Thracians - One Beautiful Mystery
My nickname is a thracian name, the song inte clip are national bulgarian rhodope snong.Thracian tombs can be found dating back to 3000 BC.By the 5th century BC, the Thracian presence was pervasive enough to have made Herodotus call them the second-most numerous people in the part of the world known by him (after the Indians),and potentially the most powerful. The Thracians in classical times were broken up into a large number of groups and tribes, though a number of powerful Thracian states were organized, such as the Odrysian kingdom of Thrace and the Dacian kingdom of Burebista. A type of soldier of this period called the Peltast probably originated in Thrace. The archaeological research of the Thracian culture started in the 20th century and especially after World War II, mainly on the territory of Southern Bulgaria. As a result of intensive excavation works in the 1960s and 1970s a number of Thracian tombs and sanctuaries were discovered. More significant among them are: the Tomb of Sveshtari, the Tomb of Kazanlak, Tatul, Seuthopolis, Perperikon, the Tomb of Aleksandrovo, Sarmizegetusa. On August 19, 2005, some Bulgarian archaeologists announced they had found the first Thracian capital, which was situated near Karlovo in Bulgaria. In November 2008, Archaeologists unearthed a well-preserved 1,800-year-old lavishly ornamented four-wheel bronze chariot at an ancient Thracian tomb near the south-eastern village of Karanovo in Bulgaria. In Dabene, Bulgaria, a cache of more than 15,000 gold Thracian artifacts were discovered, including thousands of rings. In August 2006 a sensational archaeological find was made near the village of Dubovo. A Thracian dagger made of an alloy of gold and platinum, sharp, and in perfect condition, was found in a tomb near the village of Dubovo.A settlement, most probably related to Perperikion, was located close to the village of Dragoynovo near Iskra. This religious complex is one of the many sacred places, established by the Thracians on high mountain peaks. The Iliad records that the Thracians from around the Hellespont and also the Thracian Cicones fought on the side of the Trojans. The Odyssey records that Odysseus and his men raided Thrace on their way back home from war. Many mythical figures, such as the god Dionysus, princess Europa and the hero Orpheus were borrowed by the Greeks from their Thracian neighbours. In book 7 of his Histories, Herodotus describes the equipment of the Thracians fighting :
"The Thracians went to the war wearing the skins of foxes upon their heads, and about their bodies tunics, over which was thrown a long cloak of many colours. Their legs and feet were clad in buskins made from the skins of fawns; and they had for arms javelins, with light targes, and short dirks.

Thrace: Your Orpheus
The song is ΣΑΒΒΑΤΟ ΒΡΑΔΥ ΜΕ ΔΙΩΞΑΝ ΟΙ ΓΟΝΕΙΣ ΜΟΥ - Savato vradi me dioksan oi goneis mou (on saturday evening, my parents threw me out). The singer is Spyros koukos.
Thrace (Θράκη) is an ancient region inhabited by the Ancient people called Thracians. According to Herodotus, Thracians were the second largest population in the known world after India. Homer describes a great deal of their sophistication as he narrates how the Thracians fought on the Trojan side.
Thrace is now divided into three, shared between Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey.
What is the purpose of love? The story of Orpheus (Ὀρφεύς) and Eurydike (Εὐρυδίκη) is about lost love. Though Orpheus was Thracian, the interaction between the Thracians and the Ancient Greeks lead to some of the most creative myths. Thracians eventually were assimilated into Hellenic and Slavic culture. Their dances and their music are filled with joy and happiness.
The translation of song is from The Guardians of Hellenism VOL.6 (Thrace, Eastern Roumelia, Black Sea).
On Saturday night my parents threw me out:
'Akritic song of Northern Thrace, widely sung in all Northern Greece.
Singer: Spyros Koukos and choir.
On Saturday night my parents threw me out:
On Saturday night my parents threw me out,
Out of our home, daughter of Yiareni,
Away from our home and my sweet brothers.
I set off down a road, daughter of Yiareni,
I set off down a road, from road to path,
I see a tree, daughter of Yiareni,
I see a tree, a cypress of the plain.
'O Tree! Show me daughter of Yiareni,
O Tree, show me a village I can stay.'
'Here are my roots, daughter of Yiareni,
Here are my roots to tie your horse,
Here are my boughs, daughter of Yiareni,
Here are my boughs to hang your arms,
And here's my shade for you to rest.
Rise at dawn, daughter of Yiareni,
Rise at dawn and pay me rent,
Two pitchers of water pour at my roots,
Or a thousand the horse and a thousand your arms,
And for you the bill is incalculable,
The bill is incalculable and all in pearls.'
Shudder O Sun, and sea grow rough,
Even teh tree demans rent of him.

