The Rainbow Connection (Paul Williams) by Claressa Monteiro @ Paragon (11 May 12) (HD)
Claressa Monteiro (vocals), Nick Lim (piano) and Razip (electric upright bass) performing "The Rainbow Connection" at Paragon Shopping Centre, Level 1, Orchard Road on the afternoon of 11th May 2012. "Rainbow Connection" is a song written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher and originally performed by the character of Kermit the Frog (Jim Henson) in The Muppet Movie in 1979. Kenneth Ascher and Paul Williams received Oscar nominations at the 52nd Academy Awards for the score of The Muppet Movie and for Rainbow Connection. The song was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1979, but lost the Oscar to "It Goes Like It Goes" from Norma Rae, a win that some critics decried. The song has been in every Muppet movie to date, sometimes just being hummed in the background. The original (Kermit the Frog's) version of "Rainbow Connection" reached #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1979; the song remained in the Top 40 for seven weeks total. Artists who have covered "Rainbow Connection" include Judy Collins, The Carpenters, Sarah McLachlan, DAT Politics, Aaron Lewis, Kenny Loggins, The Dixie Chicks, Justin Timberlake, Kris Aquino, Kiki and Herb, Jason Mraz, The Pussycat Dolls, Willie Nelson, Peter Cincotti and Jane Monheit. It Goes Like It Goes
My birthday was the other day and my husband's is about a week from today. I wanted to choose something that celebrated this and reflected on the passing of time. I was particularly motivated to do this this year, because late last year around the holidays, my husband and I each received a call the same week, informing us that our only living parent had been rushed to the hospital under extremely distressing circumstances. We have spent the last 8 months very mindful of their mortality and the part they played in our lives. This video is dedicated to my mom and my husband's dad. The song is the theme from Norma Rae and won the Academy Award of best song of 1979. It has rarely been covered since. And working on it, I can understand why. It is very difficult to sing for an untrained singer and up until 3 months ago, I hadn't really sung in 30 years, so please make allowances. I am also accompanying myself on the piano.
