Lyrics:
I've always said that one's enough to love
Now I hear you're bragging one is not enough
Something tells me you're not satisfied
You got plans to make me one of four or five
I guess this kind of thing's just in your blood
But you won't catch me carving up my love
I ain't no puzzle piece that needs to fit
If it takes more than me let's call it quits
`Cause I don't wanna go on with you like that
Don't wanna be a feather in your cap
I just wanna tell you honey I ain't mad
But I don't wanna go on with you like that
It gets so hard sometimes to understand
This vicious circle's getting out of hand
Don't need an extra eye to see
That the fire spreads faster in a breeze
And I don't wanna go on with you like that
Don't wanna be a feather in your cap
I just wanna tell you honey I ain't mad
But I don't wanna go on with you like that
No I don't wanna go on with you like that
One more set of boots on your welcome mat
You'll just have to quit them if you want me back
`Cause I don't wanna go on with you like that
Oh if you wanna spread it around sister that's just fine
But I don't want no second hand feeding me lines
If you wanna hold someone in the middle of the night
Call out the guards, turn out the light

Elton John - A Word In Spanish
Lyrics: Bernie Taupin, Elton John
Album: Reg Strikes Back (1988)
I don't know why
I just know I do
I just can't explain
In this language that I use
Something leaves me speechless
Each time that you approach
Each time you glide right through me
As if I was a ghost
If I only could tell you
If you only would listen
I've got a line or two to use on you
I've got a romance we could christen
And there's a word in Spanish I don't understand
But I heard it in a film one time spoken by the leading man
He said it with devotion, he sounded so sincere
And the words he spoke in spanish brought the female lead to tears
A word in Spanish, a word in Spanish
If you can't comprehend
Read it in my eyes
If you don't understand it's love
In a thin disguise
And what it takes to move you
Each time that you resist
Is more than just a pretty face
To prove that I exist
If I only could tell you
If you only would listen
I've got a line or two to use on you
I've got a romance we could christen
And there's a word in Spanish I don't understand
But I heard it in a film one time spoken by the leading man
He said it with devotion, he sounded so sincere
And the words he spoke in spanish brought the female lead to tears
A word in Spanish, a word in Spanish
When manners make no difference
And my gifts all lay undone
I trade my accent in on chance
And fall back on a foreign tongue
And there's a word in Spanish I don't understand
But I heard it in a film one time spoken by the leading man
He said it with devotion, he sounded so sincere
And the words he spoke in spanish brought the female lead to tears
A word in Spanish, a word in Spanish
There's a word in Spanish, a word in Spanis

