Crazy Guangdong driver destroys everything to escape police
In Meizhou, Guangdong, a police officer tries to stop a car with an obscured license plate on a busy road during rush hour. The driver, however, attempts to escape with little regard for others' lives or property - wreaking havoc on the surroundings before eventually being forcibly detained by a crowd of police and astonished passersby.
Another year, another crazy driver.

Chinese Police Attacks Citizens in Shangpu, Guangdong
In the dead of night, thousands of armed police attacked Shangpu village in Guangdong province. Residents here have been calling for democratic elections after Li Baoyu, the local village head, illegally sold 33 hectares of land.
[Shangpu Villager]:
"What can I say? Elderly people in their 70's were beaten up and are now in hospital. About 30 to 40 of them. Some of them are dying. No one is bringing justice for us. No matter who calls us, authorities tells us not to speak. 3,000 to 4,000 armed police came to beat us Shangpu villagers, but there has been no news on TV about it."
The Shangpu stand-off was similar to that of Wukan, also in Guangdong province. Residents there successfully drove out communist officials in 2011, earning an election for their own leaders.
But history did not repeat itself this time.
The police crackdown in Shangpu follows a new budget proposed at the National People's Congress in Beijing last week. Once again, China's army of police got more funding that the military. That's 124 billion dollars, almost ten billion more than the People's Liberation Army.
According to the Telegraph newspaper, one paramilitary policeman involved in attacking Shangpu wrote about it on his Sina Weibo microblog. "We have returned victorious, how exciting! Tossing stones, throwing flash grenades, stun grenades, tear gas, really exciting but very tiring too."
[Shangpu Villager]:
"Men didn't dare to go out. They asked old people and women to go out. But the armed police dispatched by local authority still beat them...Everybody here is sighing and crying at home. No one is able to go out to work."
Land grabs by local officials has become commonplace in China. The Chinese regime technically owns all the land, and local governments have relied substantially on real estate sales as a source of revenue.
In Shangpu, village head Li Baoyu is now under arrest. But residents are doubtful about a promise by authorities in Jieyang city that they will scrap the land deals Li approved.

On March 10th, Jiexi local authority in Guangdong Province
dispatched a huge number of armed police.
They suppressed protesters who have had an ongoing
confrontation with police for several weeks due to land disputes.
Molihua.org reported that at 2 am on the 10th, thousands of
armed police with hundreds of police cars and
cranes rushed into Shangpu village to clean out
broken vehicles and road blocks set up by villagers.
They also cut off the electricity, the Internet, and no
communication reached outside the village.
This action aroused strong resistance from the villagers.
The police used tear gas, high explosive plastic,
and smoke grenades to suppress villagers.
The villagers used wood sticks, shovels, and stones
to retaliate. The fight lasted for three hours.
Later on the 10th, Guangdong authority released details that
police arrested eight people including Shangpu Village managers.
Since February 22nd, Shangpu villagers started a protest on
the village square at village officials selling 500 acres of land.
On February 24th, village officials hired triad members to
suppress the villagers. About 30 cars were destroyed.
Tibetans Worldwide Parade For 54th Anniversary
Of Tibetan Uprising ----
March 10th is the 54th anniversary of the Chinese Communist
Party (CCP) marching on Tibet and the Dalai Lama leading 100,000 Tibetans to exile in India.
Exiled Tibetans all over the world hosted
commemoration parades and rallies.
Hundreds of Tibetans gathered for a commemoration rally
in Dharamsala, India.
This is where the Tibetan Government remains in Exile.
Police stopped a man from self-immolating.
Lobsang Sangay, the Sikyong of the Tibetan Government
in Exile, spoke on the rally.
He called on Tibetans not to use self-immolation to protest.
He also requested the CCP to respect Tibetan people't
willingness, and to change its current hard-line policy.
The same day, Tibetans in New Delhi and Taiwan also held
a protest and parade against the CCP't ruling in Tibet.
However, there were 11 people arrested in Nepal and
charged with participating in "illegal anti-China activities."
VOA reported that around 20,000 Tibetans live in Nepal.
Beijing authority put a lot of pressure on Nepal
due to Tibetan in exile there.

A VLOG from my trip to Shenzhen, Guangdong, China
I made a trip to China in April 2012. This is my first experience with going to "Greater China." I had previously visited Hong Kong years ago, before control of it reverted to China. I found the people of Shenzhen welcoming and I enjoyed my visit. The purpose of my visit was for work. The result of my trip is that I now have a few more friends :)

Rare Public Protest over Censorship in Guangdong
The censorship row over a New Years article has set off China's first major protest for 2013.
Guangdong-based Southern Weekly is used to the editorial knife of propaganda officials. But this time the propaganda chief went too far and the fight for free press has gone unusually public.
On Monday, dozens of supporters for Southern Weekly rallied outside the headquarters of the Southern Media Group. Most here are young students. Their message: protect media freedom.
[Supporter of Southern Weekly]:
"If today, we don't speak up when Southern Weekly gets into trouble, no one would speak for us if something bad happens to one of us here in the next second. We share a common fate. We should be proud of every person or media that bravely steps forward despite the danger."
The free speech debate began over this New Years editorial. Editors at Southern Weekly originally wrote about the need for the Chinese regime to follow the constitution. But the version that went to print turned into a tribute to the Communist Party.
This man, Tuo Zhen, the propaganda chief of Guangdong, changed the article without the knowledge of Southern Weekly.
[Supporter of Southern Weekly]
"Maybe many reporters have been unable to sleep since their articles were edited. What we have to do now is to support them."
The demonstration is a test for China's new leadership. Local police allowed the protest to happen—a sign that authorities are careful to contain the rising public anger over censorship.
Aside from Monday's protest, the debate has run high on Chinese Internet. Several open letters are circulating online, calling on Tuo Zhen to step down.
There are also hints officials are trying to muffle Southern Weekly. On Sunday, a message on its official Weibo account denied the original article was censored. That post drew criticisms from Chinese citizens.
Several of Southern Weekly's reporters have also distanced themselves from the post, saying they are planning to strike.
