Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller at the presidential residence outside Moscow on Monday.
The discussions focused on the Eastern Gas Program, the development of gas fields in Siberia, and the construction of new pipeline routes.
Putin said the state-run gas company should accelerate prospecting at the Chayanda gas field in Yakutia and the construction of a pipeline linking to Vladivostok on the Pacific coast.
Miller reported that overall investments to fulfil these tasks will be around 1.2 trillion rubles ($38 billion).
"Constructing the facility requires 430 billion rubles, with some 770 billion for the construction of the gas pipeline", he said.
The project is aimed at boosting Gazprom's presence on Asia-Pacific markets.
"This is the largest market in the world, and one that is developing very swiftly... So there are lots of prospects, and in the near future we will be able to set up facilities at par with those that supply gas to Europe or even better ones", Miller told Putin.
*
Aleksey Miller, Gazprom CEO (speaking Russian):
Mr. Putin, Gazprom has been consistently implementing the Eastern Gas Programme. Two gas-production centres have been created -- in Kamchatka and Sakhalin. Two gas-main pipelines have been built -- from Sobolevo to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and from Sakhalin through Khabarovsk to Vladivostok.
As of today, Gazprom continues operating in Sakhalin where a new gas field called Kirinskoye will be introduced in 2013 -- unique for its sea-bed technology, for the first time in Russia. Now that the work on developing the gas fields in Sakhalin and Kamchatka has begun we are tasking ourselves to start the second phase of the Eastern Gas Programme and create new gas-production centres. First of all, it concerns...
Vladimir Putin, Russian President (speaking Russian):
It's Kovykta in Irkutsk and [a centre in Yakutia] Chayanda?
Miller: Yes. Chayanda is the main gas field of the Yakutsk gas-production centre. The overall prospected resources comprise 53 trillion cubic metres of gas in East Siberian and Far Eastern mainland and 15 trillion cubic metres of gas in the shelf.
Putin: How much is there here in Irkutsk?
Miller: The Irkutsk gas-production centre's prospected resources are estimated to have 3.7 billion [?trillion] cu.m.
Putin: How much is here?
Miller: It's 2.5 billion [?trillion] cu.m and it's 1.2 trillion cubic metres at the Chayandinskoye field. On the whole, the region has been prospected only slightly -- eight per cent of the mainland and six per cent of the shelf.
Putin: Are you planning to lay the pipe to the East from Yakutia first?
Miller: We believe it's a priority to start developing the Chayadinskoye gas field, to be followed by the Kovyktinskoye gas field along with the Irkutsk production centre, the stage to follow being the Krasnoyarsk centre.
Having started the operations at the Chayandinskoye gas field we are planning to lay a gas-main pipeline from Yakutia through Khabarovsk to Vladivostok -- 3,200 km long, after which as we develop the Kovyktinskoye gas field in parallel we'll start building the second part of the pipeline from Yakutia, 800 km long.
Putin: So as to connect these two gas fields? What about a pipeline to the west from here?
Miller: Delivery of gas from the Irkutsk gas-production centre to the west is envisaged, too -- towards Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk and Omsk -- it's more than 2,000 km. Thus we are planning to get the eastern part of our country, Eastern Siberia connected to Western Siberia, the main consumption centre.
Putin: This is how we will get an integrated gas supply system.
Miller: An integrated system for the whole Russia.
Miller: The investment feasibility study has been approved. Speaking of the new Pacific gas pipeline, we expect it to be built by the end of 2017. We are also planning to build a new gas liquefaction plant somewhere in Vladivostok. We do give priority to domestic markets but we are genuinely interested in setting up a new center for Russian gas exports to Asia-Pacific.
You know that this is the largest market in the world, and one that is developing very swiftly. Some of the most rapidly growing markets include China, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Singapore and Vietnam. So there are lots of prospects, and in the near future we will be able to set up facilities at par with those that supply gas to Europe or even better ones.
Miller: Constructing the facility requires 430 billion rubles, with some 770 billion for the construction of the gas pipeline.

Russian ENERGY GIANT Gazprom Launches GIANT GAS FIELD in Arctic
Russian energy giant Gazprom officially launched production on Tuesday at its giant Bovanenkovo gas field on the Yamal Peninsula in the Arctic.
MOSCOW, October 23

(Видео с Российское агентство международных новостей)
The field, with estimated reserves of 4.9 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, was launched by Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, while Russian President Vladimir Putin attended via a video link-up.
The Bovanenkovo field is expected to produce 46 billion cubic meters of natural gas next year and build annual output to 115 billion cubic meters by 2017, and eventually to 140 billion cubic meters.
Explored and estimated natural gas reserves (ABC1+C2) on the Yamal Peninsula total 16 trillion cubic meters. Forecast reserves amount to nearly 22 trillion cubic meters.
By 2020, the Yamal Peninsula is expected to account for 20-25 percent of Gazprom's output.

