Over The Hills And Far Away (Traditional)
This tune was published in Thomas D'Urfey's Pills to Purge Melancholy (Originally in 1706). It appeared in The Recruiting Officer, a comedy by George Farquhar and in John Gay's The Beggar's Opera (1728). The lyrics refer to the War of the Spanish Succession (1701--1714), the Duke of Marlborough, and Queen Anne of England (1665 --1714). The painting: "British Soldier 1702" , is mine. You can see it here in my gallery: orloprat.deviantart.com

British Battle Victories over the Spanish Part 8: Spanish Succession War
The war that made Britain the dominant power of the world & laid even more foundations for the future of the empire. Not only was land gained from France but...from Spain the results were even more impressive! Britain was given Menorca & Gibraltar & even offered the Spanish Netherlands which Marlborough overran in 1706. The two islands were enough giving Britain control of their own lake the Mediterranean

Caldara - Crucifixus a 16 voci
ANTONIO CALDARA (c.1670 - 1736) "Crucifixus" for 16 voices Performed by the Balthasar-Neumann-Chor and Ensemble Directed by Thomas Hengelbrock *Antonio Caldara was an Italian Baroque composer. Caldara was born in Venice (exact date unknown), the son of a violinist. He became a chorister at St Mark's in Venice, where he learned several instruments, probably under the instruction of Giovanni Legrenzi. In 1699 he relocated to Mantua, where he became maestro di cappella to the inept Charles IV, Duke of Mantua, a pensionary of France with a French wife, who took the French side in the War of the Spanish Succession. Caldara removed from Mantua in 1707, after the French were expelled from Italy, then moved on to Barcelona as chamber composer to Charles VI of Austria, the pretender to the Spanish throne who kept a royal court at Barcelona. There, he wrote some operas that are the first Italian operas performed at Spain. He moved on to Rome, becoming maestro di cappella to Francesco Maria Marescotti Ruspoli, 1st Prince of Cerveteri. While there he wrote "La constanza in amor vince l'inganno" (Faithfulness in Love Defeats Treachery) for the public theatre at Macerata. In 1716, he obtained a similar post in Vienna to serve the Imperial Court, and there he remained until his death. Caldara is best known as a composer of operas, cantatas and oratorios. Several of his works have libretti by Metastasio.

Gibraltar - city visit
Gibraltar 17.07.2010 Camcorder Sony Handycam HDR-XR200 Gibraltar is a British overseas territory located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance of the Mediterranean, overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. The territory itself is a peninsula of 6.843 square kilometres (2.642 sq mi) whose isthmus connects to the north with Spain. The Rock of Gibraltar is the major landmark of the area and gives its name to the densely populated town, home to almost 30000 Gibraltarians. Gibraltar was captured by a joint Anglo-Dutch force in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession and subsequently ceded to Britain by Spain under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. It became an important base for the British Royal Navy, which drove the local economy and provided employment for a large portion of the local population. Nowadays, the economy is largely based on tourism, financial services and shipping. The sovereignty of Gibraltar is a major point of contention in Anglo-Spanish relations as Spain asserts a claim to the territory and seeks its return. Gibraltarians resoundingly rejected proposals for Spanish sovereignty in referendums held in 1967 and 2002.