8. Tiny Dancer (Elton John-Live In Miami: 9/9/1988)
Alright ladies and gentlemen! Now that I've gotten my UK 1985 uploads completed, it's time to move on to new eras! During the spring and summer months of this year, I will be participating in debates ranging from the Reg Strikes Back debate--to the Big Picture debate! Over the next several weeks, you will see a wide variety of uploads (a decent amount will be focused on those two eras)!
For my first upload, I will be uploading a concert that not only was requested to me several times, but since it's such a special concert--I have to upload it! This is the very first show on Elton's Reg Strikes Back tour of 1988-1989, and it is one of Elton's finest vocal shows of the late 80s! Although the concert is complete, the quality isn't too hot (to make matters worse--the tape degrades after "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding"). If there is a positive about the quality, Elton's voice is fairly easy to hear (even when the quality worsens)!
For the Reg Strikes Back Tour, Elton has parted ways with his beloved Steinway piano (I love that piano) and replaced it with a Roland RD-1000 digital keyboard. While this new keyboard works wonderful on his then-current songs (the late 80s and early 90s stuff), it doesn't sound as good on some older songs (where you need a "real" piano to get the maximum musical effect). He also changed his band considerably (the only members left from previous bands are Davey Johnstone and Fred Mandel) which gives the older songs a more soul/R&B; flavor to them. He also was promoting two albums on this tour ("Live In Australia" and "Reg Strikes Back") which makes for a very interesting set-list!
Now for Elton's section! This is the first full show he did after his vocal cord surgery (the Aids Benefit Show from 1988 was a "test" gig), and the results are fantastic! His voice is fully healed from the operation, he has a richer tone compared with his pre-surgery voice. Although the operation was a success, there are a couple lasting effects: His vocal stamina is slightly reduced (which would become a big problem as the tour progresses), and some of his vocal register switching isn't as clean (although that's not too noticeable unless his voice is shot out). Despite that, his voice still sounds strong after the surgery and many false statements ("He lost his falsetto after surgery," "He can't sustain notes," etc) can be debunked by listening to shows from this tour! For this first show on the tour, Elton's voice is in fantastic shape (although it would quickly deteriorate within a week) and every song sounds great! Now, onto the songs...
"Sixty Years On" sounds fantastic with Elton singing the song clean (unlike some notorious versions from the previous tour and other versions from this tour), "I Need You To Turn To" sounds great, "The King Must Die" is one of the best versions ever (Elton sings the entire song clean), "Burn Down The Mission" uses a drop/conservative phrasing style for this tour (which I don't like too much), but this version is one of the better versions from this era, "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word" has Elton nailing nearly every falsetto part like the pre-surgery days (take that post-surgery haters), "Have Mercy On The Criminal" features some growling--but it's nowhere near as bad as future versions (**cough Chicago cough**), "Love Lies Bleeding" has Elton completely nailing the song like the prime live era, "Tiny Dancer" has Elton singing the original lyrics and displaying great phrasing choices (which makes this one of the best post-surgery versions), "The Ballad Of Danny Bailey (1909-34)" sounds epic and shits all over the 70s versions, "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" sounds excellent, and "Philadelphia Freedom" is one of the best versions from the tour!
"Nikita" sounds so nice at this show (sounds like the UK 1985 versions with a slightly richer voice), "Sad Songs (Say So Much)" is great, "A Word In Spanish" has Elton singing the song clean (unlike certain versions later on), "Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters Part 1" is the best version from the tour (it's the only version where he phrases like it the 70s versions plus he sounds nearly identical to his younger self), "Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters Part 2" has fantastic vocals, "Daniel" sounds nice, "I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That" has Elton in perfect voice to sing the song (plus sings it closer to the studio version compared with other live versions), "Candle In The Wind" combines 1985-1986 phrasing with some new phrasing, and when you add Elton's "new" voice into the performance--it turns into the best version of the song on the tour! "The Bitch Is Back" sounds great, "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" has Elton hitting a C5 on the third chorus, "Your Song" sounds brilliant, and "I'm Still Standing" has Elton goofing up the lyrics--but delivers a great performance in spite of that!
ENJOY!!!

1. Sixty Years On (Elton John - Live in Paris : 3/26/1989)
Whilst working on the upload that I will do next (Baltimore 1980) myself and Gregsynthwizard were talking about this infamous 1989 show so I decided to go back and listen to some of the audio whilst taking a break from Baltimore. What I heard on this made me want to upload this show instantly! The show comes from the first week of the Reg Strikes Back European tour and comes from the city of Paris with it being the fourth show in a row plus it is just after Elton's 42nd birthday! After hearing Lyon and being surprised at how good his voice was there, you would expect the form to continue through the tour... WRONG! Elton's voice sounds bad for the majority of the show with him growling through most of the set although some performances are good! The band sounds nice on this show! Onto the setlist!
Sixty Years On is reminiscent of those Australian versions three years earlier as does I Need You To Turn To, The King Must Die which features plenty of off notes plus lots of growling, Burn Down The Mission which is probably worse than the Sydney version, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word which surprisingly has Elton not sounding too good, Have Mercy On The Criminal where Elton tries to go for high notes but sounds bad, Love Lies Bleeding with Elton sounding alright albeit with some growling, Too Low For Zero which is not a good performance with Elton growling plus the keyboard solo having off notes, I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues which is one of the worst versions of the song as Elton forgets the words plus loses his timing before the final verse with him also growling too much for the song's softness and Philadelphia Freedom with Elton not sounding appealing when singing 'shine the light' notes!
Sad Songs (Say So Much) with one of the worst introductions to the song plus the actual song isn't much better, Kiss The Bride which is just as bad as Mansfield as Elton attempts both C5's with him barely getting them plus some of the worst growling in the song's history ranks this almost as bad as Mansfield, A Word In Spanish which isn't a bad version, Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters Part 1 And 2 where Elton slurs the words in Part 1 with Part 2 not being the best overall, Nikita is actually not a bad performance even with Elton sounding slightly rough towards the end, Daniel which isn't the best version on the tour as it features growling, I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That which has Elton start singing in the wrong part plus horrible growling which doesn't work at all especially on the choruses however to his credit he does sing some nicer notes towards the end of the song, Candle In The Wind which features the stumbling phrasing towards the end but apart from that it's a creditable performance, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting which has phrasing worse than Australia 1986, Your Song which is just like Berlin's version and I'm Still Standing which is surprisingly a good version! Enjoy!