Russian President Vladimir Putin watched via video link the launch of production at Bovanenkovo gas field on the Yamal Peninsula in the Arctic, on Tuesday.
Taking part in the videoconference were Presidential Aide Elvira Nabiullina, Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin. Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller reported on the launch of production at the gas field.
* * ***
PRESIDENT OF RUSSIA VLADIMIR PUTIN: Good afternoon, friends,
I want to welcome all those who have gathered in Yamal today, all those who took part in implementing this major, large-scale project in the Yamal Peninsula.
Natural gas reserves at the Bovanenkovo field, which we are launching today, are enormous: they amount to 4.9 trillion cubic metres of gas.
We are implementing a number of major projects this year, both in production and infrastructure, including the second leg of the Nord Stream pipeline and the South Stream project. These extensive programmes testify to the fact that Russia is a major producer of natural gas and a reliable supplier to the domestic and foreign markets.
I want to thank everyone who played a part in the launch of the Bovanenkovo gas field. This work was done in very difficult climatic conditions and its success was ensured by our highly qualified professionals: workers, engineers and scientists. You have made a great contribution to the sector's success, as well as the development of our national economy. It opens new horizons for the expansion of the domestic market and strengthens our export potential.
Suffice it to say that 115 billion cubic metres of gas will be produced at the Bovanenkovo field every year, and this figure will rise to 140 billion cubic metres in the near future. This amounts to almost the entire volume of our exports to Europe (a little less, but nearly the entire volume). This is a tremendous amount. In fact, it is comparable to the amount of gas produced in the Soviet Union at the beginning of large-scale production. This event is on the same scale.
The total reserves in Yamal will allow us to produce 340-360 billion cubic meters of gas by 2030. This is an enormous amount, and it will guarantee for decades ahead that we will be able to fulfil our obligations not only to our partners abroad, but also to supply gas on a large-scale to Russian cities, towns and villages.
The new Bovanenkovo-Ukhta gas pipeline was built especially to supply gas to the Unified Gas Supply System of Russia. This technologically unique pipeline will carry gas from Yamal to the central regions of the Russian Federation.
However, much remains to be done. In particular, it is important to continue the comprehensive development of gas fields in Yamal and the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. We plan to build a modern oil and gas region here, put into operation dozens of promising fields, link them with roads and gas pipelines and create thousands of new jobs. This is all possible and I'm sure it will be achieved.
In addressing these issues, I count on responsible and concerted efforts of the federal and regional authorities, and gas sector companies. We will discuss these and other issues in this sphere at a meeting of the Commission for Strategic Development of the Fuel and Energy Sector and Environmental Security.
In conclusion, I would like to thank once again the engineers, workers and everyone who worked at this gas field for their contribution to this challenging and vitally important project, which was implemented in accordance with the highest environmental standards. This is essential in regions such as Yamal and the Far North in general.
I want to congratulate you once again on your great success and wish you all the best.
Congratulations on the launch of production!

The Gazprom Song (with English subtitles)
Catchy tune for Gazprom, the Russian energy monopolist.
The feel-good anthem was composed and performed by Vladimir Tumayev, director of the Gazprom subsidy Spetsgazavtotrans and founder of the company football club, SOYUZ-Gazprom.

I put in subtitles... at the end it just repeats the refrain:
Don't bother trying, you'll never ever find
A surer friend than Gazprom
We're giving people warmth and light
For office and for home
We should always keep in mind
From dawn till sun down,
That our work is always needed
Working day or holiday
Ref.:
Let's drink to you, let's drink to us,
Let's drink to all the Russian gas
That it never comes to an end,
Though it's so hard to obtain
Let's drink to you, let's drink to us
Let's drink to all the Russian gas
For those extracting the new sun
From down beneath the ground
We're renowned for our deeds
The world over
And all your troubles will recede
If Gazprom people are nearby
Don't try, you'll never ever find
A surer friend than Gazprom
We're giving people warmth and light
For office and for home
Ref.:
Let's drink to you, let's drink to us,
Let's drink to all the Russian gas
That it never comes to an end,
Though it's so hard to obtain
Let's drink to you, let's drink to us

