again with motion controlled HDR and/or night timelapse would be a new way to see old landmarks.
Sales Pitch: I would now have to say that my timelapse skill set is very complete. The amount of knowledge I have gained through research, testing, and shooting experience is astounding. From moon phases to high dynamic range to motion control rigs to noise reduction, you would have a tough time finding someone with more overall knowledge of timelapse. If you need help with your next timelapse project you can reach me at 888-444-2739 or DustinF@crewwestinc.com
Most of the motion control for this video was done with the Stage Zero Dolly by Dynamic Perception. Once I got comfortable using the DP dolly I fell in love. I can set up shots now in much shorter times. More importantly for me, it is much smaller and much more portable than my homemade motion control. Without it, shots like the Delicate Arch shot in Utah would be nearly impossible due to the length of the hike. Buy the Stage Zero Dolly if you are looking for quality, inexpensive, easy-to-use motion control. http://dynamicperception.com/
In addition to the Stage Zero, I also used a three axis motion controlled CamTram. The CamTram is the most versatile dolly I have ever used. Its applications are only limited by your creativity. The CamTram has virtually no weight limit. I was able to achieve shots that dolly-in with the camera just over the ground because of the CamTram's ability to hold heavy counter weights.

This was filmed between 29th April and 10th May 2011 in the Arctic, on
the archipelago Lofoten in Norway.
My favorite natural phenomenon is one I do not even know the name of, even after talking to meteorologists and astrophysicists I am none the wiser. What I am talking about I have decided to call The Arctic Light and it is a natural phenomenon occurring 2-4 weeks before you can see the Midnight Sun.
The Sunset and Sunrise are connected in one magnificent show of color and light lasting from 8 to 12 hours. The sun is barely going below the horizon before coming up again. This is the most colorful light that I know, and the main reason I have been going up there for the last 4 years, at the exact
same time of year, to photograph. Based on previous experience, I knew this was going to be a very
difficult trip. Having lost a couple of cameras and some other equipment up there before, it was crucial to bring an extra set of everything. I also
made sure I had plenty of time in case something went wrong.
If you can imagine roping down mountain cliffs, or jumping around on slippery rocks covered in seaweed with 2 tripods, a rail, a controller,
camera, lenses, filters and rigging for 4-5 hour long sequences at a time, and then
having to calculate the rise and fall of the tides in order to capture the essence - it all proved bit of a challenge.
And almost as if planned, the trip would turn out to become very
difficult indeed. I had numerous setbacks including: airline lost my
luggage, struggling to swim ashore after falling into the Arctic sea: twice, breaking lenses, filters, tripod, computer, losing the whole dolly rig and controller into the sea, and even falling off a rather tall rock and ending
up in the hospital. As much as I wanted to give up, the best way Out is
always “Through”. I am glad I stuck it through though because there were some amazing sunrises waiting. At 1:06 you see a single scene from day to night to day which is from 9pm to 7am. Think about that for a minute.. 10 hours with light like that.
I asked the very talented Marika Takeuchi to specifically compose and
perform a song for this movie, and what she came up with is absolutely remarkable. Thank you very much Marika!
