Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge with David
Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge is located in south central Indiana. The name comes from the Muscatatuck River, which means "land of winding waters".It includes 7802 acres near Seymour and a 78-acre parcel, known as the Restle Unit, near Bloomington. Muscatatuck's mission is simple: to restore, preserve, and manage a mix of forest, wetland, and grassland habitat for fish, wildlife, and people. Special management emphasis is given to waterfowl, other migratory birds, and endangered species. Nine miles of refuge roads that are open sunrise to sunset seven days/week attract approximately 185000 visitors to the refuge each year. Wildlife-viewing opportunities are excellent at Muscatatuck, and the refuge is known as an exceptionally fine bird watching site. Wildlife abounds at Muscatatuck, and some animals, like white-tailed deer, raccoon, and turkey, can be seen throughout the year. Over 280 species of birds have been seen at the refuge Water manipulation is an important management tool at Muscatatuck. Many wetland units are connected by pipes and water control structures so that water can be moved between units at different times of the year. Muscatatuck's moist soil units, low open areas surrounded by dikes, are filled with water in the fall and drained in the spring to provide feeding areas for waterfowl and shorebirds. Similarly, green tree units, diked lowland forests, are flooded with water in the fall for waterfowl and drained in the spring to keep the trees ...

Becharof National Wildlife Refuge is a National Wildlife Refuge in the Aleutian Range of the Alaska Peninsula of southwestern Alaska. Becharof National Wildlife Refuge, which covers an area of 1200000 acres (4900 km2), was established in 1980 to conserve major brown bears, salmon, migratory birds, caribou, marine birds, and mammals and to comply with treaty obligations. It lies primarily in the east-central part of Lake and Peninsula Borough, but extends eastward into the mainland portion of Kodiak Island Borough. The refuge is administered from offices in King Salmon. - SUBSCRIBE to Bright Enlightenment www.youtube.com - JOIN the club: www.facebook.com More about Becharof National Wildlife Refuge: The Becharof National Wildlife Refuge covers an area of 1200000 acres (4900 km2). Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Packrafting
From Sept. 2 to 13, 2011, 3 of us travelled from near the headwaters of the Marsh Fk. Canning River to the Beaufort Sea at the mouth of the Okpilak River. We utilized packrafts for the river portions and hiked in between the 4 rivers navigated during the trip. We floated down the Marsh Fk. Canning past it's confluence with the Main Fk. Canning and took out at Cache Ck. , which we hiked up and over to the Saddlerochit River. We followed the Saddlerochit down to Saddlerochit springs and made the hop over to the Hulahula River. Near the Hula's mouth, we hopped over to the Okpilak and paddled out to near Arey Island where we were picked up by boat and taken to Kaktovik. Upon arriving in Kaktovik, we learned that a captain had taken a Bowhead Whale that day. We watched the butchering of the whale and partook in the celebration and feast.

Located in Tinicum Township, the refuge is adjacent to the Philadelphia International Airport. Established in 1972 as the Tinicum National Environmental Center, it was renamed in 1991 after the late H. John Heinz III who had helped preserve Tinicum Marsh. The refuge serves to protect the largest remaining freshwater tidal marsh in Pennsylvania; approximately 350 acres (0.8 km2). When land acquisition is complete, the refuge will consist of 1200 acres (4.9 km2) of varied habitats... The history of Tinicum Marsh, the largest remaining freshwater tidal wetland in Pennsylvania, goes back to 1634 and the region's first settlements. Dutch, Swedish and English settlers diked and drained parts of the marsh for grazing. At that time, the vast tidal marshes stretched over 5700 acres (23 km2). Rapid urbanization since World War I has reduced tidal marshes to approximately 200 acres (0.8 km2). The remnant of this once vast tidal marsh is protected by the refuge. A diked, non-tidal area of 145 acres (0.6 km2), adjacent to the eastern end of Tinicum marsh, was donated by the Gulf Oil Corporation to the City of ...

more at scitech.quickfound.net Public domain film from the National Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. en.wikipedia.org Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge is a 48000 acres (190 km2) National Wildlife Refuge located in the US state of Mississippi, in Noxubee, Oktibbeha, and Winston Counties . The refuge serves as a resting and feeding area for migratory birds and as example of proper land stewardship. Also, the refuge extensively manages land for the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. Land for the Noxubee NWR was obtained in the 1930s through the Resettlement Administration. During the 1930s, the land was controlled by the Bankhead-Jones Farm Tenant Act. In 1940, the land was established as a National Wildlife Refuge in 1940 to ensure the wetlands would continue to be protected, providing migratory bird species and other animals a safe haven. Of the 48000 acres (190 km2) of land, approximately 44500 acres (180 km2) consists of bottomland and upland forest. A variety of species inhabit these lands including quail, deer, and turkey. Two major lakes, Bluff with 1200 acres (4.9 km2) and Loakfoma with 600 acres (2.4 km2) provide much of the wetlands within Noxubee. Additionally, there are four green tree reservoirs and sixteen smaller reservoirs which provide a habitat for wood stork, American alligator, bald eagle and other waterfowl. The refuge partners with nearby Mississippi State ...

Proposed Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge
The Friends of Hackmatack is a grassroots organization of local citizens in Wisconsin and Illinois who believe that the rolling glacial hills, ancient oak groves, diverse wetlands and abundant wildlife of the bi-state area is a national treasure worth preserving for future generations. Our dream is to see a National Wildlife Refuge established that stretches not only across state lines, but across the generations. We believe the refuge will bring not only tourism, jobs and new economic opportunity to our region, but also provide new educational and recreational opportunities to the citizens of both states.
