Latin Rite Vestment Blessing.mpg
North American Martyrs Parish, Seattle, WA -- Here is the Latin Rite blessing of vestments that causes them to become sacramentals for use in the Sacred Mass.
Vestments must be blessed prior to their first use or anytime they are sold again (when money changes hands). These newly made vestments will be used for Pentecost and special Martyr Feast Days.

Tridentine Rite Mass Coverage on PBS
This a short segment done by PBS on the Traditional Latin Mass in response and anticipation of the Motu Proprio released the day before by Pope Benedict XVI. The Mass was actually celebrated on Sunday June 6th. I was actually at the Mass that was filmed. You can see me in a couple shots. But it isn't worth pointing me out. I believe this shows there really is interest in the Old Mass or the Extraordinary from of the Latin Rite Mass as it is now called.

The Forbidden Rite Part One (The Latin Mass)
The Forbidden Rite
Forbidden...powerful...beautiful...ancient...extraordinary....
For almost half a century, they have been persecuted, harassed, ostracized, denied, and degraded. They have been mocked and pushed to the corners of faith.
Who are these people and why have they been treated this way? They are those who still believe in the power of an ancient rite that had seemed to become almost entirely forbidden during the 20th century.
Yet in 2007, history began to change. The Vatican unleashed this once almost forbidden rite, requiring that every bishop, priest, and diocese around the world welcome those who desired it, and help them to obtain it.
Despite the many efforts of the Pope, who himself practices this ancient rite and desires for it to become the norm in parishes, their persecutors still abound within the Church, continuing to negate them the best that they can.
The battle is only beginning, but it is one that will change the face of the Catholic Church, and that of the world, forever.

The Forbidden Rite Part Two (The Latin Mass - The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter)
"To celebrate and live the ordinary rite is a worthy call...to live, fight for, protect and save the extraordinary rite is an EXTRAORDINARY call." - Forgotten Productions
Forbidden...powerful...beautiful...ancient...extraordinary....
In the darkest hour of humanity, surrounded by forces of destruction from within as well as from without, what was built upon one man two thousand years ago now seemed doomed to be lost forever.
Faced by formidable enemies, who would arise to fight for what was now almost a forbidden rite, a forbidden faith, a forbidden way of life?
One organization heard that call, an extraordinary call, and arose to fight for what was almost obscured into history.*
With their trust in God, they faced the rage of those who placed their trust in everything but.*
"Oh fortune! Variable as the moon. Always dost thou wax and wane." So cry those who turned to their false ideologies, their false gods; to pagan, secular, and / or heretical notions that deny truth. They ultimately cling to nothing but fortune, luck and fate like blind men, and in their false bravery they sink, their cries resounding in the air, while the soldiers of God march steadily on to a great triumph.
Who are these soldiers? They are the members of The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, also known as the FSSP.*
For more information, visit their site on the web:
www.fssp.org
May God bless and profoundly reward all of the past, present, and future priests of the FSSP for hearing the EXTRAORDINARY call and bravely answering it...
...yours is no ordinary call: to fight for the extraordinary rite, the extraordinary true faith, the extraordinary way of life...
...it is one EXTRAORDINARY vocation!
*Note: This video has not been sponsored by the FSSP. It is the independent creation of one lay person who supports their mission. The opinions and statements contained within this video and the short description of the video posted above are those of the lay person who created this short trailer and do not necessarily reflect those of the FSSP.
Commenting on the music: I do not know Latin fluently.
I chose this song because I wanted to express that there is a spiritual battle happening in our world today, and that priests are some of the soldiers on the front line. In an extraordinary battle we need extraordinary soldiers and graces, and so I wanted to show how much we need the Extraordinary Rite and priests like those of the FSSP.
This is the song that kept coming to my mind to use, as I think it expresses the drama of a battle against evil very well.
So after making the video I learned what the words mean.
I debated leaving it up at first, but then I decided to leave it alone because not only does it work artistically, but I think it expresses the battle even better. The images are opposed to the music - just like any battle has its opposition. In the end, I think it expresses the depth of the battle even better. Those are some of the voices that we as Catholics are fighting (i.e. false ideologies, like fortune, fate, and luck, etc.), and against their voices we have our forces as represented by the images.

