Internet Dating Superstuds is the ninth studio album by the southern California punk rock band The Vandals, released in 2002 by Kung Fu Records. It was the band's first album after their permanent move to Kung Fu, after having fulfilled their contract with Nitro Records in 2000. The Kung Fu label had been started in 1996 by Vandals members Joe Escalante and Warren Fitzgerald and had already released a Vandals Christmas album and several re-releases of the band's older material. An independent music video was filmed for the song "43210-1."
Much of the album is characterized by the pop-punk music and humorous lyrics for which the band is known. Its title, artwork and bonus features satirize several aspects of internet culture. The song lyrics printed in the album's liner notes are all partially obscured by depictions of popup ads similar to those encountered while web surfing. As a promotion for the album, the band members held an online contest in which four fans each won a "date" with one of the band members. These "dates" were videotaped and including in the enhanced CD-ROM portion of the CD. Other bonus content in this portion of the album includes a photo gallery and unobscured lyrics.
The Vandals are a punk rock band from the United States established in 1980 in Huntington Beach, California. They have released ten full-length studio albums and two live albums and have toured the world extensively, including performances on the Vans Warped Tour. They are well known for their use of humor, preferring to use their music as a vehicle for comedy and sarcasm rather than as a platform for more serious issues. As of 2000, they have been signed to Kung Fu Records.
The band's lineup fluctuated significantly over their first nine years, though founding members Steven Ronald Jensen, guitarist Jan Nils Ackermann, and first consistent drummer Joe Escalante remained regular fixtures. Of the early members only Escalante has remained through all subsequent incarnations of the band. The current lineup of Escalante, Dave Quackenbush, Warren Fitzgerald, and Josh Freese has remained intact since 1990 and is generally considered far removed from the band's early 1980s incarnation. Since 2002 Escalante has released all of the band's albums through his Kung Fu Records label, with Fitzgerald generally producing.
The Vandals were a late 1970s English rock band from Basildon in South East Essex. Playing in the punk rock style, they are mainly notable for featuring vocalist Alison Moyet; 'Alf' as she was then known, who later found fame as one half of 1980s synthpop act Yazoo. The other members were Robert Marlow, who during his tenure with the band was known as 'the guitarist with no name', two other female backing singers, Kim Forey and Sue Paget (Susan Ryder Paget), who also played bass at the band's later gigs, and Simon Kirk on drums, who was later replaced by John Dee, formerly of Southend band The Machines.
They were mainly active in 1978 and some notable gigs included Leigh-on-Sea's Grand Hotel, Woodlands Youth Centre, Basildon and "Upstairs at Turkans" at the Van Gogh in Basildon. They also made an unscheduled appearance at the 1st Rock Festival held at Gloucester Park, Basildon in August 1978.
The Vandals were an East Germanic tribe, or group of tribes, who were first heard of in southern Poland, but later moved around Europe establishing kingdoms in Spain and later North Africa in the 5th century.
The Vandals are believed to have migrated from southern Scandinavia to the area between the lower Oder and Vistula rivers during the 2nd century BC and to have settled in Silesia from around 120 BC. They are associated with the Przeworsk culture and were possibly the same people as the Lugii. Expanding into Dacia during the Marcomannic Wars and to Pannonia during the Crisis of the Third Century, the Vandals were confined to Pannonia by the Goths around 330 AD, where they received permission to settle by Constantine the Great. Around 400 the Vandals were pushed westwards again, this time by the Huns, crossing the Rhine into Gaul along with other tribes in 406. In 409, the Vandals crossed the Pyrenees into the Iberian Peninsula, where their main groups, the Hasdingi and the Silingi, settled in Gallaecia and Baetica respectively.
For some reason everyone seems to know this song as (I want to be a Cowboy)
