The native Passamaquoddy Tribe has called this area home for at least 10,000 years. Solving the U.S. Virgin Islands Energy Crisis
Empower.vi presents a solution to the U.S.Virgin Island's Energy Crisis.
Ben Walter a resident of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands presents a plan to install 300 megawatts of Offshore Floating Wind Turbines directly off the South Shore of St. Croix near the shutdown (February 2012) Hovensa Oil refinery.
The planned wind farm can be fully financed solely by redirecting significantly less than the in excess of $400 million that the U.S. Virgin Islands expends on purchasing fossil fuels each year (WAPA $200M and road transportation $200M), which could otherwise finance the capital investment. Fuel costs that will no doubt increase significantly over the coming months, and forever bring uncertainty to the territory as it remains beholden to those who control those resources.

This area was occupied for thousands of years by indigenous peoples. The historic Passamaquoddy, an Algonquian-speaking people of the Wabanaki Confederacy, was predominant in this area at the time of European encounter and settlement.
The St. Croix River and its area were first explored by the French Samuel de Champlain when he and his men spent a winter on St. Croix Island in 1604. The first permanent settler was Daniel Hill of Jonesboro, who arrived in 1779 during the
American Revolutionary War, when this was still part of Massachusetts. With other settlers, he built the first sawmill in 1782. On June 27, 1789, the Massachusetts General Court sold the township to Waterman Thomas for 19¢ an acre (approx. $2.86 an acre in 2018 dollars). Early occupations in the settlement included farming, hunting and ship building.[5]
On June 16, 1809, Plantation Number 5 PS was incorporated as Calais after Calais, France, in honor of French assistance during the American Revolution. The river provided the mill town with water power for industry, which included sawmills, clapboard and shingle mills, two planing mills, a saw factory, two axe factories and four grain mills. There were foundries, machine shops, granite works, shoe factories and a tannery. Other businesses produced bricks, bedsteads, brooms, carriages and plaster.[6]
The relationship between Calais and the neighboring Canadian town of St. Stephen has been remarkably close, over a period of many years. As evidence of the longtime friendship between the towns, during the War of 1812, the British military provided St. Stephen with a large supply of gunpowder for protection against the enemy Americans in Calais, but St. Stephen's town elders gave the gunpowder to Calais for its Fourth of July celebrations.[7]
Calais is the home of the first railroad built in the state of Maine, the Calais Railroad, incorporated by the state legislature on February 17, 1832.[8] It was built to transport lumber from a mill on the St. Croix River opposite Milltown, New Brunswick, 2 miles (3 km) to the tidewater at Calais in 1835. In 1849, the name was changed to the Calais & Baring Railroad, and the line was extended 4 miles (6 km) farther to Baring.[9] In 1870, it became part of the St. Croix & Penobscot Railroad.[10]
Calais was incorporated as a city on August 24, 1850. On July 18, 1864, Confederate agents crossed the border from New Brunswick and attempted to rob a bank in Calais.[11]
The Calais Free Library was designed by noted Boston architect Arthur H. Vinal and opened on July 4, 1893. The Romanesque Revival building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
Other places in Calais listed on the National Register of Historic Places are the Calais Historic District, Calais Residential Historic District, Devils Head Site, Gilmore House, Thomas Hamilton House, Hinckley Hill Historic District, Holmes Cottage, Dr. Job Holmes House, Theodore Jellison House, Pike's Mile Markers, St. Anne's Episcopal Church, George Washburn House and Whitlocks Mill Light.