Gazprom Germania's David Graebe discusses benefits of natural gas
On 12 September, David Graebe, Gazprom Germania's head of NGV business development, entered Warsaw, Poland as part of the Blue Corridor 2012 NGV Rally. Upon arrival, he stepped away for a few moments to discuss the rally and highlight the benefits of natural gas vehicles.
Graebe explained how the Blue Corridor 2012 NGV Rally demonstrates that NGV technology is no longer a dream: it can be used widely today, especially in Europe. Anyone with an NGV can travel across the continent using only CNG and LNG. However, additional investments in the natural gas infrastructure must be made if NGVs are to become more widespread.
Gazprom Germania's Graebe illustrated how wider use of CNG and LNG would result in a number of environmental and consumer-oriented benefits. Natural gas is plentiful and cheap, he noted, as its prices are half that of petroleum. It also reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 25 percent, and emits less carbon monoxide than diesel.
Graebe emphasized that environmental issues cannot be solved by the actions of one country. The Blue Corridor 2012 NGV Rally, organized by Gazprom, is travelling across Europe to demonstrate that all European governments, as well as gas companies, must invest in this environmentally friendly fuel to adequately address environmental concerns. Only then will the true benefits of natural gas be felt.
The Blue Corridor 2012 NGV Rally just arrived in Essen, Germany. You can easily keep up with the rally here: http://www.bluecorridor.org/

Gazprom Strikes Gas Price Deal
After over a year of talks, Russian energy company Gazprom announced a settlement today with German utility E.ON AG, giving Germany's biggest utility a price-cut on long-term gas supplies.
The deal helped EON raise its profit forecast by 800 million euros to a range of 10.4 billion euros to 11 billion euros for its full-year outlook. On the news, EON shares rose by 3.8 percent to 17.875 euros, the highest intraday price in months. Shares are now down to 17.04 euros.
In the settlement, Gazprom has also given E.ON a retroactive price cut that extends back to the last quarter of 2010. The agreement gives hope to other firms in Europe in their dealings with the Russian gas giant.

Russian President Putin launches construction of Gazprom's mammoth pipeline
http://www.euronews.com/ Russian President Vladimir Putin was on hand to mark the start of construction of the South Stream gas pipeline, linking Russia with Europe.
Gazprom, the state-run gas monopoly which launches the project, will lay pipes under the Black Sea and via the Balkans. Bulgaria will act as a hub to access southern Europe, neatly avoiding problematic transit countries.
Vladimir Putin spoke about the project:
"We are now about to finalise a huge infrastructure project. In parallel with Nord Stream through the Baltic Sea, South Stream, using the same system, will guarantee a sure way of delivering Russian gas to our key consumers in Europe."
Disagreements on gas pricing with the Ukraine and Belarus has sometimes led to gas being cut off to certain regions in Europe.
Now, the hope is that southern Europe will have access to more dependable gas supplies in the future.

Gazprom sees exports at record high in 2012
http://www.euronews.com/ Russia's gas exports will hit a record high this year, the state-controlled monopoly Gazprom is predicting.
The company expects its sales of gas to Europe to be unchanged from last year and worth around 48 billion euros.
Gazprom is also close to completing price talks with Germany's E.ON and RWE as well as with Polish gas monopoly PGNiG and said agreement should be reached by the end of June.
Separately, Gazprom's deputy chief executive Alexander Medvedev said that he did not expect any problems with Greece over paying for its Russian gas imports.

Shamil Yenikeyeff - the challenge for Gazprom
http://www.intelligencesquared.com/events/natural-gas-revolution/
This clip was taken from, 'A Natural Gas Revolution: Hot Air or Dose of Sanity?', which was filmed at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers on 18th October 2012.
It was a Switched On event in partnership with Shell.
Event info:
Is gas the energy source of the future? Gas is relatively clean (greenhouse emissions are around 50% less than coal) so we'd be doing our bit for the planet. There's no question there's plenty of gas in the ground, meaning a greater proportion of our energy could be generated from reliable sources, making us more resilient to political instability, natural disasters and terrorist attacks elsewhere in the world. A cheap, lower-carbon home-grown supply of energy sounds like an ideal solution.
But others would argue that this would be just a short-term fix. The price of gas seems set to rise and in any case gas is still a fossil fuel: if we're serious about combating climate change we need drastic reductions in our emissions and that also means developing the UK's vast potential for wind, wave and solar power.
There are powerful arguments on all these questions. To give voice to them Intelligence Squared, in partnership with Shell, brought together some of the world's experts -- from both sides of the debate -- for an evening of discussion on the geology, politics and environmental impact of gas.
