50 Years of James Bond: The Movie
Approximately five minutes from each of the 22 Eon produced James Bond films have been cut together, in order and in sequence, beginning with the first five minutes of DR. NO (1962) followed by minutes 5-10 of FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (1963), minutes 10-15 of GOLDFINGER (1964), minutes 15-20 of THUNDERBALL (1965), continuing on through each of the remaining 18 Bond features (accounting for variables in each title's running time) culminating with the final five minutes of 2008's QUANTUM OF SOLACE. This fresh look at the "James Bond Formula" provides a new exploration of the evolution of the series into a filmmaking genre uniquely its own. With few exceptions, each title's transition into the picture that follows it is nearly seamless, creating a viewing experience that at first might serve to remind us "if you've seen one Bond film, you've seen them all," but looking more closely it is in fact an endearing homage to a character who single-handedly shaped modern cinema's action/adventure formula and who continues to leave an indelible mark on generations worldwide.

SKYFALL: 50 Years of Bond
SKYFALL and the BOND 50 Collection are here! More at 007.com! When it comes to cultural icons, James Bond is one of the biggest and most influential. These past 50 years we've been able to experience 007s finest adventures on the big screen, including last year with the excellent SKYFALL which shattered box office records. This piece, set to Adele's 'Skyfall', revisits Bond's adventures, from Dr. No to Skyfall, taking you through the various eras of the Bond legacy. Get those Martinis ready! This is in no way a full retrospective of the Bond films, the only way to truly live 007's adventures is by seeing them yourself. And what better way to do that than with the Bond 50 Collection on Blu-ray! Each film has been restored to its former glory with pristine picture quality. They really outdid themselves with the 4K restoration process and so every frame of footage used in this video is straight from the source, maintaining the best possible quality from edit to upload. Footage from 'Dr. No', 'From Russia With Love', 'Goldfinger', 'Thunderball', 'You Only Live Twice', 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service', 'Diamonds Are Forever', 'Live and Let Die', 'The Man with the Golden Gun', 'The Spy Who Loved Me', 'Moonraker', 'For Your Eyes Only', 'Octopussy', 'A View to a Kill', 'The Living Daylights', 'Licence to Kill', 'Goldeneye', 'Tomorrow Never Dies', 'The World Is Not Enough', 'Die Another Day', 'Casino Royale', 'Quantum of Solace' and 'Skyfall' remains courtesy of MGM, United ...

X-Men: First Class Title Sequence
Inspired by classic Sixties movie titles and prompted by John Struan of Super Punch fame, I've built a 1960s style title sequence for the upcoming X-Men: First Class film.
Set during the midst of the Cuba Missile Crisis, X-Men: First Class tells the story of the first team coming together, before they would become the heroes and villains we know from the original X-Men Trilogy.
This sequence was designed to give a very brief primer on the time period, the setting, as well as show the relationships of the characters in this film, as they are very different from the previous movies and audiences shouldn't be confused as to why Professor X and Magneto, enemies in the original trilogy, are the best of friends in this prequel.
Super Punch held a contest redesigning the posters for the film, which played it safe by sticking very close to the correlation to the original trilogy, and winding up rather mundane compared to the slick trailer rife with espionage, red fear, and 60s hair. Several people were quick to make posters in the Mod, Saul Bass, and James Bond style that I had in mind, so it was decided that I'd make a title sequence instead.
And yes, that music is a very melancholic rendition of the 90s cartoon theme song.
Please visit SecretUndergroundHeadquarters.com and SuperPunch.blogspot.com for more awesomeness.
Special thanks to Jessica Heaton, the World's Greatest Robot Girl.

