Snowdon Walk - Pyg Track / Miner's Track - Snowdonia May 2012
Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, is 1085m at its summit and has some of the best views in the UK which are reached using several well used paths. This was a walk we made up to the summit from Pen-y-Pass using the Pyg Track to ascend and the Miner's Track to come back down. We went up on the 25th May 2012 starting at about 9am, and got to the top at about 12.15pm. Weather was absolutely fantastic, no clouds, and the views were outstanding. However, I did get eaten alive by the midges which were crowding around the people at the summit. Will definitely be back to Snowdonia and Snowdon.
For a walk we made around Cwm Idwal:

Dangerous Snowdon Winter Traverse Go Pro Hero 3 footage
I managed to get a day off work for a 1 day visit to my favourite place. I wasn't expecting the snow to be quite as deep! I had no winter technical gear, so it was quite irresponsible of me to continue as I did. I would recommend at least 2 people to attempt this with proper winter tools.
Spectacular day out though, one which will stay with me for a long time.

Walking Mount Snowdon Via The Pyg & Miners' Track. Snowdonia, North Wales.
The Pyg and the Miners Tracks start at the same point. The car park here gets very full, and an early start is essential. It is not known how the Pyg Track got its name - it could be as it passes over the Pigs's Pass (Bwlch y Mocl), because it is close to the Pen y Gwryd Hotel, or because pyg, in welsh, also means pitch, and part of the surface of the path looks like black pitch. Whatever the origin, this path starts 1,170 feet above sea level which gives you a helpful start on the way. Much of this walk is rugged, and very challenging, but the scenery is interesting. The first part of this video shows views from the Pyg Track during the ascent to the summit. Once past the Pigs's Pass, the view down to the left shows the Miners' Track below.
The Miners' Track is a good walk to try if you want to walk on Snowdon but don't want to try to reach the summit as the first part is fairly gentle. Views from the descent using the Miner's Track are featured. It was built during the 1800's to serve Britannia Copper Mines which were abandonned in 1917. Mine Manager Arthur Lockwood drove his car to Llyn Glaslyn, and the track to this point at the lake still resembles a road so is a good walking surface. The track does get considerably steeper towards the summit but was fairly easy on our descent.

Snowdon via the Watkin Path
Our video shows our ascent of Snowdon via the Watkin Path. This is the longest route to the summit and definitely not the easiest route. The walk starts in Nant Gwynant and continues through the picturesque Cwm Llan before climbing the lower slopes of Y Lliwedd towards the summit of Yr Wyddfa, - Snowdon, Bear in mind it was a particularly fine day, not a typical mountain day by any means.
It is classed as a hard mountain walk and the last section to the summit is particularly hard going.

Journey on Snowdon 1,085m / 4:35H ( Luiz Razia )
Snowdon (Welsh: Yr Wyddfa, pronounced [əɾ ˈwɪðva]) is the highest mountain in Wales, at an altitude of 1,085 metres (3,560 ft) above sea level, and the highest point in the British Isles outside Scotland. It is located in Snowdonia National Park (Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri) in Gwynedd, and has been described as "probably the busiest mountain in Britain".[3] It is designated as a national nature reserve for its rare flora and fauna.
The rocks that form Snowdon were produced by volcanoes in the Ordovician period, and the massif has been extensively sculpted by glaciation, forming the pyramidal peak of Snowdon and the arêtes of Crib Goch and Y Lliwedd. The cliff faces on Snowdon, including Clogwyn Du'r Arddu, are significant for rock climbing, and the mountain was used by Edmund Hillary in training for the 1953 ascent of Mount Everest.
Snowdon boasts some of the best views in Britain, and the summit can be reached by a number of well-known paths. The summit can also be reached on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, a rack and pinion railway opened in 1896 which carries passengers the 4.7 miles (7.6 km) from Llanberis to the summit station. The summit also houses a visitor centre called Hafod Eryri, built in 2006 to replace one built in the 1930s.
The name Snowdon is from the Old English for "snow hill", while the Welsh name -- Yr Wyddfa -- means "the tumulus", which may refer to the cairn thrown over the legendary giant Rhitta Gawr after his defeat by King Arthur. As well as other figures from Arthurian legend, the mountain is linked to a legendary afanc (water monster) and the Tylwyth Teg (fairies).

Snowdon Full HD
Something a bit different from me. This is a video I made after a visit to Snowdon (Wales UK) on a particularly beautiful day, inspired by the awesome song '3 Billion Heartbeats'.
Some of the effects are basic as the video was edited and completed and within a few hours of arriving home after the 225 mile round trip to North Wales. I'm happy with the quality of the footage though, from my hacked Lumix GH1 (GH13), the 14-42 kit lens and an Olympus 9-18 m43 lens. Made on a Macbook using Premiere Pro 5 and Magic Bullet Looks.

A Flight Over Mount Snowdon
This video shows a flight from Talybont to Caernarfon in North Wales, along the coast and over the summit of Mount Snowdon.
This was done in my Pegasus XL-Q Microlight. The complete trip done in a day was from Roddige airfield Staffordshire to Caernarfon via Talybont and back again, along with six other Microlights. Total flying time six and a half hours. As you will see the views over Snowdon and along the North Wales coast are stunning. Enjoy!

