3D printing is a form of additive manufacturing technology where a three dimensional object is created by laying down successive layers of material. 3D printers are generally faster, more affordable and easier to use than other additive manufacturing technologies. 3D printers offer product developers the ability to print parts and assemblies made of several materials with different mechanical and physical properties in a single build process. Advanced 3D printing technologies yield models that can serve as product prototypes.
There has been large growth in the sale of 3D printers. Additionally, the cost of 3D printers has declined. The technology also finds use in the jewelry, footwear, industrial design, architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), automotive, aerospace, dental and medical industries, education, GIS, civil engineers, etc.

How To Screen Print T Shirts: The Process Explained
In this screen printing educational video you will learn how the process works from start to finish. It explains how you get the artwork or design to the screen using film positives so you can screenprint tee shirts. You will find out how the stencil is created on the mesh using a photographic emulsion and a UV light source. The video will teach you how the stencil works with the screen and mesh as well as how the ink makes the print. Then we talk about how the ink is cured so that it is safe to wash in the laundry. It touches on scoop coaters, emulsion, screens, film positives, curing plastisol inks and much more! This is an excellent video for people who know nothing about how screen printed garments are made. After watching this you will have a complete understanding of how the screenprinting method works and how tee shirts are printed commercially. Learn how to screen print tee shirts for fun or for profit!

Will 3D Printing Change the World? | Off Book | PBS
Much attention has been paid to 3D Printing lately, with new companies developing cheaper and more efficient consumer models that have wowed the tech community. They herald 3D Printing as a revolutionary and disruptive technology, but how will these printers truly affect our society? Beyond an initial novelty, 3D Printing could have a game-changing impact on consumer culture, copyright and patent law, and even the very concept of scarcity on which our economy is based. From at-home repairs to new businesses, from medical to ecological developments, 3D Printing has an undeniably wide range of possibilities which could profoundly change our world.

The 3D Gun Printing Revolution
Advancing technology is not bad or evil, but people must be prepared to use it responsibly and be aware of the potential dangers new technology will pose. When people know how to use technology and can master it, it can drastically improve their lives. But if people lose control of it, it can be dangerous.
Defense Distributed founder Cody Wilson's project to create a fully functional 3D printed gun recently showcased its development of a plastic, high-capacity magazine. Although there have been propositions to ban so-called high-capacity magazines, the design Defense Distributed posted on its website for such a 3D printable magazine has been downloaded more than 50,000 times within the last week, according to Wilson. With 3D printing technology, these are items that Wilson said essentially cannot be banned.

4D Printing Self-Building Space Stations!
Forget 3D, 4D is the future! The kinks are still being worked out, but this new technology could transform life here on Earth, and even outer space. Anthony tells us how.

"Next, 4-D Printers?"
http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/02/26/next-4-d-printers/?ref=business
"Now that the promise of 3-D printing has landed on the national agenda, researchers want to increase the stakes — with so-called 4-D printing."
"4D printing sees materials form themselves into anything"
http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2013-02/27/4d-printing
"There are 3D printers that build things up, adding one sliver of plastic at a time, and 3D mills that tear things down, grinding away one small chunk at a time. But Skylar Tibbits offer a very provocative alternative: technology for 3D printing where the chunks start separated and intelligently arrange themselves into basically any object."
"Skylar Tibbits: Can we make things that make themselves?"
http://www.ted.com/talks/skylar_tibbits_can_we_make_things_that_make_themselves.html
"MIT researcher Skylar Tibbits works on self-assembly -- the idea that instead of building something (a chair, a skyscraper), we can create materials that build themselves, much the way a strand of DNA zips itself together."

3D-Printed Guns - Would Gun Laws Even Matter?
"Twenty minutes into his State of the Union address last week, President Obama entered the realm of uber-geekery — three-dimensional printing. The magical devices capable of printing prosthetics, violins and even aircraft parts have the potential, the president said, "to revolutionize the way we make almost everything."*
3D printing technology is at the point where home-manufacturing guns is possible. The guns made aren't incredibly sturdy and "ready" just yet, and 3d-printers are still too expensive to be a mass-consumer item, but could this render gun laws useless? Will 3D-printed guns be regulated? Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.
