Julius Caesar: the Ides of March
Julius Caesar's assassination in Joseph Mankiewicz' 1953 film version of Shakespeare's play.
Here's Cavafy's poem on the theme:
The Ides of March
Guard, O my soul, against pomp and glory.
And if you cannot curb your ambitions,
at least pursue them hesitantly, cautiously.
And the higher you go,
the more searching and careful you need to be.
And when you reach your summit, Caesar at last—
when you assume the role of someone that famous—
then be especially careful as you go out into the street,
a conspicuous man of power with your retinue;
and should a certain Artemidoros
come up to you out of the crowd, bringing a letter,
and say hurriedly: "Read this at once.
There are things in it important for you to see,"
be sure to stop; be sure to postpone
all talk or business; be sure to brush off
all those who salute and bow to you
(they can be seen later); let even
the Senate itself wait — and find out immediately
what grave message Artemidoros has for you.
(CP Cavafy)

We should totally just STAB CAESAR! (Julius Caesar 1953)
Inspired by ericthefrootbat's "Hamlet Meets Mean Girls". I'm just taking the parallels full circle. XD This vid is entirely silliness-inspired, and I like to think that, if he saw this, Shakespeare... um, wouldn't punch me in the face. (That's really the best I can hope for.)
EDIT: For those who don't know what the video is from, it's the 1953 version of Julius Caesar. This is the scene Mean Girls is parodying.

Marlon Brando in Julius Caesar (1953), dir. Joseph L. Mankiewicz
I remember
The first time ever Caesar put it on;
'Twas on a summer's evening, in his tent,
That day he overcame the Nervii:
Look, in this place ran Cassius' dagger through:
See what a rent the envious Casca made:
Through this the well-beloved Brutus stabb'd;
And as he pluck'd his cursed steel away,
Mark how the blood of Caesar follow'd it,
As rushing out of doors, to be resolved
If Brutus so unkindly knock'd, or no;
For Brutus, as you know, was Caesar's angel:
Judge, O you gods, how dearly Caesar loved him!
This was the most unkindest cut of all;
For when the noble Caesar saw him stab,
Ingratitude, more strong than traitors' arms,
Quite vanquish'd him: then burst his mighty heart;
And, in his mantle muffling up his face,
Even at the base of Pompey's statua,
Which all the while ran blood, great Caesar fell.
O, what a fall was there, my countrymen!
Then I, and you, and all of us fell down,
Whilst bloody treason flourish'd over us.
Now let it work. Mischief, thou art afoot,
Take thou what course thou wilt!

Fanvid for the 1953 adaptation of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, set to "That's All" by Genesis. Cassius' perspective on Brutus, the foolish decisions Brutus makes, and how Cassius loves him despite that. (Apologies for the audio skip towards the end!)

The Murder of Julius Caesar
Taken from the HBO's movie "Rome", i think this clip best shows the violence and the anger linked to what is still considered the most tremendous murder of all times. The latin words are taken from "De Vita Caesarum" (The Lives of the Caesars), written by Suetonius in 110 AD. Here is the whole extract:
LXXXII. [44 B.C.] As he took his seat, the conspirators gathered about him as if to pay their respects, and straightway Tillius Cimber, who had assumed the lead, came nearer as though to ask something; and when Caesar with a gesture put him off to another time, Cimber caught his toga by both shoulders; then as Caesar cried, "Why, this is violence!" one of the Cascas stabbed him from one side just below the throat. Caesar caught Casca's arm and ran it through with his stylus, but as he tried to leap to his feet, he was stopped by another wound. When he saw that he was beset on every side by drawn daggers, he muffled his head in his robe, and at the same time drew down its lap to his feet with his left hand, in order to fall more decently, with the lower part of his body also covered. And in this wise he was stabbed with three and twenty wounds, uttering not a word, but merely a groan at the first stroke, though some have written that when Marcus Brutus rushed at him, he said in Greek, 'You too, my child?" All the conspirators made off, and he lay there lifeless for some time, until finally three common slaves put him on a litter and carried him home, with one arm hanging down. And of so many wounds none turned out to be mortal, in the opinion of the physician Antistius, except the second one in the breast. The conspirators had intended after slaying him to drag his body to the Tiber, confiscate his property, and revoke his decrees; but they forebore through fear of Marcus Antonius the consul, and Lepidus, the master of horse.
LXXXVIII. [44 B.C.] He died in the fifty-sixth year of his age, and was numbered among the gods, not only by a formal decree, but also in the conviction of the common people. For at the first of the games which his heir Augustus gave in honor of his apotheosis, a comet shone for seven successive days, rising about the eleventh hour [about an hour before sunset] and was believed to be the soul of Caesar, who had been taken to heaven; and this is why a star is set upon the crown of his head in his statue. It was voted that the curia in which he was slain be walled up, that the Ides of March be called the Day of Parricide, and that a meeting of the senate should never be called on that day.

In this video I analyze each of the major characters, especially in the ambiguity of them all. There is no clear tragic hero, as they can all be both heroic and tragic. If you want to find out who/what is the actual tragic hero check out part two: (Link coming soon!)