The european byzantine-rite catholic bishops in the latin-rite cathedral in Zagreb, 11/22/2012
At the beginning of their annual conference (this year held in Zagreb, Croatia), the byzantine-rite catholic bishops of Europe have been welcomed by the archbishop and metropolite of Zagreb, Mons. Josip Cardinal Bozanić. Some parts of the Liturgy in the latin rite have been celebrated in the unique croatian "glagolitic" tradition with the use of the old slavonic language. The sermon in mostly in Italian, the gospel is sung in the Croatian and Old Slavonic language. Information: the video lacks of several minutes due to hardware problems (the memory card).

BD athlete Chris Schulte bouldering in Hueco Tanks, Texas
BD athlete Chris Schulte makes a trip to the iconic boulders of Hueco Tanks each year, always finding new problems, new adventures and new challenges. Such was the case this year—exactly what Chris was looking for. Below is Chris’ report about his season in Hueco as well as a video he edited together of some of his favorite moments and sends.
=====================================
El Paso sits on the southern edge of the nation, on the edge of a vast desert, wild with car thieves and gangsters, traffickers of human, arms and drugs, bad drivers without insurance, and a big tall fence festooned with discarded plastic bags and bits of refuse running alongside a trickling, muddy brook.
Hueco Tanks, not 40 minutes away, sits peaceful and pristine, an anchor for our human and climbing culture. I’ve been coming here season after season, annually, bi-annually; the space here remains constant: a vortex, magnifying and edifying me and the experiences of my life time and time again. I can come here with peace, and have more peace. I can come here with tumults unheeded, and reap the whirlwind of my deeds. It’s downright psychedelic sometimes, the magic of this place, be it black or white, a magic 8ball or rites of human sacrifice. I’m reminded whenever I come down here, in one way or another, we’re playthings of the old gods when we come to play in their sandbox.
Crawling into the guts of Hueco’s four mountains, you enter another climate, another world. Birds sing, javalinas grunt and wiggle down the trails, coyotes serenade the passing watches of the sun. The greenery drinks deep from the rock wells. The wind howls like the wild dogs roaming the stony arroyos.
Sometimes, the outside world penetrates this fortress of nature: the rumble of bombs and artillery, the staccato pops of heavy machine gun fire and the thump of passing attack helicopters remind you of the very serious world, just beyond the horizon. In recent years, the world has encroached ever more on this oasis: crest a rocky ridgeline and look away north, south, and east, to a private training camp for soldiers of fortune, the cheap box-buildings made to resemble Middle Eastern towns.
In, out, black, white, yin, yang, positive, negative. Always a blend here, tossing you back and forth, making you think, making you try, making you do. A huge, stirring cauldron, boiling with life and experience.
Maybe that’s why we keep coming back: for the slosh, and for the calm, but never for nothing.

Traditional Latin Nuptial Mass - 1962 Rite Wedding Ceremony - Part 1 of 3
My personal wedding video Part 1 of 3. Tridentine/1962 Extraordinary Form Nuptial Mass. Full Nuptial ceremonial and Missa Cantata following. Note: Version of vows used was the standard "Old English" used in England, Pre-Vatican II. The wording, along with the moving of the wedding ring on every finger was considered by us to be more traditional. It was a personal artistic choice.
The choir didn't have time to get "O Bone Jesu" in during communion and post-communion so Dick Valletta made the call to do it during the Last Gospel. Oh well! He's the one who studied at Solesmes France so I am not going to question him. No one chants exactly like Dick. You should hear him when he plays a Requiem Mass.
The last song sung before the Recessional is a Slovak hymn. My wife was born in Slovakia. Dick did that special for my wife.
Poor Fr. Cyprian. We didn't know if we would even be able to have the wedding because Fr. came down with a terrible stomach/intestinal flu that morning. That's why his voice isn't super strong on the video but he's normally fantastic at chanting. He made it through though! Thank you Fr. Cyprian!

Poor Fr. Cyprian. We didn't know if we would even be able to have the wedding because Fr. came down with a terrible stomach/intestinal flu that morning. That's why his voice isn't super strong on the video but he's normally fantastic at chanting. He made it through though! Thank you Fr. Cyprian!
