Poor Whites - South Africa
June 2006 Since the end of apartheid, thousands of white South Africans have been forced into poverty. They blame the government's positive discrimination policies, which favour black employees. Twelve years ago, Afrikaners like Betsie Dreyer lived a privileged and cocooned life. Now, many are dependent on charity handouts. "We are fighting all the time to survive." The government is determined to see the workforce appropriately reflect the population. It gives black people priority in employment, sets 'black quotas' for businesses and favours companies owned by black people. But critics accuse the government of neglecting its responsibility to white citizens. As union rep Kallie Kriel states: "It's ironic that a government that fought racial laws is now doing exactly the same thing." Produced by ABC Australia Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

Vigilante Justice - South Africa
May 1999 In this report South Africa's growing vigilante crisis is thrown into sharp relief when the rape of a black girl is publicly avenged Some of her attackers live in her street and she now fears for her life. Frustrated that the police will do little to help she approaches the local taxi firm to help her get revenge. "Will you be satisfied and stop crying once we've beaten them?" the firm ask her. At 4am the girl points out her township tormentors to willing vigilantes. They strip the culprits naked, strap them to a lamp post and lash them. The girl herself gives the first stroke. The legacy of apartheid leads South Africans to such violence, when even the police disregarded their own laws. The mob ruled when it black against white. This past has depersonalised and dehumanised. The police stand accused of apathy but often they are frustrated by clever criminals. But unless the police earn people's trust, vigilantism may become the norm.

(ENG) Genocide with farm killings in South-Africa: a shocking testimony
(ENG) This is a 10 minutes extract from the stunning documentary 'War of the Flea' from director Rian van der Walt published in 2011. It contains shocking information on the genocide that is being carried out under ANC-rule in the 'new' South-Africa against the white minority of the 'Afrikaners' by farm killings or 'plaasmoorde'. It was shown at an international conference in the European Parliament in februari 2012, in the presence of farmers' spokesman Henk Van de Graaf and hosted by Philip Claeys, member of the European Parliament for the Vlaams Belang-party. The full movie is 93minutes. Did you see it already on your TV-screen? We neighter. Compare this to the worldwide hysteria in the time of 'apartheid' and draw your own conclusions... (Note: 'war of the flea' means 'guerilla warfare').

Child Prostitution - South Africa
Dec 1998 Child prostitution is rife in South Africa. It's a means of survival for impoverished township kids. Standing at the side of the road two young girls pass time playing like children, until their pimp tells them to shut-up. Their friend 14 year-old Lindy, lifts her top to let a potential client inspect her wares. "They like to suck them because I'm young" she says. Following a girl on a job we confront her white client. His flies undone, he denies he knew how old she was and demands his money back. A passer-by comes to help him out. "He was just following a call of nature," he says. Nobody knows how many children are working the streets. They stay here because of poverty, because there is no home to go back to and prostitution is all they can do to survive. Local police have given-up chasing the clients; "If you catch these people they won't give evidence [against clients] because tomorrow they will be back on the street." Instead social workers try to take the children into homes. The numbers they can help though is small, and most turn back to prostitution.

Spitting Image: I've never met a nice South African
Side "B" of "The Chicken Song." In the closing verse, the South African chorus names writer and anti-apartheid activist Breyten Breytenbach, exceptionally, as "quite a nice South African" and say "that's why we threw him in prison". At the time Breytenbach had, as the song points out, been living in exile in Paris and had been previously imprisoned by the South African regime due to his mixed marriage.

THePETEBOX vs Honda - South Africa Brand Advert Beatbox 2012
I was commissioned to write a bespoke piece of music for Honda South Africa to an animation by Ned Wenlock for an advert last year. Here's the result! It's all vocal, multitracked recorded and mixed in Logic. Here's what Honda say about it: Honda South Africa wanted a TV Commercial that would give South Africans a feel for the spirit of the Honda brand -- something previously lacking in the market. DDB Johannesburg, together with animator Ned Wenlock of Hoverlion and musical web-sensation THePETEBOX, put this joyous little journey together. With an array of Honda products and a footloose and fancy-free character we see how Honda makes the journey itself, the ultimate destination. Whether it be over land or sea - or in the air. Scattered throughout the ad are snippets of Honda pedigree and history, such as their steady rise to dominance of the Isle of Man TT, their fellowship with legends like Ayrton Senna as well as imagery of Honda's iconic founder, Soichiro Honda. Several other 'Easter eggs' lay hidden in the execution and only become evident after many viewings. Not a few of these pay tribute to South Africa, birthplace of the commercial. www.thepetebox.com http

LUCKY DUBE - REMEMBER ME - ( SOUTH AFRICA )
Remember me, um dos grandes sucessos de Lucky Dube, com fotos de sua terra natal, África do Sul, um dos mais belos países do continente africano. Local onde a natureza ainda é respeitada, com a maioria de seus animais vivendo em seus habitats naturais. The Republic of South Africa (also referred to as South Africa, SA or RSA) is a state in southern Africa. Located at the southern tip of Africa, it is divided into nine provinces, with 2798 kilometres (1739 mi) of coastline on the Atlantic and Indian oceans. To the north of the country lie the neighbouring territories of Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe; to the east are Mozambique and Swaziland; while Lesotho is an enclave surrounded by South African territory. South Africa is multi-ethnic and has diverse cultures and languages. Eleven official languages are recognised in the constitution. Two of these languages are of European origin: Afrikaans, a language which originated mainly from Dutch that is spoken by the majority of white and Coloured South Africans, and South African English. Though English is commonly used in public and commercial life, it is only the fifth most-spoken home language. All ethnic and language groups have political representation in the country's constitutional democracy comprising a parliamentary republic; unlike most parliamentary republics, the positions of head of state and head of government are merged in a parliament-dependent President. About 79.5% of the South African population is of black ...

The Beauty of the Irrational
Human beings don’t always make rational decisions. But making irrational decisions is precisely what makes us human. These decisions, based on an impulse or a feeling, often lead us to those perfect moments when it feels great to be alive.
"The Beauty of the Irrational" follows Ryan Sandes, a South African Ultra-Runner, as he returns to the Fish River Canyon to run the 5 day, 84km, Fish River Canyon Hiking Trail in the fastest time possible.
He completed the run, self-supported, in amazing time of 6h57min!

OPTUS "Secret Training Camp"
Nothing like training with the big guys. 'Secret Training Camp', directed by Paranoid US's Thierry Poiraud, brings some serious wildlife to the playing field. The spot, via M&C; Saatchi, is a dramatic concept featuring the Australian national soccer team and African animals. Everyone on the shoot would agree, the production was a feature film. Period. Animals were shot in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, on location . From there the crew went to Australia to shoot the athletes in a studio, and finished with post at BUF in Paris, France. Post-production was a two month full-scale effort. With animals, a night time setting, a child actor and soccer celebrities, it was no easy feat to get the final result.
In a note of humor, Optus invited French director Thierry Poiraud to a Socceroos match, assuming that since he was European, he would be a huge football fan. However in reality it was his first experience in a soccer stadium!

White South African genocide
Why do we never hear about this? Why have a million white Africans, who has lived there for hundreds of year, fled South Africa? Why do you find thousands of Afrikaner doctors in American, European and Australian cities? Have you asked them why they fled South Africa? What will happen to the poor people who cannot emigrate?
