TalkStates - Minneapolis Saint Paul Metro Area
talkstates.com Minneapolis-Saint Paul is the most populous urban area in the state of Minnesota, United States, and is composed of 186 cities and townships. Built around the Mississippi, Minnesota and St. Croix rivers, the area is also nicknamed The Twin Cities for its two largest cities, Minneapolis and Saint Paul, the former the larger and the latter the state capital. The area is part of a larger US Census division named Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, MN-WI, the country's 16th-largest metropolitan area composed of eleven counties in Minnesota and two counties in Wisconsin. This larger area in turn is enveloped in the US Census combined statistical area called Minneapolis-St. Paul-St. Cloud, MN-WI with an estimated population of 3.5 million people in 2006, ranked the 13th most populous in the US To remind everyone there were actually two cities, people started using the phrase Dual Cities around 1872, which evolved into Twin Cities. Despite the "Twin" moniker, the two cities are independent municipalities with defined borders and are quite distinct from each other. Minneapolis has more broad boulevards, easily navigable grid layout, and modern downtown architecture. Saint Paul has narrower streets laid out much more irregularly, clannish neighborhoods, and a vast collection of well preserved late-Victorian architecture. Also of some note is the differing cultural backgrounds of the two cities: Minneapolis being affected by its early (and still influential ...

2011 Dog reacts to Earthquake in the Washington DC Metro Area
We had a webcam setup to watch our pup (yes, he is a pup). He's not an alien, he just has to wear a cone until the hair on his leg grows back. By the time I checked on him, he was already back to sleeping on the couch.

Recife - Brazil
Recife is the 4th-largest Metropolitan area in Brazil with 3768902 inhabitants, the largest metropolitan area of the North/Northeast Regions, the 4th-largest metropolitan influence area in Brazil, and the capital of the state of Pernambuco. The population of the city proper was 1561659 in 2009. Recife is located where the Beberibe River meets the Capibaribe River to flow into the Atlantic Ocean. It is a major port on the Atlantic Ocean. The name Recife means "reef" in Portuguese, in allusion to the coral reefs that are present by the city's shores. The many rivers, small islands and over 50 bridges found in Recife city center characterize its geography and gives it the moniker of the "Brazilian Venice." The Metropolitan Region of Recife is the main industrial zone of the State of Pernambuco; most relevant products are those derived from cane (sugar and ethanol), electronics, food, and others; thanks to the fiscal incentives of government, many industrial enterprises were started in the 1970s and 1980s. Recife has a tradition of being the most important commercial center of the North/Northeastern region of Brazil with more than 52500 business enterprises in Recife itself plus 32500 in the Metro Area which will total more than 85000. A combination of a large supply of labor and significant private investments turned Recife into Brazil's second largest medical center, (second only to São Paulo); modern hospitals with state-of-the-art equipment receive patients from several ...

The Region We Call Home
The Twin Cities metro area is home to 18 Fortune 500 businesses, more per capita than any of the nation's 30 most populous metro areas. To support our region's economic vitality, the Metropolitan Council plans for and makes strategic, efficient public investments in: • A growing network of transitways • Transit-oriented development • Affordable housing • World-class wastewater treatment • Unparalleled regional parks and trails The Council's Thrive MSP 2040 long-range planning effort is engaging our entire region to develop a vision to maximize future opportunities for growth and prosperity, and achieve goals too big for any one community, but possible to accomplish as a region.

Johannesburg - South Africa
Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa. Johannesburg is the provincial capital of Gauteng, the wealthiest province in South Africa, having the largest economy of any metropolitan region in Sub-Saharan Africa. The city is one of the 40 largest metropolitan areas in the world, and is also the world's largest city not situated on a river, lake, or coastline. While Johannesburg is not officially one of South Africa's three capital cities, it does house the Constitutional Court -- South Africa's highest court. Johannesburg is the source of a large-scale gold and diamond trade, due to its location on the mineral-rich Witwatersrand range of hills. Johannesburg is served by OR Tambo International Airport, the largest and busiest airport in Africa and a gateway for international air travel to and from the rest of southern Africa. According to the 2007 Community Survey, the population of the municipal city was 3888180 and the population of the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Area was 7151447.[citation needed] A broader definition of the Johannesburg metropolitan area, including Ekhuruleni, the West Rand, Soweto and Lenasia, has a population of 10267700.[citation needed] The municipal city's land area of 1645 km2 (635 sq mi) is very large when compared to other cities, resulting in a moderate population density of 2364 /km2 (6120 /sq mi). Johannesburg once again includes Soweto, which was a separate city from the late 1970s until the 1990s. Originally an acronym for ...

Coimbra - Portugal
Coimbra is a city in Coimbra Municipality in Portugal. It served as the country's capital during the First Dynasty (12th Century) and remains home to the University of Coimbra, the oldest academic institution in the Portuguese-speaking world and one of the oldest in Europe. According to the INE's census of 2001, the city proper had a population of 101069 and the municipality had a population of 148443 in a 319.4 km² land area. Over 430000 people live in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Coimbra, comprising 16 municipalities and spreading over 3372 km². It is the seat of the Centro region, as well as of the District of Coimbra and the Baixo Mondego subregion. Like most university cities, Coimbra is home to many students from elsewhere, including thousands of international students. Coimbra is one of the most important urban centers of Portugal after the much larger Lisbon Metropolitan Area and Porto Metropolitan Area. Coimbra plays a role as the chief urban centre of the central part of the country. The city contains important archeological remains of structures dating from the time when it was the Roman town of Aeminium, such as its well-preserved aqueduct and cryptoporticus, as well as from the period when it served as the capital of Portugal (from 1139 to about 1260). In the Late Middle-Ages, declining as the political centre of the Kingdom of Portugal, Coimbra began to evolve into a major cultural centre with the foundation of the University of Coimbra in 1290. ROSA KOIRE: Author and Activist, "Behind the Green Mask"
This video was recorded at Rosa Koire's conference on Agenda 21, "Behind the Green Mask", August 6, 2011 in Santa Rosa, California. Agenda 21 is the Master Plan put forth by the United Nations in 1992 and adopted by President Bill Clinton. Agenda 21 is a green initiative which targets cars and people living away from cities who must commute. Their goal is to develop large, congested city centers for people to reside, and provide mass transit for the city dwellers to commute to work. It also targets large parcels of land in the world, including the United States, to be redistricted to "open space land", thereby making it undevelopable. Agenda 21 is now being adopted in California, specifically in the San Francisco Bay Area, under the name "Plan Bay Area". Plan Bay Area's goal is to develop large congested downtown metro areas, with shops, stores, theaters, and mass high rise housing. They aim to get people out of their private suburban residences and cars, and warehouse them in these large metro areas. These areas will also house California's large immigrant population, including illegal immigrants. Video Produced by Steve Kemp, Golden Gate Minutemen and Bay Area Tea Parties