Mountain biking Snowdon
14th April 2012 - The MTB Pigs hit Snowdon. We were lucky enough to have near perfect weather though we had feared the worst, as weather forecasts were suggesting wind chill temperatures could get as low as -10C! Heading up as early as our farting around would allow, we rode, pushed and carried our way to the Summit. Summit at around 10:30 - perfect for elevenses in the café! We then headed down a fun packed descent along the Rangers Path until we met a bridleway taking us back over the hills into Telegraph valley.
A brake failure on the Rangers Path resulted in an unpleasant crash for Brendan. But also resulted in a stunning bit of entertaining crash video for everyone else! Cheers Brendan!
Wasn't completely happy with the filming. I forgot my camera memory card and had to borrow a couple of other smaller cards to get some filming done. And to add insult to injury the battery emptied on the way down Telegraph Valley!
I decided that Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt music would make a fitting score for the video including classics such as "In the Hall of the Mountain King", "Dance of the Mountain King's Daughter" and the Norwegian Dances.
Music:
Composed by Edvard Grieg for Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt.
Performed by the London Symphony Orchestra & the Oslo Philharmonic Chorus.

Snowdon Summit 26/10/09 13 of 21 Snowdon Train
Snowdon at 3560 feet above sea level , is a majestic and popular summit surrounded by steep glaciated cwms, and sharp ridges. The dozen routes to the peak offer a challenge to every grade of visitor; from those for whom this is their first mountain experience, to the scrambler, climber and winter mountaineer.
The massifve mountain derives its English name from the Saxon Snow Dun, the snow hill or fortress. Located in the Snowdon National Park, it is the highest of the fifteen 3000 footers in Wales, and the highest mountain in both England and Wales, hence its popularity with the general public. In the Welsh language, the Park is called Parc Genedlaethol Eryri, the word Eryri meaning home of eagles.
The highest point on Snowdon is Yr Wyddfa meaning tumulus. The tumulus in question is said to be that of the giant Rhita Gawr killed by the legendary King Arthur. The mountains connections with King Arthur do not stop there; into one of its lakes, Llyn Llydaw, a mortally wounded Arthur threw his sword, the mighty Excalibur (Caledfwlch in Welsh).
Whilst this mythology will never be verified, there are other scars left behind by mans exploitation of the mountain. Many of the track ways are those of the now disused iron mines. The ruins of the miners homes are still very much evident, as are the mines themselves. One should not explorer these dark conduits into the mountains as vertical shafts and rock fall make them extremely hazardous.
Although Snowdon has likely been climbed since time immemorial, the first recorded ascent was by the botanist Thomas Johnson in 1639. During the Victorian period tourists came for the first time to the mountain. Their numbers increasing such, that in 1896, local guides and their ponies were replaced by a steam railway following the more forgiving gradient up from Llanberis. To this day, the Snowdon Mountain Railway carries passenger along the five miles of narrow gauge rack-and-pinion track to the controversial summit café and back.
A word for the wise though and everyone else lol.. KEEP AN EYE ON ALL KIDS at ALL TIMES and NEVER let your thought or eyes drift from them. It's easy to be distracted by the sheer AWESOMENESS of the Aura of the place, its energy and beauty , is of such magnitude... that you can forget .. because you are so in the moment .. with all that is.. its a feeling of reverence , and you are seeing and feeling 'God' expressed.
I am a Pagan, and love the Land Connectivity with Mind , Earth and Spirit and Space, so .. well you know what I mean lol.
This was an awsome shoot of the flypast, I could have been steadier but the terrain is well.... rocky lol..
FIRST AND FOREMOST look after your PARTY... be vigilent, and also mind your pets, especialy if they are old, I saw one dog struggling to make it down ! So be fair to your animal before you decide it can do the journey ok.
OK well the mext thing is HAVE FUN FUN FUN in The Welsh Heartland. We welcome you ALL whoever you are to our backyard , please do not drop litter and Keep Wales and everywhere else CLEAN so everyone can continue to enjoy this Pristine Place
Thanks :)
Snowdon Mountain, Wales Highest Peak. Here Is the Top of Wales, The Pure Primal Streams and the Jaggy Peaky and dangerous place that it is. ALWAYS tell someone you are going to climb, so someone knows your intents. Excerise EXTREME CAUTION Especially on Crib Goch , as it is a razor blade ege, Take supplies and make certain you can cope with weather extremes, be prepared and alet AT ALL TIMES and mindfull of those climbing in your group. Water is Great from the streams, do use it, you will not find sweeter nicer water anywhere. On top is a Cafe to revive in. There is also a Narrow Guage train up there from Llanberis MAKE SURE you dont miss it back if you came with the intent on going back on it.. or you'll have to walk back to Llanberis . Wales... This IS my Back garden Litterally. People ask well why do people wanna do it ?? well these videos do not adequatly portray , the feeing you get when you achieve summit. Thanks guys for the FANTASTIC day now we have a record forever :)) A spectacular achievment, Im sorry half the videos got corrupted there where 44 but 24 uploaded only because they refused to import oh well lol.
There are many routes to the summit of Snowdon
Refreshments and souvenirs of your ascent can be purchased at the Snowdon Mountain Railway café between mid May and the end of October.
