Kidney Function
The Kidneys are a bean shaped, fist size organ whose task is to filter blood and remove the waste. The blood enters the kidneys via the Renal Artery and leaves via the Renal Vein. Inside each kidney, blood is channeled into a million tiny filters, called a glomerulus (the plural is glomeruli). Glomeruli are joined to small tubes (tubules) to make nephrons and each nephron is surrounded be a network of capillaries. At the end of each nephron is the Glomerulus, contained in a cup-shaped Bowman's Capsule. It is here that urine is formed.
Kidney function is divided into three parts: Filtration, Re-absorption & Secretion. In the course of the day 150 litres (33gallons) of filtrate passes into the nephrons - As the fluid passes along these tubes, small molecules such as fats, sugars, salts, amino-acids pass from the capillary into the tubules. Protein molecules, too large and hence are passed out into the blood. After Filtration the fluids of filtrates, is taken back into the blood stream (reabsorbed) which 100 times the average daily amount of urine.
During Secretion hydrogen & Potassium ions are removed from the blood and added to the filtrates to be excreted as urine. Where it finally goes into the ureter and down into the bladder.
The Kidneys, balance the fluid and chemical levels in the body. Retain valuable substances, release Hormones, control Blood Pressure, make red blood cells, and maintain healthy bones and teeth.
Ageing taxes the Urinary System. Learn to lessen the ageing by adapting a healthy life style. This is achieved through taking enough rest, drinking adequate fluids, avoiding smoking, drink less alcohol, eat a proper & balance diet and get regular exercise.
To improve the function of the kidneys it is important to keep it healthy and clean. remove the build up of debrey from within. this will assist the kidneys and enhance the task. I personally recommend to drink 3 cups of Herbal Kidney Tea a day. Herbal Kidney tea is also know to assist those suffering from Prostrate problems and control Blood Pressure.

Foods to Avoid for Keeping Kidneys Healthy
Foods Good for Your Kidneys - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats.
The five foods that you want to avoid to prevent kidney disease are really important because kidney disease is really prominent in the US and more and more people are being diagnosed with kidney disease. The two major causes are: diabetes is the number one cause of kidney disease, and then high blood pressure, hypertension.
So, for the high blood sugar, you want to make sure that you control it. If you are a diabetic, you have to get that under control. If you are genetically dispositioned for it, or you are pre-diabetic, you really want to get on top of it and stay ahead of the game. And the easiest way to do that is to avoid refined carbohydrates. And when I say refined, I mean things like white flour, white bread, rice, white pastas. Controlling these in the diet really helps to make a big difference in reducing the blood sugar levels.
The other one is soda. There has been a lot of recent research that shows as little as two sodas a day can increase kidney disease by 30%, and that is pretty significant. Okay, so remember the second cause of kidney disease is hypertension/ high blood pressure. Most sodium does not come from the salt shaker that you put on your food. It is sort of hidden. And a big source of that is fast foods.
Fast foods are loaded with sodium. They act as a preservative, and a flavor enhancer, so that is why they are in there. The other one is frozen dinners. And I am not talking about frozen vegetables. There is usually not any sodium in there, but it is the frozen meals and frozen dinners that are very high.
And the third one is canned foods. In canned foods, the sodium is in there as a preservative, so if you are looking for canned foods, always look for the low sodium versions, or just try the natural approach instead.

!!!KIDNEY MODEL AND FUNCTION!!! (KIDNEY FILTRATION & REABSORPTION) SCIENCE EXPERIMENT
Crazy Chris shows you how you dont have to be a wiz, to understand how kidneys work with this super wicked kool kidney model you can make right at home!
Objection: To understand the importance of the kidneys and how they work by filtration of the blood through reabsorption as well as what the components of urine are.
Materials Needed:
- 2 Half L Water Bottles
- Scissors
- 12 coffee filters
- Clay
- Pen or Pencil
- Ruler
- Large Sheet of Carboard
- Funnel
- Plastic Container
- Fish Tank Tubing
- Tape
- Red Food Coloring
- Water
Step 1) Cut the bottomes off of the half L water bottles. Fill the mouth of the bottle with some clay & poke a pen or pencil through the clay.
Step 2) Cut a 30cm section of the fish tank tubing and insert the fish tank tubing in the clay hole and tighten the clay around the tube both inside & outside the bottle. Test the tube for leaks by pouring water into the container.
Step 3) Put 12-16 of the "THICKEST" coffee filters you can fine, into each kidney model.
Step 4) Attach the kidney models & the funnel using tape to the carboad and place the tubes into the funnel. Place a plastic container below the funnel
Step 5) Drip "1 DROP" of food coloring into some water, mix this and pour a small amount of the water into the kidney model. "DO NOT" pour the entire container of water into the kidney model, only pour small amounts each time.
HOW DOES IT WORK:
The water flows through the coffee filters but the food coloring gets absorbed by the coffee filters which is why the water comes out clear & not red similar to how your kidneys filter your blood stream. Blood is broughto to the kidneys via the renal artiers. Once inside the kidneys the blood passes through a million tiny filters known as nephrons. The blood is under so much pressure that most of the plasma leaks out of the blood stream leaving mostly just the blood cells. Your kidney then go through a re-absorbtion process which allows only the plasma to be returned to the blood stream. Dangerous chemicals, uneeded chemicals and excess water are sent down the ureters to be stored in the bladder. The feeling you need to drain your bladder comes from the pressure of surounding organs as the bladder fills up.
