Minnesota (i/mɪnᵻˈsoʊtə/; locally [ˌmɪnəˈso̞ɾə]) is a state in the Midwestern United States. Minnesota was admitted as the 32nd state on May 11, 1858, created from the eastern half of the Minnesota Territory. The name comes from the Dakota word for "clear blue water". Owing to its large number of lakes, the state is informally known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes". Its official motto is L'Étoile du Nord (French: Star of the North). Minnesota is the 12th largest in area and the 21st most populous of the U.S. States; nearly 60 percent of its residents live in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area (known as the "Twin Cities"), the center of transportation, business, industry, education, and government and home to an internationally known arts community. The remainder of the state consists of western prairies now given over to intensive agriculture; deciduous forests in the southeast, now partially cleared, farmed and settled; and the less populated North Woods, used for mining, forestry, and recreation.
Rochester is a city in the U.S. State of Minnesota and is the county seat of Olmsted County. Located on the Zumbro River's south fork, the city has a population of 106,769 according to the 2010 United States Census. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated that the 2014 population was 111,402. It is Minnesota's third-largest city and the largest city located outside of the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2013, the Rochester metropolitan area has a population of 211,853.
Rochester was platted in 1855. Rochester developed as a stagecoach stop between Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Dubuque, Iowa. When the railroad arrived in the 1860s, it brought new residents and business opportunities. In 1863, Dr. William W. Mayo arrived as the examining surgeon for draftees in the Civil War. The community was named after Rochester, New York.
On August 21, 1883, the Great Tornado demolished much of Rochester, leaving 37 dead and about 200 injured. As there was no medical facility at the time, Mayo and his two sons worked together to care for the wounded. Donations of $60,000 were collected and the Sisters of St. Francis, assisted by Mayo, opened a new facility named St. Marys Hospital in 1889. The Mayo practice grew and is today among the largest and most well-respected medical facilities in the world. Many famous people from around the world, including former Presidents George H. W. Bush, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan, have visited Rochester as patients of the Mayo Clinic. Rochester has also been hit by two F4 tornadoes since 1950 (the first on May 10, 1953 and the other on September 16, 1962.)
Rochester refers to:
Mayo Clinic is a nonprofit medical practice and medical research group based in Rochester, Minnesota. It is the first and largest integrated nonprofit medical group practice in the world, employing more than 3,800 physicians and scientists and 50,900 allied health staff. The practice specializes in treating difficult cases through tertiary care. It spends over $500 million a year on research.
Dr. William Worrall Mayo settled his family in Rochester in 1864 and opened a medical practice that evolved under his sons into Mayo Clinic. Mayo Clinic is widely regarded as one of the world's greatest hospitals and ranked No. 1 on the 2014–2015 U.S. News & World Report List of "Best Hospitals", maintaining a position near the top for more than 20 years. It has been on the list of America's "100 Best Companies to Work For" published by Fortune magazine for eight consecutive years. It continued to achieve this ranking through 2015.
In addition to their flagship hospital in Rochester, the Mayo Clinic has major campuses in Arizona and Florida. The Mayo Clinic Health System also operates affiliated facilities throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

update video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLBwqwHx3UY I was taking pictures of the government center in downtown Rochester MN. I was really interesting in the construction they were doing because it honestly looked extremely unsafe. A very nice security guard talked to me a little bit from the fire department. He was quite professional and was a good guy. You can see him at 4:14. After that, 2 plainclothes officers came up to me. They wouldn't let me get my phone out of my pocket, i told them what I was doing and slowly did it anyway. He swiped for it as I unlocked it to begin recording. The first thing he says is to put my phone away. I got detained for about 10-15 minutes after I refused to identify. I plan to follow up with a complaint since none of the officers knew basic identi...

My first long winter flight in Rochester, MN. Shot between 4:30 and 6pm I thought I would get good footage of downtown employees trying to escape. Traffic?! It's not really that bad, especially if you drove in a large metropolis at 5pm, but folks around here think it's horrible and avoid downtown at closing time. I learned a lot thought during this flight. Like, it's important to keep your extra batteries warm, as well as your hands. Can an individual just rely on books for spiritual guidance? If we choose another human being as a guide, how can we know if they are the real thing? In this discourse, Ishwar C. Puri offers some criteria and lists "five checkpoints" to help in the quest for a spiritual guide. This discourse is several decades old. Some parts of the question and answer session are difficult to hear clearly. However, Ishwar's answers touch the spirit of the question. Have a listen.
