How to teach IPA English Pronunciation via New Horizons
If you're a language teacher in Japan, Asia, or in fact anywhere in the world and are having problems getting your students to understand differences in pronunciation and/or accents for languages such as English, this tool may come in handy. The New Horizons English textbook, used in many Japanese Junior High Schools, fails to explain how to pronounce words using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). I made this tool to fill in that minor hole in the curriculum. It's not just a poster of a face with a movable tongue. For each tongue position within the mouth, the IPA letter of the sound appears in a little window. Thereby, if the student is trying to read a word in the dictionary, and the word has a pronunciation key written with the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet), this tool can be used to visualise the tongue positions for different vowels. Additionally, I added in a few important consonants, such as the voiced and unvoiced 'th' sounds. I made this in the last month of my stay in Japan about two years ago, and only got to briefly use it, to help the 3rd year Junior high school students with their questions about the New Horizons books. Due to it's size, This poster is best for a small group of less than 4 students, and not a full classroom (unless you've made many copies). Feel free to adapt this idea to your class. Thanks to Umemoto Sensei and all the English teachers at Sobue Junior High School, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Some important links en.wikipedia.org ...

English Numbers 1-20
Hi there! I'm counting in my Californian American English dialect. I made this recording just so people can hear me speaking normally. The symbols within the square brackets [ ] is the pronunciation as indicated by the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). It's a standarized system of phonetic notation that linguists use, associating one sound with one graph (letter). Once you know the IPA, you should be able to pronounce any sound in any language! I'd be happy to explain any of the symbols. Information is also available on the wiki: en.wikipedia.org Note that my transcription is not necessarily "standard" English. It's a somewhat-narrow transcription of my own recording, and pronunciation may differ by region and speaker (sometimes even myself at different times).

Koreans and Foreigners dancing to Gangnam Style at Pyeongtaek University | Life in Korea
In this travel video we visit Pyeongtaek University and notice a group of Koreans dancing to Gangnam Style by Psy. The song Gangnam style has become an overnight internet sensation launching Psy's career as a bona fide International star. In this video we have footage of Koreans dancing to Gangnam style and also include us doing our own interpretation wearing our nerd glasses. It was a lot of fun for a random Sunday morning walk. This is from our Life in Korea series. "Gangnam Style" (Korean: 강남스타일, IPA: [kaŋnam sɯtʰail]) is a single by South Korean rapper Psy. The song was released on July 15, 2012, as the lead single of his sixth studio album PSY's Best 6th Part 1. Ludwig Van Beethoven-- Ode to Joy
www.youtube.com www.encognitive.com (English IPA /ˈlʊdvɪg væn ˈbeɪtoʊvən/; German IPA: [ˈluːtvɪç fan ˈbeːthoːfn], December 16, 1770[1] -- March 26, 1827) was a German composer and virtuoso pianist. He was a crucial figure in the transitional period between the Classical and Romantic eras in Western classical music, and remains one of the most respected and influential composers of all time. Born in Bonn, then in the Electorate of Cologne (now in modern-day Germany), he moved to Vienna, Austria, in his early twenties and settled there, studying with Joseph Haydn and quickly gaining a reputation as a virtuoso pianist. Beethoven's hearing gradually deteriorated beginning in his twenties, yet he continued to compose masterpieces, and to conduct and perform, even after he was completely deaf. en.wikipedia.org

Pyeongtaek University Group Stretching, Gangnam Style & Silly Foreigners Dancing in Korea
In this video we visited Pyeongtaek University with the intention of revisiting our University days of the past. What we encountered was a group of Koreans doing some kind of dance/sports rally activity on the main campus field. They started off doing group stretching and eventually moved on to singing and dancing Psy's - Gangnam Style. We suddenly were inspired to down our own foreigner version inside some photo booths and other areas around campus. This is definitely a silly video. nomadicsamuel.com Pyeongtaek is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Located in the southwestern part of the province, Pyeongtaek was founded as a union of two districts in 940, during the Goryeo dynasty. It was elevated to city status in 1986, and is home to a South Korean naval base and a large concentration of United States troops. The Korean government plans to transform Pyeongtaek city to an international economic hub to coincide with the move of the United States Forces Korea (USFK) to Pyeongtaek. The Ainu Rebels
Interview with some members of the Ainu Rebels. Ainu are the still discriminated against indigenous people of Japan. Wikipedia Definition: The Ainu (アイヌ?) IPA: [ʔáinu] (also called Ezo in historical texts) are an indigenous ethnic group of Japan. Historically they spoke the Ainu language and related varieties and lived in Hokkaidō, the Kuril Islands, and much of Sakhalin. Most of those who identify themselves as Ainu still live in this same region, though the exact number of living Ainu is unknown. This is due to ethnic issues in Japan resulting in those with Ainu backgrounds hiding their identities and confusion over mixed heritages. Official estimates of the population are of around 25000, whilst unofficially the number is upwards of 200000 people. from Action in Asia DVD, by Black Helmet Productions

Kabe'nin iç görünümü / Interior view of the Kaaba / الداخلية نظرا لالكعبة
The Kaaba (or Qaaba; Arabic: الكعبة al-Kaʿbah IPA: [ʔælˈkæʕbɐ]; English: The Cube)[1] is a cuboid-shaped building in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and is the most sacred site in Islam.[2] The Qur'an states that the Kaaba was constructed by Abraham (Ibrahim in Arabic), and his son Ishmael (Ismaeel in Arabic), after the latter had settled in Arabia.[3] The building has a mosque built around it, the Masjid al-Haram. All Muslims around the world face the Kaaba during prayers, no matter where they are. This is called facing the Qiblah. One of the Five Pillars of Islam requires every Muslim to perform the Hajj pilgrimage at least once in his or her lifetime if able to do so. Multiple parts of the Hajj require pilgrims to walk seven times around the Kaaba in a counter-clockwise direction (as viewed from above). This circumambulation, the Tawaf, is also performed by pilgrims during the Umrah (lesser pilgrimage).[2] However, the most dramatic times are during the Hajj, when about 6 million pilgrims gather to circle the building on the same day. en.wikipedia.org *** Kâbe, (Arapça: الكعبة المشرفة) Mekke'de bulunan yaklaşık olarak küp şeklinde bir ibadethanedir.
