NATIVE POLLINATORS
Several years ago, people both in the US and in Europe and in other places in the world noticed that honeybee colonies were not doing that well. Bees were dying and disappearing and it was affecting the people who keep bees for businesses and it started to threaten the pollination of crops which we all depend on for our fruits and vegetables. This phenomenon was described as colony-collapse disorder, or CCD. Because of increased demand and decreased supply, the cost of honeybee hives rose dramatically. In PA growers were used to paying thirty-five dollars per colony and that price has now gone up to over one hundred dollars per colony. And there are many, many research projects going on around the world trying to discover the cause of CCD.

Pollination of flowers From KidRhymes
KidRhymes - A flower, sometimes known as a bloom or blossom, is the reproductive structure found in flowering plants (plants of the division Magnoliophyta, also called angiosperms). The biological function of a flower is to mediate the union of male sperm with female ovum in order to produce seeds. The process begins with pollination, is followed by fertilization, leading to the formation and dispersal of the seeds. *source wikipedia

Flower Pollination
Like all living things, plants reproduce to ensure future generations. But since plants can't move from place to place, they need a way to transfer pollen from one plant to another. Wind is a major pollinator, but it acts unselectively. Insects, on the other hand, pollinate flowers with precision. The bright colors and strong fragrances of flowers attract insects. Once lured to the flowers, insects discover pollen and nectar. Bees, butterflies and other insects gather pollen and nectar to feed themselves and their young. As insects move from plant to plant, they transfer pollen from one flower to the next. Fertilization occurs and seeds are formed. Over time, flowers have developed colors, smells and shapes, that successfully entice insects. At the same time, insects have developed features and behavior that make them more effective pollinators. mdc.mo.gov

Buzz Pollination For Indoor Gardens And Hydroponics
www.tomorrowsgarden.net You guys gotta try this way of pollination. It's fast and does a great job giving you maximum pollination. It only works with self pollinating plants such as tomatoes or peppers. I'll probably use the method on my outdoor tomatoes as well to get them producing faster. Pollinator Hedgerows: There's a Plan for That
Fred Stolp in Butte County hosts the video crew at his walnut orchard where his pollinator hedgerow is providing plants suited to answer the needs of pollinators year round. Stolp also enjoys the aesthetics of the hedgerow. Soil Conservationist Rachael Morgan discusses the role of pollinators in California agriculture and how native pollinators can help augment this need, especially in the face of challenges faced by the domestic honeybees. Good conservation planning between the landowner and NRCS can help address practical challenges to the establishment of a hedgerow, such as weed control and irrigation.

Real Scenes: Bristol
The eyes of the world have turned to the UK in recent years and have found some of the most exciting, genre-defying young artists to emerge from electronic music. But while London's scene can be fractious and hard to pin down, there seems to be something in the air in Bristol that unites its participants. Whether they're creating dubstep, house, techno or something else entirely, the cross-pollination in Bristol is unique. In RA's first official entry into video, we journey to Bristol to explore how the city has flourished in recent years, discovering why this small metropolis is one of the most influential electronic music outposts in the world today.
