Peter Bottomley on expat state pension unfairness.
dianelvin asked Peter Bottomley: Dear Mr Bottomley In your opinion, how on earth can we stop the frozen state pension unfairness? Courts do not understand the issue and even judges in the ECHR do not understand. Around the world there are British state pensioners in their eighties and nineties who have lost heart and faith in the UK system, as I have, although I am back in the UK with my pension re-instated. Writing letters for over seven years, I have got nowhere. Others have been battlibng for longer. The NIF would cover fully indexed pensions but is used as if it is a general tax and not as an insurance contribution. Some disillusioned OAPs in, for example, Australia, await your advice!

Are poltical parties just interested in their own survival?
RJMPolitics asked:Sir alan Beith MP, Peter Bottomley MP, Douglas Carswell MP, Alexandra Runswick: Lib Dems support PR, a system that would win them more seats. Meanwhile David Cameron has previously proposed redrawing constituency boundaries and reducing the amount of MPs - which would both make it easier to achieve a Conservative majority. Do parties really care about representation or are they just interested in political survival?

Would a new electoral system create tensions among MPs?
StevenG asked: Sir alan Beith MP, Peter Bottomley MP, Douglas Carswell MP, Alexandra Runswick: AV+ is sometimes touted as a compromise option between our current system and PR. However, I feel it would only create tensions or logistic difficulties between the two types of MPs - those who are linked to a constituency, and others who have been selected from a top-up list. Are these problems avoidable?

Tyrannosaur ~ Trailer
Joseph (Peter Mullan) is an unemployed widower with a drinking problem, a man crippled by his own volatile temperament and furious anger. Hannah (Olivia Colman) is a Christian worker at a charity shop, a respectable woman who seems wholesome and happy. When circumstance brings the pair together, Hannah appears as Joseph's guardian angel, tempering his fury and offering him warmth, kindness and acceptance. As their relationship develops, Hannah's own secrets are revealed--her husband (Eddie Marsan) is violent and abusive--and Joseph emerges as her unlikely savior. With striking performances and a deeply felt story, actor-turned-writer/director Paddy Considine's film is a stunning debut about the emergence of grace and redemption from the least likely of places. Genre: Art House & International/Drama Rating: NR Release Date: November 18, 2011 Running Time: 91 minutes Director: Paddy Considine Cast: Peter Mullan, Olivia Colman, Eddie Marsan, Paul Popplewell, Ned Dennehy, Sally Carman, Samuel Bottomley, Sian Breckin, Paul Conway, Julia Mallam Bio and/or Filmography Peter Mullan: www.imdb.com Olivia Colman: www.imdb.com Eddie Marsan: www.fandango.comClip from the song "Give it Up (Start Again) (ft. Honoured by the Queen and Runnymede
THOSE HONOURED BY THE QUEEN DISCUSS BARRIERS TO RACE EQUALITY People of all backgrounds who were recently honoured by the Queen for their work to improve our society came together this week to discuss ideas for achieving race equality. The roundatable discussion, which was held in the House of Commons on Tuesday 15 March 2011, was hosted by Conservative MP Peter Bottomley and organised by leading race equality think tank the Runnymede Trust. The debate was not short of ideas, which is unsurprising as the guests were the leading lights across the private, public and voluntary and community sectors.

Women (Government Policies) - Opposition Day - 08/06/2011 - James Gray MP
Mr James Gray (North Wiltshire) (Conservative): rose— Yvette Cooper (Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford) (Labour): I give way to the hon. Gentleman; I hope that he can defend the proposals. Mr Gray: I am grateful to the right hon. Lady for giving way. As one of the two Conservative men who signed the early-day motion on this subject, the other being my hon. Friend the Member for Worthing West (Sir Peter Bottomley), I very much sympathise with the point that she is making on behalf of women born in 1953 and 1954—like me; 1954 was a vintage year. Does she not regret that in the motion she has chosen to make a broad sideswipe at the Government that is much less well thought through than her point about that particular cohort of women? Had she focused her attention on that, she might well have found one or two of us joining her in the Lobby. Yvette Cooper: I apologise for my slightly aggressive reaction to the hon. Gentleman when he stood up; I should have checked the EDM beforehand. I commend him for his defence of his vintage, of all sexes. He is right that this issue is of extreme concern, and I hope that we will have further opportunities to vote on it. ================================================================================= For more information about James Gray MP's work in Westminster and Wiltshire, please visit www.jamesgray.org ( www.jamesgray.org )
