Northern Kurdistan - Xalfetî (Urîma, Shîtamrat) - Urva (Ur u Ava)
Halfeti (Ottoman: Rumkale, Kurdish: Xalfetî, Xal û Feti ancient name of Kurdish: Urîma, Shîtamrat) is a district of Şanlıurfa Province in the northern part of Kurdistan. Xalfeti located on the banks of the Euphrates. It is located 120 km west of the provincial capital Urva (Ur û Ava). In the district there are countless caves Xalfeti and historic Kurdish Kurmanjî (Ezidi) buildings, many of which have lapsed.
It is believed that Urfa (Ur û Ava, Urva) is identical to the Hurrian Urschu which is around 2000 v. Chr. In Sumerian, Akkadian and later mentioned in Hittite-Luwîan cuneiform texts. 1370 Urschu was conquered by the Hittites under Suppiluliuma I.. After the end of the Hittite Empire Urschu belonged to Carchemish.
Buk û Zava (Kurdish bride and groom) is a still unexplored cave system near the Kurdish village Sırataşlar. The cave system has nine floors and is about 40 meters high. The cave has multiple operations, the purpose and the age of the system are unknown.
Other attractions include:
* Church of Nuhrut (Bizans-Kurdish Church)
* The Bizansische church in the village Cibin (now part of the village mosque)
* Zaretê Karababa (tomb Karababas, Ezidische tomb)
* Dare Zaretê (four large, ancient oak trees on a lonely hill)

The powerfull Hittite Empire
The Hittites were a Bronze Age Indo-European speaking people of Anatolia. They established a kingdom centered at Hattusa in north-central Anatolia around the 18th century BC. The Hittite empire reached its height around the 14th century BC, encompassing a large part of Anatolia, north-western Syria about as far south as the mouth of the Litani River (in present-day Lebanon), and eastward into upper Mesopotamia. The Hittite military made successful use of chariots.[1] By the mid-14th century BC (under king Suppiluliuma I), they had carved out an empire that included most of Asia Minor as well as parts of the northern Levant and Upper Mesopotamia. After c. 1180 BC, the empire disintegrated into several independent "Neo-Hittite" city-states, some surviving until the 8th century BC.
Their Hittite language was a member of the Anatolian branch of the Indo-European language family.[2] Natively, they referred to their land as Hatti, and to their language as Nesili (the language of Nesa). The conventional name "Hittites" is due to their initial identification with the Biblical Hittites in 19th century archaeology. Despite the use of "Hatti", the Hittites should be distinguished from the Hattians, an earlier people who inhabited the same region until the beginning of the 2nd millennium BC, and spoke a non-Indo-European language known as Hattic.
Although belonging to the Bronze Age, the Hittites were forerunners of the Iron Age, developing the manufacture of iron artifacts from as early as the 14th century BC, when letters to foreign rulers reveal the latter's demand for iron goods.

And they took samples from the mummy of Merneptah. The illegal thing that happened was that the professor who did the study took the hair samples and put it at his home and this is how his son began to sell this hair to the public. We have to thank the French government by cooperating with us, and we have to say that this is maybe very important pieces to return."

STORY LINE
Locks of 3,200-year-old hair from the pharaoh Ramses II were unveiled at the Egyptian Museum on Tuesday, returned to Egypt after being stolen 30 years ago in France, and put up for sale on the Internet.
The hair samples were displayed alongside pieces of linen bandages and 11 pieces of resin used in the mummification of Ramses and his son Merneptah.
Photographers crowded round the display case as Egypt's culture minister and antiquities chief showed off the returned items.
The unveiling of the recovered materials was attended by Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouk Hosny and Zahi Hawass, Head of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities.
The theft of the items was discovered when the pieces of hair were put up for sale on a Web site last November, allegedly by a French postman, Jean-Michel Diebolt, who gave the hair a price tag of 2000 euros (2,600 US dollars).
Diebolt is the son of a French researcher who examined the 3,200-year-old mummy when it was brought to France in 1976 for treatment to stop the spread of a rare fungus. Diebolt is being investigated in France for allegedly possessing stolen goods.
Hawass told reporters that while the samples were legally taken from Egypt, Diebolt's father kept the samples at his home, which is how they came to be in his son's possession.
"The illegal thing that happened was that the professor who did the study took the hair samples and put it at his home and this is how his son began to sell this hair to the public," he said.
Egyptian antiquities officials travelled to Paris early last week to retrieve the stolen items.
Hawass thanked the French government for its co-operation said the retrieval of the items was made possible by the strong diplomatic relations between Egypt and France.
Hawass, has pressed several countries for the return of Egyptian antiquities and has sought, without success, the return of such finds as the Rosetta Stone at the British Museum, the bust of Nefertiti at Berlin's Egyptian Museum and a pharaonic mask at the St. Louis Art Museum.

STORYLINE
A giant statue of Pharaoh Ramses II will be moved early on Friday morning from a congested square in the centre of Cairo to a more serene home near the Great Pyramids.
Egypt's antiquities chief Zahi Hawass said it was to save it from corrosive pollution.
Exhaust fumes from trains, cars and buses, as well as vibrations from underground trains, have been damaging the more than 3,200-year-old granite statue at Ramses Square, its home since the early 1950s, when it was taken from a temple at the site of the ancient Egyptian capital of Memphis.
The 125-ton statue, a popular feature on postcards and guide books, will become part of a new museum about a mile from the pyramids.
Officials have discussed moving the statue for more than a decade as experts bickered over where it should go. The location at the Grand Museum of Egypt was recently agreed upon and engineers began researching how to move it.
A steel cage has been constructed around the statue and connected to steel beams.
Two flatbed trucks will carry it through the city overnight to avoid traffic. The eight-mile trip will take several hours.
"We found out that the best is to transport it is in the vertical position as it stands stable," Ahmad Hussein, chief engineer of Arab Contractors, the company moving the statue, said.
"It was suffering from some vibrations from the underground and the heavy traffic around, so we found during the rehearsal that the vibrations on the mock statue have been less because of the damping effect of the tyres."
The statue will be renovated as its new home is built. The museum, which also will house King Tutankhamun's mummy and other treasures, is not expected to open for at least five years.
Ramses II was a warrior king who is credited with bringing Egypt unprecedented power and splendour during his 67-year reign. He died in 1225 B.C.