The native Passamaquoddy Tribe has called this area home for at least 10,000 years. Some archeologists estimate the habitation at 20,000 years.[5] The first known European contact was the St. Croix colony founded by the French explorer Samuel de Champlain in 1604. Near present-day Calais, the unsuccessful Saint Croix Island Acadia settlement predates the first successful English settlement at Jamestown, Virginia, by three years. On June 25, 1604, Champlain and his men spent a long and severe winter on St. Croix Island with no fresh water and diminished supplies. Two-fifths of the men died of scurvy, and the colony moved across the Bay of Fundy to Port Royal in present-day Nova Scotia.[6]
Fishermen and traders visited the area in the 17th century. Moose Island was first settled in 1772 by James Cochrane of Newburyport, Massachusetts, who would be joined by other fishermen from Newburyport and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. On February 24, 1798, Eastport was incorporated as a town from Plantation Number 8 PS by the Massachusetts General Court, and named for being the easternmost port in the United States. Lubec, on the mainland, was set off and incorporated as a town on June 21, 1811.[7]
From 1807 to 1809, the town was a center of extensive two-way smuggling during the Embargo Act imposed by President Thomas Jefferson. In 1809, Fort Sullivan was erected atop a village hill, but it was captured by a British fleet under command of Sir Thomas Hardy on July 11, 1814, during the War of 1812 as part of the initiative to establish the colony of New Ireland. England claimed that Moose Island was on the British side of the international border which had been determined in 1783. Nevertheless, the town was returned to United States' control in 1818. The boundary between the U. S. and Canada in the area remained disputed until settled by the Webster–Ashburton Treaty of 1842.[8] Eastport is the location most recently occupied by a foreign country in the contiguous United States.[9]
In 1833 Eastport was the second largest trading port in the country after New York City.[9] Farms produced hay and potatoes. Industries included a grain mill, box factory and carding mill. But the island's economy was primarily directed at the sea. With tides of about 25 feet (7.6 m), Eastport's spacious harbor remained ice-free year round. The first sardine factory was built here about 1875. The population grew with the emergence of the sardine fishery and related canning businesses, which studded the shoreline by the end of the 19th century. By 1886, the town contained 13 sardine factories, which operated day and night during the season, and produced approximately 5,000 cases per week. About 800 men, women and children worked in the plants.[10] Eastport would be incorporated as a city on March 18, 1893.[8] But the fishing industry would decline, and many people moved away. Indeed, the city went bankrupt in 1937. In 1976, the Groundhog Day Gale destroyed many structures along the waterfront. Today, catching fish remains the principal industry, although tourism has become important as well.[11]
Eastport is a port of entry. An international ferry crosses to Deer Island, New Brunswick, during the summer months. Each 4th of July, the city becomes a destination for thousands of celebrants. Navy ships have docked there during the 4th of July celebration for many years. Eastport celebrated its bicentennial in 1998. Each September, the city hosts the annual Maine Salmon Festival in the historic downtown district.[12]

Offshore floating wind technology is in use today by Norway who have been the pioneers in placing and running successfully for the last two years a floating 2.3 megawatt wind turbine. The race for floating wind farms is on across the world, since this technology is projected to be much less expensive than undertaking the placement of underwater foundations and building towers from the sea floor up. Now the the State of Maine is leading the way, in a project spearheaded by Dr. Habib Dagher, and has laid out their energy road map adopting floating wind technology that includes putting in place a 500 megawatt floating wind farm (half the strength of a nuclear power plant) by 2020 and be producing 5,000 megawatts by 2030. Ben Walter hopes the government of the U.S. Virgin Islands will adopt a proposal using the State of Maine initiative and technology to place a 300 MW farm that will bring energy independence to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

6 Naughty Things Maine Coons Do
Happy Fri-yay friends! Here's another video that just came to me. I wasn't planning on putting together a video today, but sometimes the push and drive is so strong that I can't focus on anything else until I finish the video. The funny thing is Moose wasn't being his usual naughty self in the video. He would NOT chew the cord right in front of me like he usually does. And RIGHT after I filmed the clips of him playing with his water he splashed a ton of it out. I feel like I rarely ever capture our cat's being their true selves. Lol. Hope you guys enjoy this video! We can't help but love our cats, even when they're behaving naughty.

Tell me lover, now that you made your change,
was your soul rediscovered?
Was your heart rearranged?
Are you still pills in the morning?
Did you lose that longing?
For a walk through an ocean town
Cuz this town’s just an ocean now
You don’t hate the summer
You’re just afraid of the space
Asking strangers for answers
To forget what they say
A boat beside a dock in the sunlight
Nothing but the water and the sunrise now
Just a lack of open mouth

Does everyone in Maine eat lobster?
Does everyone in Maine have a funny accent?
And is everyone in Maine sick of the tourists?
Wow we’re out here in no man’s land. We could be anywhere. But of course, we know we’re in Maine, because that’s what this video is all about. There aren’t a lot of people in these parts. Maine is the only state in the nation with just one border. This state shares a long border with New Hampshire, but that’s it. It’s actually a much bigger state than you might think - you can fit the other New England states of New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island into Maine.
Maine has the lowest population density of any state east of the Mississippi. There’s a million people here, but most people are south of where we are. But more on that later.
To get a complete understanding of Maine, we need to look at it from a higher level and then explore each region.
This is Maine.
As you can see, there are large areas in the northern part of Maine where things are vast and wide open, and then, closer to the coast and to the south, there’s a lot more going on. But for the people in northern Maine, there’s plenty enough going on. They have everything they need, thank you very much.
We’ll begin over here in the northwest part of Maine. Way up here is really nothing. Outside of Moosehead Lake and It’s woods and a lot of rundown cabins. No that’s mean. There are some teeny tiny little villages with a smattering of folks out here tucked way back into tracts of forest, places that are just about as rural as you’ll find in almost anywhere in the country.
Maine claims to have more woods than any other state. 89% of the state is woods. That’s probably why it got the nickname The Pine Tree State. You could drive back here for three or four hours and hardly see a soul. That’s also why a majority of people in Maine drive Trucks and SUVs and Subarus.
Most of this region is made up of Piscataquis County, which is losing more people than any other county in the state. This county lost 6% of its population over the last decade. Why? Mostly an aging population, more deaths than births, and a loss of net migration. In fact Maine now has the oldest average population of any state in the country.
There’s plenty of places to ski on this side of the state. In the middle of this vast region is Mount Katahdin. While New Hampshire’s Mount Washington may be the called the “Beast of the East,” Mount Katahdin is the largest independent mountain with the most rugged terrain in the Northeast. Crazy people trek up here and cross country ski here. It’s also where the Appalachian Trail begins - or ends - depending on which way you’re going.
Down here in Somerset and Franklin Counties it’s more woods and skiing.

