For more information, visit our main site at: www.asiatravel.com It's as easy as "Click & Go!" The Chao Phraya (Thai แม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา) is a major river in Thailand, with its low alluvial river plain marking the mainland of the country. It runs through Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. The Chao Phraya begins at the confluence of the Ping and Nan river at Nakhon Sawan (also called Pak Nam Pho) in the Nakhon Sawan province. It then flows from north to south for 372 kilometres (231 mi) from the central plains to Bangkok and the Gulf of Thailand. In Chainat, the river splits into the main river course and the Tha Chin river, which then flows parallel to the main river and exits to the Gulf of Thailand about 35 kilometres (22 mi) west of Bangkok in Samut Sakhon. In the low alluvial plain which begins below the Chainat dam, many small canals (khlong) split off from the main river. The khlongs are used for the irrigation of the region's rice paddies. The cities along the Chao Phraya are Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Singburi, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Bangkok and Samut Prakan, listed from north to south. These cities are among the most historically significant and densely populated settlements of Thailand precisely because of their ...

Cruising down the Chao Phraya River by boat trip and ferry ride - Bangkok, Thailand
Taking a boat trip or ferry ride along Chao Phraya River is one of the best ways to explore Bangkok. It's extremely cheap to hop on board with locals (which often include orange robbed monks) cruising down the river with wonderful views of the Bangkok, Thailand. nomadicsamuel.com Boats are a great way to get around the famous riverside area with its many historical attractions, and to explore the 'klongs' (canals) for a glimpse of yesteryear Bangkok. Several kinds of boats (express boats, river taxis and tail-boats) run up and down the Chao Phraya River, connecting with the local suburbs on the Thonburi side and along the river, while ferries can be used to cross the river at various points. There are different types of boats offering different services, and some of the express boats only stop at the main piers. If you simply want to cross the river, there are ferries which cost 2.5 baht, available at several boat landings. River taxis operate up and down the river and cost from around 6 baht, depending on the length of the journey. The Chao Phraya Express Boat Company offers a day pass for 75 baht with departures every 30 minutes from Sathorn Pier. It stops at ten major piers and provides access to attractions like Wat Arun (the Temple of Dawn) the Grand Palace, Wat Po and the Royal Barge Museum. Great value, considering that it includes a guide and drinking water! The Sathorn Pier can easily be reached by traveling with the Skytrain (BTS) to Saphan Taksin station: www ...

Chao Phraya River (แม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา) A PILGRAM'S QUEST By EMIL WEST
To travel down the Chao Phraya River (แม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา) In ancient times, was a spiritual journey of simple a piligram's quest all the way down the life of this river ending upon your arrival at the vastness of the open sea. Join Emil West in such an ancient pilgram's quest...thru Emil's painting, you will experience the Chao Phraya of 10000 BCE. The River of Kings is truly a magnificent waterway, one of the great rivers of Asia. For Thailand, it's the nation's life and soul. The river has been a principal factor in the development of Thai heritage, culture, and economics. It has molded the nation into what it is today and provides essential nourishment for Thailand's rich agriculture. Finally, the river has served as a highway for commerce, linked the nation's cities, and served as a protective barrier against its rivals.

Loi Krathong - Chao Phraya River to Wat Arun, Bangkok, November 2009
One of the key Thai festivals on the annual calendar, Loi Krathong, took place on Monday evening, Bangkok's populace heading in droves for the water to light candles nestling on small "rafts" (Krathong) that are then gently lowered into the river, wishes are made, the hopes and dreams of city dwellers, along with any bad luck, consigned with a flourish for safekeeping to the dark swirling waters of the Chao Phraya River which winds like a giant, lazy snake through the heart of Bangkok. I start tonights adventure at the southern end of the city where the BTS line crosses the river, and I get a quick idea what is in store when I try to squeeze onto the Skytrain at Siam, which is packed to the rafters, not the norm for the post rush hour. Alighting from the spur line at Saphan Taksin Station where the BTS disgorges passengers before skimming over the Chao Phraya on the Taksin Bridge, I am immediately and, but less unexpectedly by now, thrust into a huge scrum of people. I was expecting it to be busy here as this one of the key transport hubs where the BTS meets the river, but its really, really busy. Getting down to the Sathorn Pier it is a case of filing slowly along past stall after stall of Krathong makers selling their wares, people behind the tables busily crafting these intricate arrangements, as buyers flock around, with the skill and dexterity of a lifetime of experience. The Krathongs themselves are mostly around ten inches across with a base tightly fashioned out ...

Chao Phraya River 1950's - Bangkok Thailand - 8mm in HD - Restored Sound
The Chao Phraya River. Another vintage footage find. This was shot in the late 50's by an English tourist traveling alone. I'm not sure where the tour starts but it clearly finishes at Wat Intharawihan - home of the GIANT Buddha. Again the audio is a re-creation based on a modern longboat trip up the Chao Phraya. Rice barges and other working boats can be seen throughout. I'm still really digging these restorations. I get a bit of nerd-satisfaction in the idea that footage long lost is coming to light. If you enjoyed this video - we have the same river tour shot in the early 70's available here: youtu.be For a modern look check out the video response from kkfung1 below. Same stretches of river. Thanks kkfung1!
