Stuart Sutcliffe and Astrid Kirchherr Tribute
They were made for each other, weren't they? I made this just because I think they deserve a tribute. Sadly, a lot of people have forgotten about them. I always love seeing tributes to them on YouTube, so I decided to make a video of pictures of them together and Astrid with The Beatles too! Enjoy! BTW Happy late birthday to Stu!!!

Stuart Sutcliffe The Lost Beatle Part 1/4
Stuart Sutcliffe: The Lost Beatle explores the mystique surrounding the Beatles' original bassist, who left the band to follow a different muse and died from a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 22. Told via interviews with an impressive array of Sutcliffe's family and friends--and through uniquely descriptive quotes from his letters--this hour-long documentary reveals a lot of intimate detail about Sutcliffe's transition from promising art-school student in Liverpool (and best friend of John Lennon) to reluctant musician (pressed into service by Lennon) to determined painter within the German avant-garde scene. A lot of Stu's story, as Beatles fans know, is set in Hamburg, during and after the days the group was a house band in the city's red-light district. Familiar tales of friction between Sutcliffe and Paul McCartney abound. But these are offset by a tremendous amount of fresh insight and detail offered by such important Beatles-saga figures as rocker Tony Sheridan, Klaus Voormann and--most crucially--Astrid Kirchherr, the photographer who influenced the Beatles' look and who became Sutcliffe's lover until his death. At art college in Liverpool in 1959, Stuart Sutcliffe met John Lennon and they soon became close -with Lennon persuading Sutcliffe to use the proceeds of a painting he had sold to buy a bass guitar and join his band, along with Paul McCartney and George Harrison. Before long, with drummer Pete Best in the line-up, they won a contract in Hamburg playing ...

Astrid Kirchherr The First Beatles Groupie
Astrid Kirchherr The First Beatles Groupie © www.shanagrant.com Astrid Kirchherr (born 20 May 1938) is a German photographer and artist and is well known for her association with The Beatles (along with her friends Klaus Voormann and Jürgen Vollmer) and her photographs of The Beatles during their Hamburg days. Kirchherr met artist Stuart Sutcliffe in the Kaiserkeller bar in Hamburg in 1960, where he was playing bass with The Beatles, and was later engaged to him before his death in 1962. Although Kirchherr admitted she has taken very few photographs since 1967, her early work has been exhibited in Hamburg, Bremen, London, Liverpool, New York City, Washington DC, Tokyo, Vienna, and at the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Kirchherr has published three limited edition books of photographs. Kirchherr is credited with inventing The Beatles' moptop haircut although she disagrees, saying "All that shit people said, that I created their hairstyle, that's rubbish! Lots of German boys had that hairstyle. Stuart had it for a long while and the others copied it. I suppose the most important thing I contributed to them was friendship." In 1995, Kirchherr told BBC Radio Merseyside: "All my friends in art school used to run around with this sort of what you call Beatles haircut. And my boyfriend then, Klaus Voorman, had this hairstyle, and Stuart liked it very very much. He was the first one who really got the nerve to get the Brylcreem out of his hair and asking me to cut his hair for him ...

Arrow and the Archers - Merseybeat Group - Astrid Kirchherr
Were you ever in a rock n roll group? Here's a loverly little story about how Astrid Kirchherr, an influential friend of the early Beatles, took a liking to the Liverpool group "Arrow and the Archers" (13 year-olds!) and gave them a fantastic, fleeting feeling of fame.

Hamburg Illustrator Arne Bellstorf is the author of Baby's in Black -- the story of Astrid Kirchherr and Stuart Sutcliffe. The graphic novel tells the story of musician and artist Sutcliffe, who was in the Beatles before they shot to stardom. While the Fab Four were in Hamburg to play gigs at the legendary Star Club and other venues Sutcliffe fell in love with German photographer Astrid Kirchher.

In Memoriam Stuart Sutcliffe(1940-1962)
Stuart Fergusson Victor Sutcliffe (23 June 1940 10 April 1962) was a painter and the original electric bass guitarist of The Beatles for fifteen months (May 1960August 1961). Sutcliffe earned praise for his paintings, which mostly explored a style related to abstract expressionism. Sutcliffe is one of the group of people sometimes referred to as "the fifth Beatle". Sutcliffe and John Lennon are credited with coming up with the name for the Beatles, as they both liked Buddy Holly's band, The Crickets. Sutcliffe played with the Beatles in Hamburg, where he met photographer Astrid Kirchherr, to whom he was later engaged. He enrolled in the Hamburg College of Art after leaving The Beatles, and studied under future pop artist Eduardo Paolozzi.

Sheryl Lee The Unforgettable Laura Palmer
Sheryl Lee The Unforgettable Laura Palmer © www.shanagrant.com Sheryl Lee (born April 22, 1967) is an American actress. She came to international attention for her performances as Laura Palmer and Maddy Ferguson on the 1990 cult TV series Twin Peaks and in the 1992 film Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me. She is also known for portraying photographer Astrid Kirchherr in Backbeat and for her role in Vampires, as well as for her television series roles in LA Doctors, Kingpin, One Tree Hill and Dirty Sexy Money. Lee was born in Augsburg, Bavaria, West Germany, the daughter of an artist mother and architect father. She grew up in Boulder, Colorado, United States, where she was a graduate of Fairview High School (class of 1985). Lee is remembered by legions of David Lynch fans for her appearance as the dead Laura Palmer in the cult television series Twin Peaks. When the series was picked up, Lee was also given the part of Laura's cousin Maddy Ferguson later in the series (a role which was reportedly written because Lynch, impressed with her abilities, wanted to give her a fuller role on the show). She also starred in the prequel Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, which elaborated on events leading up to Laura Palmer's death. Other prominent roles have included playing the part of Astrid Kirchherr in the 1994 movie Backbeat, a bio-pic of the early career of The Beatles opposite Stephen Dorff, the part of Liza in Gary Walkow's 1995 adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novella Notes from ...