Ancient Thracian Treasure Discovered in Bulgaria Tomb
Bulgarian archaeologists unearth ancient golden artefacts, including bracelets with snake heads, a tiara with animal motifs and a horse head piece during excavation works at a Thracian tomb in northern Bulgaria.
Bulgarian archaeologists working at a Thracian tomb in northern Bulgaria unearth ancient golden artefacts.
Their findings include bracelets with snake heads, a tiara with animal motifs and a horse head piece dating back to the end of the fourth or the beginning of the third century BC.
They were discovered in the biggest of 150 ancient tombs of a Thracian tribe, the Getae, that was in contact with the Hellenistic world.
A golden ring, 44 female figurines, as well as 100 golden buttons were included among the artefacts.
Diana Gergovia is a researcher of Thracian culture and works with the Sofia-based National Archaeology Institute.
[Diana Gergova, Archeological Team Head]: (Bulgarian, Female)
"These are completely new patterns in the Thracian art, that we have now discovered. We did not expect such an enormous surprise, when we found a wooden box with burned bones and amazing golden artefacts, incredible treasure, high up on the excavation wall."
One of the tombs, known as the Tomb of Sveshtari, is included in the World Heritage List of UNESCO, for its unique architectural decor, with half-human, half-plant female figures and painted murals.
The Thracians inhabited an area extending over modern Romania and Bulgaria, northern Greece and the European part of Turkey from as early as 4,000 BC.
They were ruled by a powerful warrior aristocracy rich in gold treasures.
Living on the fringes of the Greek and Roman civilizations, the Thracians often interminged and clashed with the more advanced cultures.
They were eventually absorbed into the Roman Empire around 45 AD.

The Thracians,Dacia,Macedonia and Illyria
The origin of the Albanians the Illirians,Thracians,Macedonians Epirus and Dacia
Most of historians conclude that they are descendants of populations of the prehistoric Balkans, such as the Illyrians, Dacians or Thracians.Thraco-Illyrian and Daco-Thracian contact zones even in antiquity
Those scholars who maintain the Illyrian origin of Albanians maintain that the indigenous Illyrian tribes dwelling in South Illyria went up in mountains when Slavs occupied the lowlands.[9][10] while another version of this hypothesis maintains that the Albanians are the descendants of Illyrian tribes located between Dalmatia and Danube, which spilled south.[11]
The scholars who support a Dacian origin of Albanians maintain that between third and sixth centuries AD Albanians moved from Carpathians area to south,[12] while those scholars who maintain a Thracian origin hypothesize that the proto-Albanians are to be located in Thracian territory in the area between Nis, Skopje and Sofia and Albania[13] or from the Rhodope and Balkan mountains, where they moved to Albania before the arrival of the Slavs.[14]

Traditional Costumes of Thrace
The song is ΜΙΑ ΚΟΡΗ ΜΙΑ ΔΙΑΒΑΤΙΣΣΑ - 'Mia Kori mia diavatissa' - ('A Lass is Passing by'), taken from Guardians of Hellenism VOL 6 THRACE. The singer is famous Thracian Chronis Aidonidis (Χρόνης Αηδονίδης).
The areas of Thrace (Θράκη) shown in the video are: Xanthi (Ξάνθη), Rhodope (Ροδόπη) and Evros (Έβρου), which are in Greece. Kavakli is in Northern Thrace, which is in present day Bulgaria, and Makra Gefyra is in Eastern Thrace, which is in present day Turkey.
In Rhodopi, showcased are the Sarakatsani (Σαρακατσάνοι), the ancient shepherd tribe that has scattered all over Greece.
More on the song:
A Karsilamas from Western Thrace. The subject is common to many songs and is about the recognition of the woman by the husband.
Translation:
A lass, aman aman, a lass was passing by
A lass was passing by, a blue-eyed one,
When she goes in to weave, the trees and branches wither,
A passer by went by, the lass he greeted.
He greets her, she replies not, says not good day,
My lass, aman aman, my lass why don't you marry,
My lass why don't you marry and enjoy your youth,
And take a lad like a star, like the moon.
How can, aman aman, how can you tell me marry,
How can you tell me marry, when I have a husband,
A soldier, who has been gone, alas, these four years.
In Evros, the municipalities covered are: Alexandroupoli (Αλεξανδρούπολη) , Didymoteicho (Διδυμότειχο), Metaxades (Μεταξάδες), Soufli (Σουφλί) and Vyssa (Βύσσα).
