Goby and Pistol Shrimp (Sand)
This is the Yellow Watchman Goby and Tiger Pistol Shrimp that share a symbiotic relationship in my reef tank. The pistol shrimp is an excellent cave builder, but has poor eyesight. He provides shelter to the goby by sharing his home, and the goby returns the favor by warning the pistol shrimp of potential predators (such as the emerald crab in the corner). At the end of the clip the moon lights come in and they call it a night. See part 2 to view my goby and pistol working with crushed coral substrate.

Should I care for a yellow clown goby?
http://www.azfishkeeping.com/content.php?c_id=82
These amusing little yellow fish have become more popular in the last couple of years and so you are more likely to see them in your local fish shop. Prices have gone down from $15 just 2 years ago to $5 which is probably about where it will stay. Because these fish are small, brightly colored, interesting to watch, and affordable, many aquarists are going to think about getting one, or two, or three. By the time you are done reading this article you should know if the yellow clown goby is for you, and what you need to know to take care of it.

Shrimp Goby and shrimp in their burrow entrance a depth of 12m
The mutualistic relationship between prawngobies (also known as shrimpgobies) and alpheid shrimps that live together in the same burrow, has been known for many years.
The shrimp has poor eyesight. It builds and maintains the burrow while the keen-eyed goby serves as a sentry at the burrow entrance. The shrimp spends much of the daylight hours "bulldozing" sand or rubble from the burrow. Each time it emerges from the burrow entrance, it rests one of its antennae on the body of the goby. If the goby detects danger the posterior portion of its body quivers to alert the shrimp. The goby may also back into the burrow and block the shrimp's exit. If the threat escalates, the goby will dart straight into the burrow.

What Will Round Gobies Do to Great Lakes Streams?
To look at it, the round goby doesn't seem like much. A small fish the approximate size of an average pickle, it seems like the sort of creature that'd be the dominated in the aquatic universe, not the dominator.
But like an ecological David in reverse, the voracious goby has used strength of numbers to wreak serious damage on the gentle Goliath that is the Great Lakes food web. Sometimes found in groups of several hundred or more, round gobies have made short work of the key food sources that sustain the young of a lengthy list of Great Lakes sport fish: bass, walleye, and yellow perch. Round gobies also dine on sport fish eggs when the opportunity arises. These species are fighting back, feeding heavily on gobies, but goby populations are usually too large to be affected.
Worse, in what some researchers have dubbed a "classic ecological surprise," the gobies haven't limited their invasive ways to the Great Lakes: Over the past decade, they've also migrated to Wisconsin's streams and rivers, where researchers are very concerned they could have a similar devastating effect on the ecosystem.
Beginning in 2007, using funding provided by University of Wisconsin Sea Grant, UW-Madison ecologist Jake Vander Zanden and UW graduate student Matt Kornis set out to discover just what kind of impact the gobies might be having. Using nets and a portable electro-fishing system, Kornis and a team of student researchers sampled and analyzed goby populations at 150 different stream locations along Wiscosins' Lake Michigan coast.
"When we discovered round goby in some small streams in Wisconsin, it made us start to ask the question, what kind of impacts are they going to have?" stated Vander Zanden, the project's principal investigator. "How many miles of stream in Wisconsin are going to be invaded, and is this something we need to be concerned about?"
Kornis and his team spent several months sampling from a variety of stream habitats—sandy, temperate and rocky—as well as areas where goby populations were either absent, low or prevalent. Of the 75 streams Kornis's team sampled, 26 contained gobies. In more than 80 percent of those sample sites, the goby population was deemed small, with the remaining 10 percent described as "superabundant."
The most surprising finding? At most of the sites, gobies have yet to devastate the ecosystem the way they have in the Great Lakes.
"Over the last three years, at most of our sites and streams, we haven't seen the population level declines in the native species we would have expected based on what we know from the Great Lakes," said Kornis.
That doesn't mean it couldn't eventually occur. Kornis and Vander Zanden remain focused on tracking the inevitable progress of the goby. They've identified and mapped 1300 kilometers of Wisconsin streams that are at risk for goby invasion, based on habitat suitability and natural migration projections from areas where the fish have already become established. Both researchers caution that if fishermen and boaters aren't cautious about preventing the spread of invasive species like the goby, the number of invaded streams in the Lake Michigan basin could expand dramatically.
"Streams are different enough from lakes in terms of the amount of habitat and type of food available that maybe round gobies can't reach the same densities as in the Great Lakes," said Kornis. "Nonetheless, goby populations are growing in most streams. Since 2007, we've observed at least a doubling of round goby abundance at 65 percent of our sites."
Vander Zanden agrees that further vigilance is critical to goby containment and habitat preservation. "This species is on the move, their inland spread is really rapid, and there is a lot of suitable habitat for them," he said. "We're worried about them making their way into inland lakes all around the state. We expect that they will have big impacts in these systems. Anglers and boaters need to be aware and not transport these fish into new waters."

Goby - Good Looking Boy
The new music video from Goby produced by GO! pictures
Goby can´t hide his addiction to the 80´s but he brings his own songs to a whole new level. Some songs rock, some more pop, a small bit of dance, and definitely full of energy!
Goby is working with one of the best musicians, sound engineers and video production companys around the world. Especially for Good Looking Boy, Johann Steinecker and GO! pictures were able to get the best out of Goby´s song.
A funny thing is that the name "Goby" and also the title of the song "Good Looking Boy" have a place in music history. The artist "Kaki King" called one of her songs "Goby" and "The Who" wrote a song called "Real Good Looking Boy". But that is not the only reason why Goby is going to write a very special chapter in music history! He is an extraordinary musician, songwriter, producer and just a fascinating spirit.

Huge Violet / Dragon Goby Fish
2 yrs ago I posted a video of my Dragon Gobies. Many were impressed with how big they were back than! They have grown ALOT since than so I thought it was time to post a video update.
I LOVE my dragon Gobies!! They are such a docile easy going fish.. opps best not forget about my Dojo Loach which has been raised with the Dragons, he's quite a character.
I have my Goby Dragons in a Brackish Water heated 50 gal tank. They are fed several pellets of Hikari Massivore Delite.
Originally I got them from Walmart as these scrawny little things, with big heads, and was told to feed them sinking shrimp pellets and flakes (personally I think bloodworms would have been a better choice).
Instead I fed mine Hikari sinking Carnivore pellets, and they thrived..

Dragon Violet Goby
This is a video update of the Dragon Goby that I have had since June 2012. It is in brackish water and is growing from a skinny 9 inches in June to 18 and one half inches in November 2012. I only provide him food when the lights are on and I like to feed him a little every time I look at him if I have some unfrozen carp eggs or beef heart available... 5 or 6 times a day. I am careful to only feed what he can consume in 15 min.

Yellow Watchman Goby and Tiger Pistol Shrimp During Feeding Time
This is the Yellow Watchman Goby and Tiger Pistol Shrimp that share a symbiotic relationship in my reef tank (as these species do in the wild). The pistol shrimp is an excellent cave builder, but has poor eyesight. He provides shelter to the goby by sharing his home, and the goby returns the favor by warning the pistol shrimp of potential predators. This is one of the neatest examples of interspecies symbiosis in nature, in my opinion!
During this video, I have just fed the tank so you will see bits of food floating by (and the goby "catching" it.) You will also see the shrimp coming out of the cave and occasionally pushing sand out as he continues his never-ending construction project.