Step back in time and enjoy the simplicity of lakeside recreation at this off grid lakefront cabin, located on a wilderness lake in Aroostook County, Maine.
The cabin was built pre 1970 with some updates and improvements over the years. The 21’ X 28’ foot print includes the main cabin, the lakeside covered porch and a wood shed/ utility area. This cabin sets about 50 feet from the lakeshore. The building is set on concrete and wood blocks. It is finished on the exterior with cedar shingles. The heat source for the cabin is a wood stove. Lighting, cooking and refrigeration are all LP gas. This is as simple as cabin life can be.
Currently the cabin owner is leasing the land from a local land company. The lease can be transferred to a new owner, or the land company will sell the 1.72± acres with 205± feet of lake frontage. The list price includes the purchase of the land. The land is heavily wooded, and the cabin is surrounded by 100+ year old white pines that provide both shade and privacy.
The land and cabin are located on Wytopitlock Lake in Glenwood, Maine. The lake is 1,152± acres with a maximum depth of 24 feet. The fishing in this lake is primarily warm water species with the occasional wild brook trout. The relatively shallow shore line has a pebble bottom and is a good spot for swimming. This lake has very little developed shoreline and gets very little boat traffic. A boat landing is located on the southern shore of the lake a couple miles from the cabin.
Glenwood is a remote township in south eastern Aroostook County. The last census showed a population of 3. Most of the township is managed forestland owned by just a few landowners. These owners have thus far allowed the public recreational use of their lands.
If you are ready to get away from the crowd call today for more information or to schedule a showing.

Consumed with a dark past and experiences of unjust behaviour, Komal is an overly emotional girl and has a complex personality. Her constant emotional instability and selfish behaviour take a toll on those around her.
Despite the bitterness of the past, Komal is now happily married to Omar and have a seven-year-old daughter together. Komal takes pride in the life that she has built for herself and the way Omar and her in-laws are in her control. However, Komal’s so-called perfect world comes crashing down when she learns about Omar’s alternative life that he has been living for many months. Shocked to see her pride and ego-shattering, Komal chooses to not become a victim and decides to entangle Omar in the web of lies and mental torture.
After Komal’s sense of intricate and complex planning, will she realize the root cause of all her problems? Will she or those around her be able to acknowledge the loneliness that lies within her?

Lyrics:
Tell me lover, now that you made your change,
was your soul rediscovered?
Was your heart rearranged?
Are you still pills in the morning?
Did you lose that longing?
For a walk through an ocean town
Cuz this town’s just an ocean now
You don’t hate the summer
You’re just afraid of the space
Asking strangers for answers
To forget what they say
A boat beside a dock in the sunlight
Nothing but the water and the sunrise now
Just a lack of open mouth
Cuz this town’s just an ocean now
Bad
I miss this place your head and your heart
My dad
Still tells me when they’re playing your songs
Laughing at the way
That you would say
“if only baby there were cameras in the traffic lights, they’d make me a star”
I wanna go to Maine
I wanna go to Maine
Bad
I miss this place your head and your heart
My dad
Still tells me when they’re playing your songs
Laughing at the way
That you would say
“if only baby there were cameras in the traffic lights, they’d make me a star”
I wanna go to Maine
I wanna go to Maine
You tell me lover
if you have a change of heart
Cuz now we’re no better than the fossils
on Crescent Beach State Park
We used sing along to church bells on sundays
Can you even hear them on the subway? wow
And I hope that you make me proud
Cuz this towns just an ocean now

Viața are haz, nu fac vreun naz
Dar fiecare zi e un alt macaz
Ș-alegerile noastre mă țin treaz
D-aia ziua de mâine nu-mi dă răgaz
[Bridge]
