Four people have been confirmed dead following an accident at Namanve on the Kampala-Jinja Highway Monday morning. Two people died on the spot, and several were left critically injured. The injured were rushed to National Referral Hospital, Mulago, but the accident has been blamed on over speeding. Residents of Namanve Industrial Park and families of the bereaved woke up to a terrifying morning, after a truck registration number UAG 093L ferrying crates of beer from Kampala to Jinja rammed into a commuter taxi, registration number UAN 206A traveling from Mbale to Kampala. Two people were confirmed to have died on the spot, but by press time, the number of the dead had reached four. Police commandant Kampala East, ASP Moses Mululya explained. The commuter taxi was crushed beyond recognition and repair by the commercial truck that was reported to have run off the road under unclear circumstances. But what do the police preliminary findings on the accident hold? Unfortunately, unscrupulous individuals take such incidents to rob the dead and injured. This time it was different, with this man attempting to run away with one of the tyres of the destroyed commuter taxi, but was intercepted by a police officer on alert. Police is now making an appeal to both drivers and passengers to take caution especially in the build-up to the Christmas and New Year festivities. Surprisingly, a six month old baby was among the survivors, and was rushed to Mulago Hospital for specialized attention.
