BE MY LADY - Bobbikins (A Tribute To Hilda Koronel)
HILDA KORONEL or SUSAN REID MOORE in real life is a rare breed of Beauty-and-Brains,
A-List Actress in
Philippine Cinema.
As a
Tribute to HILDA KORONEL's successful acting career, I am dedicating the song BE MY LADY to her (which for me
it is BE MY IDOL or BE MY
STAR).
HILDA KORONEL was a contract star of
LEA PRODUCTIONS. In fact, LESLIE is HILDA's first movie with LEA when she was 12 years old. LESLIE is headed by
Liza Lorena,
Boots Anson-Roa and
Dante Rivero.
I saw the movie LESLIE in
Malabon City,
Metro Manila (formerly
Malabon,
Rizal), and still remember HILDA's brief appearance in LESLIE. Though it was a small role, it was enough to notice her presence. I knew beforehand that she would be a
Big Star, and eventually, an award winning Actress! And HILDA did.
After LESLIE, HILDA played the role of HAYDEE, the
Movie Title of her
First Starring Role and as a
Lead Star. She was paired with ED FINLAN. And when the movie was shown, it was a box-office hit.
After HAYDEE, HILDA did several memorable movies under LEA PRODUCTIONS, and they are as follows:
HAPPY, HIPPIE, HOLIDAY with Ed Finlan
SANTIAGO with
Fernando Poe Jr.
TUBOG SA GINTO with
Jay Ilagan
NOW with
Tirso Cruz III
ANG GANGSTER AT ANG BIRHEN with Dante Rivero
CADENA DE AMOR with Dante Rivero
CRUSH KO SI
SIR! with Dante Rivero
STARDOOM with the late
Walter Navarro
VILLA MIRANDA with the late
Lou Salvador, Jr.
CHERRY BLOSSOM with
Nicolas Hammond (star of
Sound of Music and
Spider Man)
TILL
DEATH DO US
PART with
Victor 'Cocoy'
Laurel
TARARADYIN POT-POT with
Dolphy
Though HILDA and I both lived in Malabon City, Metro Manila in one
point in time,
I never saw her in Malabon But I managed to see her many times in the
School where we went to, and that is MANUEL LUIS QUEZON UNIVERSITY aka MLQU.
In
Canada, I was glad to watch HILDA's memorable movies in
DVD, and very happy to learn that she still makes relevant movies. Several years ago, I managed to see HILDA's movie with
Sharon Cuneta entitled CRYING LADIES at
Carlton Cinema located in downtown
Toronto.
HILDA is one Actress who made an indelible mark in the
History of Philippine Cinema. I wish her more good movies to come!