"A Kiss From Tokyo" Theatrical trailer
Official selection for best advertising at Annecy Festival 2010!!!
"A Kiss From Tokyo", Theatrical Trailer (1964) - Yuki 7 dashes around the world in hot pursuit of the tantalizingly tricky Diamond Eye, who is stealing parts and plans and leaving behind a path of murdered scientists in her quest to build a missile inside her volcanic lair.
I co-directed it with and for Kevin Dart.
This animation is a part of a promotional event about the release of Kevin's new book, "Seductive Espionage, the world of Yuki 7" which was released in summer 2009.
Kevin produced the graphics and I gave them life in After Effects.
I tried to catch what was typical about the vintage look of the movies from this period. Lighting, grain, old school Special Effects (car chase in a studio with background projected film, miniature sets), editing, old fashion transitions, Music, etc...
Cyrille Marchesseau created a great piece of music inspired by Laurie Johnson (The Avengers) and John Barry (James bond).
Order the book, "Seductive Espionage: The World of Yuki 7" from www.fleetstreetscandal.com

Cerro Paranal is an astronomers paradise with its stunningly dark, steady and transparent sky. Located in the barren Atacama Desert of Chile it is home to some of the world's leading telescopes.
Operated by the European Southern Observatory (www.eso.org) the Very Large Telescope (VLT) is located on the Paranal mountain, composed of four 8 m telescopes which can combine their light to make a giant telescope by interferometry.
Four smaller auxiliary telescopes, each 1.8 m in aperture, are important elements of the VLT interferometer.
Walking on the desert near Paranal between the scattered stones and boulders on the pale red dust, feels like being on Mars but under the Earth sky.
Paranal was selected for cutting edge astronomical observations also because of the sky transparency and steady atmospheric condition which let astronomers peer into tiny details in the deep cosmos using giant telescopes.
This film is made with footage from the November 2011 TWAN imaging expedition to Paranal assigned by the European Southern Observatory (ESO). We photographed 14 nights in a row from usually 05:30 pm to 08:00 a.m.
All video rights reserved by Christoph Malin (www.christophmalin.com) and Babak Tafreshi (btafreshi@twanight.org) of The World at Night (TWAN) program (www.twanight.org/tafreshi).
The inside vista-observatory video is contributed by Stephane Guisard (www.astrosurf.com/sguisard).
The Music choice of Audiodoctor @ soundcloud.com/audiodoctor - "Talamone Times" with its great JB theme
was inspired by the James Bond Movie "A Quantum of Solace", where the last part of the Film at the Desert Hotel was in fact filmed at Cerro Paranal (http://www.eso.org/public/outreach/bond/BondatParanal.html).
Equipment used by Christoph on assignment:
- 2 Nikon D3s
- 1 Nikon D700
- 1 Nikon D7000
- 2 AFS 12-24/2.8, 1 AFS 24-70/2.8, 1 AF 16/2.8 Fisheye, 1 AF DX 10/2.8 Fisheye
- Dynamic Perception Stage Zero Dolly with MX2
- Astrotrac AT320 X-AG and Merlin with MX2
Transitions done with Apple Aperture (see http://vimeo.com/35998334). Edited and rendered with Final Cut Pro 10, Motion and Compressor. Some re-edits recently done with LR4 and LRT for testing, fun!. About 35000 TimeLapse images processed, 7500 used for this part of "Astronomers Paradise".
I hope we could at least capture the magic of this very special place a bit - this is how the night sky looks like, if people care about light pollution. And we need more people to do that.
With best regards,
Christoph Malin

Robot Quadrotors Perform James Bond Theme
See how this video was made: www.youtube.com Flying robot quadrotors perform the James Bond Theme by playing various instruments including the keyboard, drums and maracas, a cymbal, and the debut of an adapted guitar built from a couch frame. The quadrotors play this "couch guitar" by flying over guitar strings stretched across a couch frame; plucking the strings with a stiff wire attached to the base of the quadrotor. A special microphone attached to the frame records the notes made by the "couch guitar". These flying quadrotors are completely autonomous, meaning humans are not controlling them; rather they are controlled by a computer programed with instructions to play the instruments. Penn's School of Engineering and Applied Science is home to some of the most innovative robotics research on the planet, much of it coming out of the General Robotics, Automation, Sensing and Perception (GRASP) Lab. This video premiered at the TED2012 Conference in Long Beach, California on February 29, 2012. Deputy Dean for Education and GRASP lab member Vijay Kumar presented some of this groundbreaking work at the TED2012 conference, an international gathering of people and ideas from technology, entertainment, and design. The engineers from Penn, Daniel Mellinger and Alex Kushleyev, have formed a company called KMel Robotics that will design and market these quadrotors.
